Honestly, that is one of my favorite all-time creatures. Such good memories of land destruction decks running it.... sweet, hopefully I can reconstruct that one someday.
hmmm... didn't really see that one coming. it'll be terrible in draft (not exactly a ton of sorceries going on...) but in multiplayer casual it could get right fun right quick!
I really hope they bring the whole cycle back. I have fond memories of Terravore, Magnivore, Mortivore, and Cognivore(sorry Cantivore, you seem to be the cast-out). By bringing back magnivore, they're obviously pushing LD, maybe because they've reprinted something else?(Wake of Destruction or Tectonic Break maybe?).
Wildfire would sure fit in with the "World Aflame" name and has been printed in Portal and other "easy" sets before.

New Rules come out for 1999 6th Edition... "THEY'RE TURNING MAGIC INTO PORTAL! THE GAME IS RUINED! EVERYONE PETITION AND GET THEM TO CHANGE IT BACK!"
New Rules come out for 2010 Edition... "THEY'RE TURNING MAGIC INTO YU-GI-OH! THE GAME IS RUINED! EVERYONE PETITION AND GET THEM TO CHANGE IT BACK!"
New Rules come out for *Reserved for something in 2020* "THEY'RE TURNING MAGIC INTO *currently "simple" game by the more "skilled" players*! THE GAME IS..." etc.
That's Magnivore, all right. Does that mean the other Lhurgoyfs are back? I wouldn't mind seeing Mortivore again
Just because they show one of the cards from a cycle doesn't mean that the whole thing is coming back. Avatar of Hope was the only avatar from a cycle to make it into 8th; Two of the winds (Searing Wind and Plague Wind from Prophecy). So you see, a full cycle isn't likely to get printed like you'd expect. Since we do have the original Lhurgoyf(at least I think we do), so the chances of them bringing the entire cycle are slim if that's the case. I'd give Cognivore or Cantivore over Mortivore or the others on top of Magnivore and Lhurgoyf.

If we can confirm that lhurgoyf (the original) is confirmed, and other parts of the cycle are coming back, this bodes ill for the return of tramlpe in 9th. Since the green lhurgoyf from odyssey (sorry, forgot the name) has trample, and lhurgoyf (original) is probably back, this shows that trample might very well not be in 9th, despite the rumors and 'evidence'.
OMFG, I will seriously cream myself if Magnivore comes back. Maggie is twelve kinds of awesome. Frankly, I'd be happy to see all the Goyfs back, though a reprint of Terravore would kinda rule out the return of Armageddon. Still a trade I'd happily make.
Magnivore is a 15 cent rare, and had never been played in anything but the most casual of casual decks, even when it was in Type 2. Another garbage rare for the base set... but at least it's simple for the "stupid newbs" who WotC assumes we all are!

Hey, I've won Online Extended tournaments with that sucker. Him, Terravore, LD culminating with Decree of Annihilation, cycled of course. Seething Song always helped there. The deck was nasty, probably still is, had been as recently as yesterday mulling putting it back together. AND NOW HE'S IN 9TH! :). Probably means the entire cycle is, too. Even without the cantrip uncounterable armageddon around, Magnivore is still pretty good with Red sorceries being at a high point, especially compared to his first time around.
Its also a darn good thing, because it shows they're being creative with what they're putting in there, and that's obviously a good thing
edit: World aflame...LD friendly card...I will literally cream my pants and giggle to death if they have reprinted what is close to my favorite all-time card...
Wake of Destruction, have you returned to me, my love? *prays* (though Wildfire is cool too, lol. but it ain't no Wake)
edit again: Maybe this is another push in the "ravnica=land block" direction...
that's not what happened at all. kamahl stabbed phage, akroma, and some old lady and they became korona. then korona got stabbed by her "prophets" and kamahl got drunk with a mutant centaur
I remember playing MTGO back in the day in beta testing, and playing a red/black LD deck with chainer's edicts, innocent bloods, goblin gardeners and lots of LD. Magnivore was my prime win condition, and I won some tourneys as well with that deck. Some of us love the LD!
I seriously hope they reprint Mortivore as opposed to the orginal Ghoyf. Mort is certainly more in keeping with the color pie, black generally caring more about the grave than green.

Think that's bad? Cognivore saw more play than this lug ever did (CogniOath). Why people are singing its praises now when it probably was one of those "what a **** rare this is!" responses they gave when presented with this card in their packs of Odyssey is beyond me, but I'd expect that to calm down once people realize that...yeah, it's another jank rare to open up in a core set booster which had a slight use for only a split second. Ahh, I love double standards.
If the original Lhurgoyf made it to 5th, and came back for 8th...then I wouldn't be surprised if it does make another comeback this time around.

Magnivore is a pretty solid finisher, that said I dont know how good It will be in this T2. Kumano is pretty solid, and Arc-Slogger is quite good, but haste helps.
I hope the vore's come back, all of them (including Cantivore in Johnny decks) were played to some extent. Cognivore was actually pretty busted in Oath, not that it would do that now its just seen some play
R_Elf is right that Magnivore is likely a "quarter rare" but it's still a fun inclusion in the base set (which is usually designed more for casual players: based upon the "advanced vs. expert" label applied by WotC).
So, it will appeal to "Timmy" and definitely to the "Johnny" players (like I used to be), who like designing unpredictable combo decks (that will get wrecked by net decks, but that's a whole other thread of discussion).
Finally, I am wondering about R_Elf's harsh tone: since I don't think you've played in many of the high-end tournaments, is your reaction more from a dealer's perspective, rather than a player? Just curious.

That says more about the state of MTGO then the playability of the card :tongue2:
