Argh! The art in this block is so freaking awesome, why does it have to suck so much?!?
[edit]
It really is true. Champions is the new Masques. Ravnica is the new Invasion.
Urza = Artifacts (I know, it's supposed to be enchantments, but that's not what it's really known for) Mirrodin
Masques = Low-Power Power-Equalizer block (Champions)
Invasion = Gold set (really fun block) (Ravnica)
But remembre, its only like this becuse there was such broken stuff in the last block, you can't expect every set to have crazy stuff like ravager in it.
... But multicolor in rav makes me quite delighted...

"Why do I fight?... I keep on fighting to find that answer."
Oh no I don't expect every set to have broken stuff in it, but Champions is comparible to running at top speed then suddenly tripping on a rock and falling face first into the pavement stopping any motion whatsoever. Sure, it looks cool, if you enjoy seeing others in very large amounts of pain, which I do admit can be quite entertaining at times.

Yeah, how you said, Urza Block was no Artifact Block.
I would be a fool if I disclaim that Masques wasn't underpowered - It was, but Champions is not THAT underpowered (yes, it is, but not that much).
I mean, it has nice commons/uncommons, Keiga, Kokusho, Extraction, Hokori, White 'nd black shoal, Jitte, Gifts ungiven, Meloku, (Time Stop), Forbidden Orchard and some nice other, and it has potential even outside block/t2 (Orchard, Extraction, Jitte, Gifts Ungiven))
And we dont have confirmed that Ravnica is a Multicolor block - We just know that it features multicolor cards.
The Picture looks cool, but how said, it doesnt say much about the card :/

Well there are some cool cards in Champions, but alot of them aren't that playable, and the ones that are playable right now will end up seeing little play at all after the block rotates eventually, and may even stop seeing much play when Ravnica comes out depending on what it brings to the playing field (ie. Time Stop, Hokori, Jitte, Forbidden Orchard, Keiga, Meloku, etc.)
As for Rav and gold block, R_E has confirmed through good sources that it's going to indeed be the next gold block
If nothing else, Ill say this:
IMO Champions Block has had the best art we've seen in a long while. Looking at what has come out and what has been previewed of Saviors, Im really excited about this whole set aesthetically.

Nice art. If it's a card, it goes on the "I want this in foil just because it looks awesome" list, like Walker of Secret Ways
For me atleast, this has been true of alot of the cards in this set, regardless of how powerfull they are.

It's combo. Turn 4/5, someone loses.
Best Card Ever!! Because who wouldn't want to be both?!? :spirit:
It's a trend to compare Kamigawa block with Masques Block, but there's something you're missing: Masques Block, while underpowered, featured really broken stuff, like Lin Sivvi and her pals (not that I am complaining... broken white stuff is always good ;)) and Rishadan Port. After the fiasco that was Mirrodin (R&D should know better, really), they at least managed to make a more or less balanced block. I don't think any card will need to be banned in block, except for maybe Jitte, but i doubt that. On top of that, the block has awesome flavor, art, and world/storyline concepts.
The problem is not Kamigawa, which features a fair amount of powerful cards. It's MIRRODIN and it's degeneracy.
With that logic, Seraph, then you could constitute Onslaught as being the creature type-heavy variant of Tempest (slivers and that minor tribal theme).

I agree with RickCorgan. Rebels were as broken as affinity before lin sivvi was banned. Rishadan Port was ridiculuosly good, every deck would run at least 1. It was banned in block.(I think it was banned in type 2 as well). Champions has some really good cards. The reason it is looked down apon, is only because Mirrodin was the new Urza's block. Infact I think that as a whole Mirrodin block might have had a worse effect on the game than Urza's.But back to Champions bloc, if it werent for Forbidan Orchard Type 1 Oath would still be dead, now it is one of the most widely played vintage decks. Umezawa's Jitte is played as widely in block as Skulclamp was in Mir block. Jitte is the second to best equipment, behind only Skulclamp WHICH IS BANNED IN EVERY FORMAT EXEPT FOR VINTAGE!Kokusho the Evening Star is a really good black creature, close to the level of Phyrexian Plaguelord in my oppinion.Kamigawa block is as good as Onslaught, Invasion(which was actually rather weak, but really really fun to play with), or Oddysey.Mirrodin block was as good as Urza's block, which was broken as hell.

In my mind, Kamigawa is not too weak, but mirroden was too strong. People got used to that level of power, and they got disapointed with ChK block as a result.
a lot of the cards MUC uses right now will be gone.
Actually, not a lot, but at least the one that matters: Shackles. Without shackles, I don't think mono-blue will be viable; it will have to team up with white to get creature control in the form of borad sweepers... and that's awesome, because I LOVE UW.
I know i might get bashed, but if you take a close look at the art, if it is infact for a card. It looks as though it could be a Lobotomy or a functional reprint. Notice the spirit in the corner, how it looks like something that would try to eat you'r brain...
Just speculation.... it was the first thing that jumped to mind when I saw the art...
With that logic, Seraph, then you could constitute Onslaught as being the creature type-heavy variant of Tempest (slivers and that minor tribal theme).
My Logic? I never said that they will just remake the block main themes, I just said that I hope that the Multicolor block should be as good as Invasion (So, I don't think the block after Ravnica will be Graveyard based).
When its something like Lobotomy : AAAH not more Multicolor cards! Not, that I hate Multicolors, but the colors...(Just look at Genju of the Realm...buah!)(and dont misunderstand me - I love the new design, well, all but Multicolor cards :/ )

I don't like the way the new multicoloured cards look either. Give me the flowing golden pattern over the chunky design they have now anyday. I just hope they put some well-thought-out quality into these new gold cards because the majority of them in Invasion were unplayable.
Honestly, I hope Ravnica is better than Invasion. Everyone seems to think Invasion was the best thing since televised porn...but I, for one, was unturned by the set. It just didn't strike me (whee! Striking!) as I thought it would have.

No, affinity is better... Rebels never competed in Extended did they? Affinity was definitely one of the 1.x decks, and will get only better after Extended rotates.
Champions has some really good cards. The reason it is looked down apon, is only because Mirrodin was the new Urza's block. Infact I think that as a whole Mirrodin block might have had a worse effect on the game than Urza's.
Look at the Type one restricted list. Count the number of Urza's cards. Count the number of Mirrodin block cards. This gives a good indication of the "brokenness" ration between those blocks. Saying Mirrodin is as good as Urza's, or had an even worse effect on the game (?) is stupid.
But back to Champions bloc, if it werent for Forbidan Orchard Type 1 Oath would still be dead, now it is one of the most widely played vintage decks.
Yes Orchard is kinda good, but the card by itself isn't great. It just happens to have a great interaction with Oath.
Umezawa's Jitte is played as widely in block as Skulclamp was in Mir block.
How exactly does one card being played massively in BLOCK prove the power level of that block?? Skullclamp wasn't just played widely in block, Skullclamp was in every type two deck, and then even started conquering the formats with large card pools. Jitte? Er, no. Now obviously Skullclamp is broken and we don't need another one, but comparing Jitte to Clamp is ridiculous.
Jitte is the second to best equipment, behind only Skulclamp WHICH IS BANNED IN EVERY FORMAT EXEPT FOR VINTAGE!
Firstly, the fact that the number one equipment gets banned everywhere says nothing about the power level of the number two. And secondly, Jitte is not the second best equipment, Sword of Fire and Ice easily beats it.
Kokusho the Evening Star is a really good black creature, close to the level of Phyrexian Plaguelord in my oppinion.
The level of Phyrexian Plaguelord? Wow...
Kidding aside, yes Kokusho is a pretty good creature. Unfortunately six mana creatures need to be very good to get played... Well I guess Kokusho could occasionally see play outside of T2... but not much.
Kamigawa block is as good as Onslaught, Invasion(which was actually rather weak, but really really fun to play with), or Oddysey.Mirrodin block was as good as Urza's block, which was broken as hell.
I find it very suitable that you end your post with such a statement so clearly untrue that it's laughable. So, what decks outside of T2 are helped by Kamigawa cards? Orchard in Oath, Extraction in Rock... then it gets hard. Onslaught gives, just to name a couple of things, fetchlands, shaking up every single format, Goblins (an entire deck created by this block) which is one of the top contenders in Extended and will lose nothing with the rotation. Oh and every Storm-based deck in every format. Invasion block wasn't the strongest, but I'm quite sure Pernicious Deed is more vital to the Rock than Extraction, Scepter-Chant wouldn't exist without Mage, Chant and Fire/Ice. Odyssey had two decks that became viable in pretty much any format, Psychatog and Madness. Kamigawa? Nah.
You really just need to embrace the rage. I keep a small colony of hamsters next to my computer and every time I lose a match to mana screw I throw one against the wall.
