Hero's Demise is a solid card, made worse by its rare status but still good. I would be happy to include it in any draft/ sealed deck using black, that's for sure.
As for Aura Barbs, I'd bet that it's a red enchantment costing anywhere from 3-4 mana, but it could also be white. I'd also bet it has some effect that causes damage based on the number of enchantments. It may even be like Feedback, that old blue card. Definitely damage and enchantment related.
Haha! Remember, I'm only accepting guesses that include the two things I mentioned in the first post!
a) Commentary on Hero's Demise, and
b) The reason why you're guessing as you're guessing. For example, "It sounds like an Artifact because 'barbs' are sharp pointy things".
Two people that followed a and b guessed correctly about something. Firstly, it is something to do with enchantments, and secondly, it refers to damage in some way.
Red Instant that deals damage to each player equal to the # of enchantmenst you/they control (the enchantments retaliate and hurt the player)
Red Enchantment that punishes all players with enchantments (b/c it has no enchantment removal... think blood oath)
a white enchantment that punishes your opponents for having enchantment (like the odyssey block instant that destroyed all enchantments, then returned yours to play if you had threshold)
or
blue enchant enchantment similar to feedback (same reason as above) EDIT: this could be red as well...
Hero's demise should have been an uncommon. Way too narrow for a rare, but too unusual for a common. Not to mention, that I don't want to crack open my boosters at the prerelease and find 3 of them in the commons.
My guess for Aura Barbs:
Aura Barbs R2
Enchant Enchantment
Uncommon
Enchanted enchantment's controller takes 1 damage from Aura Barbs during his/her upkeep.
Ah. well here's the commentary to go with my guess on the first page:
I think hero's demise is set as good as it should be. There would be too many running around in one draft if it were available in limited, and It will be a first-to-third pick as it is.
EDIT- and I guessed what I guessed because the first thing I thought of when I saw the name was enchantment-karma.
Hero's Demise could have been an awesome uncommon, you don't want to open this as a rare in a draft though. It should be very good as a sideboard or even maindeck card in block. I think Aura barbs would look something like this:
Aura barbs 2R
Enchantment
At the beginning of each opponents upkeep deal x damage to that player where x is the number of enchantments they control.
Aura usually means something to do with enchantments and barbs sounds like damage.
Hero's Demise: Hardly unexpected, it was bound to be printed in this block at some point. As many people have said, it really shouldn't be rare, but I guess it was felt it would be too powerful in limited at other rarities.
Aura Barbs: I predict something similar to Aether Charge for enchantments. Whenever an enchantment comes into play you can have it deal damage to an opponent (and maybe a creature instead).

Remember, just because you're not paranoid doesn't mean they're not after you.
Aura barbs sounds like an enchantment hoser, but hosers are usually printed when that card type is featured, or when that card type is a problem, and honestly, I haven't been seeing a lot of artifacts hanging arund in deck lists recently. Every "Aura" card deals with enchantments, either is one, or effects them, with the exception of one obscure card, indestructable aura. I think it's safe to say that this card either effects enchantments, or is one, and since the number Aura cards that are auras, and don't effect them are miniscule, trends would point to this card effecting enchantments in some manner.
Perhaps the clearly white/blue card word, aura, mixed with the clearly red "barbs" is an indication that there will be gold cards in the set. This card sounds like a "circle of protection hoser" like mana barbs was, back in the day. Unfortunatly, circles aren't exactly *use*, that would be like proactively printing a Dan Dan hoser.
Anyway, my completely baseless guess.
Aura Barbs R
(Rare)
Enchant Permanant
Whenever a triggered ability of enchanted permanant triggers, Aura Barbs deals two damage to that permanant's controller.
Barring that,
Aura Barbs 2RR
Enchantment
Whenever an opponant plays an activated ability on an enchantment or artifact he or she controls, Aura Barbs deals two (one?) damage to them.
Wow, so aura barbs isn't an enchantment, sorcery, instant or artifact because people have already mentioned those types (as well as commented on Hero's Demise).
Land? Creature? Maybe a local enchantment that someone hasn't mentioned, like an enchant creature?
Edit: Wait, now I can't find someone who said artifact. Hmm. Must be an artifact.
a)I think Hero's demise is just awful considering not that many legandary creatures see play. Even if it were uncommon i still dont see it getting much play out of limited. Personally i see it as a wasted rare slot.
b) aura barbs-:2mana::symr:
Enchantment
At the beginning of each player's upkeep that player loses 1 life for each enchantment they control. (RARE)
Any player may sacrifice an enchantment to counter this effect.
I see this being aura (enchantment) andf barbs (damage) plus you already told us it involved damage and enchantments. (ain't i smart) I could see them doing a upkeep damage thing like i stated but i also think thats a little bland and WOTC would probably tac on an extra effect like the sacrifice thing.

R_E only said that there were two correct guesses among those actually did both things he asked; comment on Hero's Demise and guess on Aura Barbs.
Well, there goes the artifact hoser >_<
Oh well, we can all hope, right?
hmm....going out on a limb again, I'm going to say that it's a white and red enchantment (seeing as how white is the new artifact hoser, and how cards with barbed are usually in red). It has to do with damage, soi I'm going to go off of Barbed Wire and say its an upkeep thing.

No, he said that 2 people guessed "something" correct. They got part, and he said what part.
I could be wrong but from what I see from his post he is saying that the words enchantment and damage appear in the card, but we haven't gotten anything else right.
Bork, that's not a reason why you're guessing that way... it's just a guess!
a) Commentary on Hero's Demise, and
b) The reason why you're guessing as you're guessing. For example, "It sounds like an Artifact because 'barbs' are sharp pointy things".
Nevertheless, a few people have made correct guesses.
Aura Barbs - cost?

a) I don't hink Hero's demise will see much play. Unless some tier 1 deck relying on Legendary creatures rises up it won't make it very far beyond limited sideboards.
b) People have already posted what I first thought of when I heard the name so I'll try a variant:
Aura Barbs 3R
Enchantment (R)
Sacrifice an Enchantment: Deal 2 damage to target creature or player.
Aura Barbs - :3mana::symw::symw:
Instant (rare) Each enchantment deals 2 damage to its controler, then each enchantment enchanting a creature deast 2 damage to that creature, then destroy all enchantments.
Wow..... having trouble keeping up with all the guesses... didn't think this would move so quickly! Good thing I didn't go out for a few hours and then come back and find 500 posts here!
Someone has guessed the correct casting cost and someone guessed a little more of the text!
Aura Barbs -

Hero's Demise ~ Rend Spirit (For you non-math-types "~" is read "is similar to)
Granted, there are more Legendary creatures than Spirits, but does it really warrant: +2 Rarity slots = -1 mana cost? Not too sure about that. But, then, why was Rapid Decay a rare?
Anyways, my guess:
Aura = enchantments, always has
Barbs = damage
Hates enchantments, deals damage, hmmm... red?
Aura Barbs
2R
Instant - Arcane (Uncommon)
Each enchantment deals 2 damage to its controller, then each enchantment enchanting a creature deals damage equal to its converted mana cost to that creature
Hmmm, well the hero's demise card is probably going to be AT LEAST sideboard in block, probably maindeck but it will be kind of dissapointing to open it up in one of your packs you win from the prerelease or a pack that you pay your money for, hopefully it will end up as a $6 card or more, so it will be a better experience to open.
As for aura barbs, i think that it makes each enchanment deal 2 damage to its controller, than makes each enchantment that is enchanting a permanent destroy that permanent, because the card should somehow destroy enchantments, seeing as the word aura is in the name, and by killing the thing they enchant, it would kill the enchantment as well.
