Why people are singing its praises now when it probably was one of those "what a **** rare this is!" responses they gave when presented with this card in their packs of Odyssey is beyond me, but I'd expect that to calm down once people realize that...yeah, it's another jank rare to open up in a core set booster which had a slight use for only a split second. Ahh, I love double standards.
A bit of ignorance there, on your part. The T2 environment we're in now and will be post 9th is alot different than the T2 environment that existed back in INV/OD and OD/ONS. Currently Ponza decks are getting alot more viable, as is Sligh or Red Deck Wins, or whatever you want to call it. Since almost all land destruction spells are Sorceries, it fits perfectly into a Ponza deck. Also consider the fact that Mirrodin block will be rolling out in a matter of months after this becomes legal, and T&N and Death Cloud will either cease to exist, or will be severaly weakened, leaving room for several different decks to have their chance to shine, including Ponza and Sligh. Also note that Arc-Slogger and Slith Firewalker will be missing from red decks, and they'll be searching for possible replacements. If past speculation proves true, and we somehow end up with Slith Firewalker in 9th, then Magnivore could be choice replacement for Arc-Slogger.
I believe all the "vores" except Cantivore saw some amount of Constructed play. I'd imagine they'd end up being priced at a buck or two each. (For some reason I keep thinking of Rule of Law and how it was actually worth something last Extended season due to Mind's Desire. I'm guessing a similar trade value.)
Nothing to jump for joy over, but at least the cards are playable under appropriate circumstances. It could be worse.
Spock is not portrayed correctly. If Vulcans are above petty emotions, what motivates him to join the most elite starship crew in the galaxy? I, on the other hand, have transcended the weakness of emotion and achieved a blissful lack of caring. Apathy is my strength, our strength, which prevents us from being all-to-human. In this spirit, may Meh be with you, always.
A creature with haste and the ability to have a great P/T isn't a 15 cent rare in my humble opinion. I look forward to 9th and plan to buy several boxes of it. Mianly because I want the reprinted Will-o-the-Wisp.. but Magnivore is another incentive.
This card will be shaped by sets yet to come so I think all those complaining about the rare (Magnivore) should compain about Balance of Power instead in 8th Edition. What's with that card?
OMG i hope the reprint the whole cycle. my type 1.5 Mesmeric Orb deck abuses Terravore to great success. too bad Orb cycles out of type 2 within weeks of 9th.

The funny thing about the whole cycle is, who cares if they reprint Cantivore. I wouldn't even play that in an Enchantress deck.

Magnivore is not that great. Period. It's ok...not jizzle-my-load-over-the-table- great but ok.

Elspeth and Jhoira rock my world.
"Decent" red sorceries did not make Magnivore playable. Cards like Recoup are what led people to play Magnivore in sideboards.
My comment stands.
