I think you're right. But that doesn't change my opinion on the card, which to reiterate is that I hate it.
It's a rare thing for a local enchantment to be good enough to see play. This just raises the bar a little bit for how good the enchantment has to be to see play.
Actually, CoP: Red wouldn't screw Aura Barbs at all. Please note the wording of the card. The spell deals no damage itself, the ENCHANTMENTS are the sources. This gets by Protection and CoPs unhindered.

Some wonder why I carry 8 decks on me. The answer? I get tired of being boarded against in casual games, and 90% of the players I meet can't beat a jank deck I made to be tokens for a serious one.
IMHO this isn't an echantment heavy environment (yeah.. block-wise there are the shrines and the enchant lands among others but c'mon.. there's no enchantress or cantivores or something like that to give this kind of "enchanting" decks into something as competitive like affinity in mirrodin _think the time that takes you to get all the shrines in play vs the cheapness of something hush-like_)..
i mean.. the "top decks" don't spin around them.. and won't spin tournament wise (IMHO unless something else pops up and changes the metagame)
and instead of promoting the use of enchantments and such.. they penalize them...
but.. nice cards... btw.. a lot of cheap instant rares lately.. shunt.. stifle.. now's black's turn..

In many cases it would be a finisher. You've got 6 enchantments in play, hmmm? You're dead. Remember Price of Progress? That's only one mana cheaper, and against some decks, Aura Barbs would do more damage (and it's arcane and can kill creatures sometimes to boot).
The fundamental problem I have with this card is that there are next to no enchantments played in standard at this time, if there are any at all. In Extended, all this does is keep the already rogue Enchantress deck down. There are very little creature enchantments in print, let alone played (because Wizards JUST made the Creature Enchantment replacing Equipment type... making creature enchantments now even more useless) in standard.
The deal with price of progress is that when people play Non-Basic lands, they're usually not losing card advantage and they have some beneficial effect (usually producing mana along with providing an additional advantage- see Artifact Lands). In the case of Enchant Creatures, people usually pack creature killing cards, effectively making Enchant Creatures a major source of card disadvantage. Price of Progress hits players who use a very common card type... standard, extended, type one... all over, you will find people playing non-basic lands.
Standard: 3 Urzatron, 7 Artifact lands (Nexus included), City of Brass, 4 Legendary Lands (R,B,G, Boseiju), Cloudpost
Extended: 10 Painlands, Wasteland, 7 Artifact Lands, Searchlands, Gaea's Cradle, City of Traitors, City of Brass
Type 1: All of the above plus 10 dual-lands, mishra's factory/workshop, strip mine
As you can see, cards that hit non-basic lands have MANY more targets. Even then, NB land hosing cards only see sideboard play AT BEST... Price of Progress saw little to no sideboard play at PT Columbus and the format was swarmed with decks that could easily have lost with just ONE resolution of a PoP. That said, how do you stack up a card that hits a cardtype that's even LESS common? I can't see this card being effective anywhere unless we get a giant number of killer enchantments in BoK, and I'm not just talking about the Genjus.
I'm starting to get worried about this set... the power level of cards sharply contrast eachother... you have cards that look extremely playable (but, let's face it, 90% of the time we go off saying a card will be broken in half, it's fodder), at least "ok" in limited, or are otherwise unimaginably unplayable in nearly all formats. I didn't buy a box of CoK... I hope this set peps up a bit because I'm completely willing to get a box or two of BoK, assuming it's an improvement on CoK.
Hmmm, Hero's Demise might just be in the right rarity slot. The only major deck in T2 that never uses any legends is Ravager. Tooth sometimes has Kiki-Jiki, Big red has Kumano and the occasional Zo-Zu, WW has Isamaru and sometimes Nagao, U/X control has Keiga, Meloku, and sometimes Uyo. That list was just off the top of my head.
Demise isn't main-deck material, but it is a strong SB choice.

Do I win a prize?
Rend Flesh, Rend Spirit (in the sole case of Keiga and Kokuso), Death Cloud, Dark Banishing. 3 of the 5 I just listed have a leg up on Demise because they prevent regeneration. Heck, they all have a leg up on Demise because they're not rare! In all seriousness, this card should cost B, be Arcane (maybe it is and I had a memory lapse), and return a creature to your hand for it to warrant Rare status... Oh well, at least I have another card to add to my Holdem box.
bah...
why couldn't they make hero's demise 2B and common like REND SPIRIT and REND FLESH.
why must they insist on making RARES that are SO CRAPPY?
at least make it an uncommon.
Demise is too anti-block-theme to be anything but rare, but it's boring and that type of ability is sad to see at the rare level.
Aura Barbs is great, if red can't destroy enchantments then it's nice to see red get some thematically sound enchantment hate. All i can say is 'bout time!!
BLACK Legends in T2: Black Dragon, Horobi (sheesh... like anything doesn't kill this guy already), black flip rats (1+2), black Ki flipper (unknown right now, but he MAY be good...).
Given that the Rats will run rampant in a rat theme deck in T2 and will play a big part in many black/X control or monoblack decks in CHK, they're very hard to kill (Rend Flesh does it, but a turn later).
This card's good, not overly powerful, and should have 3 in the sideboard and 1 maindeck in any monoblack CHK deck, and probably in most B/X control decks in CHK block.
The only enchantments that could see play in t2 are:
Glorious Anthem
Ghostly Prison
Arrest:frown:
Phyrexian Arena
Endless Whispers
Intruder Alarm
Hondens
Any of those in tier 1 t2 decks? Hardly. Aura Barbs isnt going to see much play unless they create some freak enchantment.
And on Hero's Demise, good in block, but it still isnt going to touch my North Tree, so, kinda pointless.
Hero's Demise- First off, I do like the card. While more of a block oriented card, it's quite an efficient card at what it does, especially with a lot of finishers these days are legends. It will see some play in block sideboards. However, I don't like that it's rare. Why couldn't have been uncommon....
Aura Barbs- ....RIGHT. Well...uhh....it's bad tech for block's honden.dec? Beyond that, I haven't a clue what kind of uses this will even have, if any at all, but I do know one thing: this card has a spot in my casual multiplayer "This is a pile of red cards.dec."
as people said.. for being almost a block restricted card (i mean.. with no other use or at least not great impact in other blocks) it's misplaced as a rare.. i mean.. it should've been common.. uncommon tops.. cause the spirit / legends rate is almost the same.. and compared with the rends it's a big waste
but it's very useful.. sadly.. in kamigawa only..
talking about narrow scoped design..

hmm.. There is little constructive to say on theese cards.. they both suck and will like never ever see much play.. even in casual theyre just plain bad.. Only thing is aura barbs I perhaps could sb if my local metagame turned enchantmentheavy..

Hero's Demise is a speculative hoser, the type they print just in case some archetype they don't anticipate becomes superpowerful. MaRo mentioned them in this article (he called them "narrow" cards), and said that they're usually put at rare so they don't clutter up limited.
Why do u guy think that Heroes demise is so bad. For 2 mana you kill a legend, and it will probably be a pretty high cmc creature being a legend and all, and if its even just a little guy like sensie golden tail or something, than its still creature kill for 2 mana. IN this block every deck will have at least one legend in it. And most will have multiples, even control decks. So this card WILL be maindeck material. At least as a 2 or 3 of.

Each enchantment deals 2 damage to its controller, then each enchantment enchanting a creature deals 2 damage to the creature it’s enchanting.
Will cause the damage source to be White, so it's a pretty slick way to get around CoP:Red
