I think it's a great card. Cheap, instant, and effective. My only concern is that it's a rare. I feel that staple cards (dealing damage, countering spells, destroying permanents, gaining life, etc) shouldn't in most cases be rare. And yes, that means I believe Absorb should have been uncommon (although perhaps it should have costed in that case). Anyway, I think Hero's Demise is pretty good. Reminds me of Time of Need in a way.
For the second card, I'm going to let YOU tell ME what it does. I'll give you one thing, and you can figure out the rest. The name is "Aura Barbs", but that's all I will say. Each time someone guesses part of the card correctly, I'll update you with a post, filling in another part. My two requests is that each guess have:
a) Commentary on Hero's Demise, and
b) The reason why you're guessing as you're guessing. For example, "It sounds like an Artifact because 'barbs' are sharp pointy things".
Aura Barbs - cost?
Type? (rarity?) Card text?
I'm sure it won't take long to figure out, but I think it's a fun way to figure out a new card while we're waiting for more rumors
(side note: did you know there's an :elf: smilie now?)
EDIT: Skip down to page 5 for the final answer! :smile2:
Hero's demise would be killer in Limited but unfortunately it is rare. I like the card though...in Type 2 it will definitely change the power curve for black. :elf:

"Talkin outta turn....That's a paddlin'. Starin' at my sandals....That's a paddlin'. Paddlin' the school canoe....You better believe that's a paddlin'!" --Jasper
Wow, Hero's Demise is a pretty big waste of a rare slot in my opinion. It's a lot less useful than most other removal which is usually uncommon. Then again it is wizards. It mitght not be horrible in draft, but I don't think it'll see much play anywhere unless some legend deck shows up.
very disapointed that its rare.....
sure there are plenty of good legends...but we have plenty of common or uncommon removal that can do the same thing, and some just as cheap.
eg. terror....so uc ant destroy black. who wants to kill a kokusho anywayz.
as for aura bards....im guessing its white. simply because of the word aura...
in mosy cases any aura-card is either an enchantment, enchantment related, or enchantment destrucion.
this card in particular sounds like an enchantment name. so i guess an enchantment....maybe something like
"whenever an enchantment comes into play, aura bard deals 2 damage to that spells controller"
not a very good guess, but its a guess nonetheless.
*Realizes that we will have to guess the second card*
... You just had to go and make this hard, eh?...
a) Hero's Demise should not be a rare. I don't care how good of removal it is, it should not be a rare... Oh well...
b) I'm going be guess that it's a cheap white instant/sorcery... Why? Aura blast just sounds like something white would do and I know that with that name it is not a creature or an enchantment.
Heros demise should have been uncommon, in a limited setting it is important to balance bomb legends by having solutions that are at least not impossible to get in draft. That is the only issue i have with it, its simple its clean...it reminds me of oxidise.
Aura Barbs 2R
Enchantment (R)
During each opponents turn that opponent sacrifices an enchantment unless they sacrifice a land
well we might as well get started with this guessing...the game text was on the spot, i am more confident with cost and type
the name reminds me of Mana Barbs so the CC and type are just nostalgic really
I wholeheartedly the card is justified as an uncommon. The cards just not powerful enough to justifiy the rare status. I could possibly run It but really what legends that needed to be destroyed can not be by many of the other kill effects?
As for aura barbs my guess is thiers loose life qhenever an enchanment comeinto play or for each enchantment inplay.

Well, I don't like Demise much as a rare either. But here're my guesses for Barbs: Enchantment and Uncommon...:elf: Heehee, is it just me, or is trying to figure the card out really fun?
What we're doing here is akin to taking the text of Moby Dick, locating specific words therein, rearranging them to create a passage from Fight Club, and concluding from this evidence that Tyler Durden is based on Ahab.
hero's demise: I think that this card is not bad in this block... but r u sure that it's rare? it's not extremely good unless legends will see play in mass... but in many cases a simple terror is better...
I dont understand... terminate was common and much better (k was 2 color...)
aura barbs:
- "aura": usually used in white (enchantments)/blue (creatures -> legends)
so I'm guessing that since this is the legend block it's blue (the problem is the word "barbs" that seems more red)
I think it's an enchantment... it sounds like something that will affect permanently the game
"The bird of wonder dies, the maiden phoenix,
Her ashes new-create another heir
As great in admiration as herself.”
—William Shakespeare, King Henry the Eighth
aura tends to be something found on white cards. and barbs tend to mean it does something to stop or hurt that which it targets
my bet is an enchant critter that stops abilities or keeps it from untaping. very white shut down. as for cost w and maybe 1 or 2 colorless
now that black POS utter waste of a rare slot. if it was uncommon then it would be solid. every time i open this crap i will have been jipped whatever i paid for the pack
it'll be powerful in block, since it seems decks like snakes seem to be fairly potent in early testing. 1B to kill off a random legend is nice, but 1B to kill a Kumano, Kokusho (yes, i'd gladly go ahead & take the 5 from kokusho's graveyard trigger than let him hit me a couple of times), or any other random powerful legend is more than good enough.
Spock is not portrayed correctly. If Vulcans are above petty emotions, what motivates him to join the most elite starship crew in the galaxy? I, on the other hand, have transcended the weakness of emotion and achieved a blissful lack of caring. Apathy is my strength, our strength, which prevents us from being all-to-human. In this spirit, may Meh be with you, always.
The fact that it is a rare is insult to injury. Who wants to open that? Outside block it is very narrow. I hates it I do!
The other card will be some enchantment that triggers on spirits entering or leaving play - prolly with damage to it or its controller. Or a spirit Pandamonium. But Thief of Hope is like that already sortoff.
Arkham, the 1920's. Investigators battle horrors from beyond time and space, risking life and sanity while conspiracies of cultists and malign servitors seek gateways for their outer gods to return...
Soon, the stars will be right! Great Cthulhu shall rise!
Hero's Demise is too narrow for my tastes. I prefer stuff that I'm going to be able to use in any block. Rare just adds salt to the wound.
What if aura barbs is something like:
Aura Barbs 1WR
Enchant Enchantment
When enchanted enchantment or aura barbs is the target of a spell or effect, aura barbs does 4 damage to that spell or effects controller. "Get your spells OFF OF ME!"
Ancient Runes is decidedly NOT fake. The rumor that it's in this set seems to have been discredited though.
Hero's Demise is almost entirely unplayable in Limited unless you're desperate for answers to your opponent's rares (or Nagao). Most removal will deal with bombs in this set; there isn't anything like Morphling that just gets around removal.
Aura Barbs sounds like an enchantment that deals damage. It is probably red. But it might be white. How the should I know?

GENERATION 7: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the generation. social experiment.
Demise is a good sideboard card in a rare slot-also great in limited/block. Remember folks, this block is going to have more legends than the Legend set.
As for Aura Barb here is my guess-
2W-Instant- destroy target enchantment or target artifact. -this- deals damage equal to the converted mana cost of enchantment/artifact to owner
Hero's Demise is useless in standard - anything that's a wasted slot against almost Affinity and Tooth & Nail will not see serious play. As for Aura Barbs, I expect it has something to do with Enchantments (as does almost everything Aura) and deals 1 damage to creatures (as does almost everything Barbed, except Lightning). And it's red cause red likes damage. My guess:
Aura Barbs 2RR
Instant
Aura Barbs deals one damage to each creature for each enchantment in play.
Gah, making that a rare is dumb. It just makes it harder for poor college students like me to get a hold of a playset >_<
As for Aura Barbs...the name implies that the enchantment would have to tap (manabarbs and aura whatever), which would be friggin weird.
So....for the sake of hoping, I'm gonna say its an artifact hoser ^^;;
Aura Barbs (either mono green or green/white with a CC of around 3 or 4)
Enchantment

Great in Block, crap in Standard except sideboard, absolutely great removal in Limited but wish it was an Uncommon.
Red Enchantment 2R
Whenever an activated ability of an artifact or enchantment is played, its controller takes 1 damage.
Red Instant 1R
Destroy target artifact or enchantment, take damage equal to CMC.
Green Instant G
Destroy target artifact or enchantment, take damage equal to CMC.
Green Enchantment 2G
Whenever you play a creature spell, destroy target artifact or enchantment.
All of these sort of play off of either Mana Barbs or Aura Shards.
