Today's Arcana had an image by Adam Rex so naturally I looked up his web site. A number of images have been copyrighted by WotC and to my knowledge havn't been printed yet. Am I jumping the gun here? (He does have A LOT of cards under his proverbial belt.)
Good points there.
I just thought it might be possible as we've allready seen an art site with SoK pics (albiet some images were released a week or so later)
Sometimes its even work that wasnt released, Mark Zug's site has an image of Tsabo Tavoc that was never used, and RK Post's site has M:TG Action figure designs for example.
WotC has more products than just Magic - there's also D&D and other franchises that need illustrations. So just because Wizards has copyright for some art doesn't mean it's reserved for Magic...
Also, I'm pretty sure Magic Artists have to sign legal stuff that prohibits them from showing their new art before the set is officially realeased. And since they neither want to be sued into bancrupty nor want to lose their buisiness contacts, they certainly won't have any unreleased card art on their website...
As far as I know, there aren't any legal documents stating that artists aren't allowed to show off art from upcoming sets/expansions. A number of artists have been known to talk about their upcoming artwork at conventions and on their websites.
