A source which asked to remain anonymous (and which I can't verify) emailed me to let me know Slith Firewalker will appear in 9th edition. To me, it seems a bit like wishful thinking, since it has become quite a popular card in Type 2 red decks, and reprinting it in 9th would keep it in Type 2 for another couple years. But there's really nothing about the card that doesn't fit with the core set, so I guess it's possible.
Beng a Johnny who has pent way too much time tryign to crack a good rogue deck for Standard on Magic Online, I can't say i'm terribly thrilled to see the Firewalker continue to be around, heh. Its gotten annoying. And with Rathi Dragon around? Crikey. Hopefully they put power cards in colors other than red in 9th

that's not what happened at all. kamahl stabbed phage, akroma, and some old lady and they became korona. then korona got stabbed by her "prophets" and kamahl got drunk with a mutant centaur
Well, there's one thing against it: they don't usually do +1/+1 counters on modern core sets, the exception being the rare Fungusaur. I guess it's possible.
The only question I have is, since Firewalker costs two mana, why in the world doesn't the white slith cost two as well? Gosh I hate R&D.

My guess would be 1/1 haste with an abilty is only worth 2 mana goblin striker 1/1 haste firststrike is 1R but flying is always been more exp....1/1 flying with that ability would be really powerfull if it was only WW to cast...imo
I think it's a perfect fit for 9th. Even though it is part of a block cycle, it really is the only one I feel that feels right standing on its own. Firewalker seems like an elegantly created card, and the other 4 seem like "let's make a cycle out of this guy" cards.
If this is ture, that will be great. Maybe they will make a small +1/+1 counter cycle in 9th. This would be common and Fungasaur Would be Rare. But what would be uncommon. The Slith are some nice creatures but only the red seems like it would be reprinted. The white one is more since it maybe be too strong in a WW deck.

Anyways, I'm going shrug. I'm not excited (nor disappointed) to see it again, but I think it may get bumped up to rare since in 8th we saw no counters or tokens and in 8th the only ones we saw were rare (Rukh egg and fungusaur). They may have been testing the waters, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
I'm all for it. I'm quite a fan of the card. Let's hope for a mana accelerator in Ravnica that'll be able to replace the eventual loss of Chrome Mox. I've cast far more turn 2 Slith Firewalkers than turn 1.
I looked at 8th Edition and I noticed that there is only one card that uses +1/+1 counters (Fungusaur). This has me thinking there won't be that many cards thatuses counters, and if there are, they'd only be in green, since there are more green cards that use +1/+1 counters. I think R_E may be right in saying it's wishful thinking.

"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."
At 2 mana, the white slith would probably be as good as the red one. It could be better, but it IS supposed to be better. White weenie will never be tier 1 again while R&D keeps printing most of the best weenies in red, while white is supposed to be the #1 weenie color. Things like 1/1 flyers for 1 are good, but nowhere near aggressive enough.
Anyway, it's great to see R_E posting rumors again.
Haste is a pretty poor ability that is only justified on the Firewalker because of its possible turn one plays. Evasion is much, MUCH more powerful in the long term, which is why the Ascendent costs 1 more.

@Kenji: well with the loss of Mox in t2 and the initial loss of the Turn 1 Slith which, usually is a good start for any red deck, may not be a lost cause at all. MAYBE they might print a "mox like" artifact just like Chrome mox ^^. You can only hope, lol.

Legend has it...that on this day 5 years from now a beast will arise and destroy all life. Some say its a myth, other say it will be our Judgemnet Day. But one thing is for certain, no one will live to tell the tale...
The day will come!
The beast controls ur life!
The beast Controls your death!
It is the decider of our fate!
It is...the Legacy Weapon!
And it shall rectify all those who have sinned!
Slith Firewalker in 9th? Seems a bit too good to be true, not to mention how recent Slith Firewalker is. I'm going to remain doubtful about this...4/10 on the probability meter.
Haste is a pretty poor ability that is only justified on the Firewalker because of its possible turn one plays. Evasion is much, MUCH more powerful in the long term, which is why the Ascendent costs 1 more.
Haste is an extremely powerful mechanic in red. Fast decks are all about speed, and a combination of burn to deal with blockers and efficient hasted creatures like Firewalker is a very good deal to any red deck. And besides, "long term" is something very, very difficult to mind in fast, aggressive decks. I assure you, even if the white slith costed 2 mana, firewalker would still come out on top, in pretty much the same way Jackal Pup is considered better than Savannah Lions.
I really don't think this is true. It seems to me like Wizards would have to print the entire cycle, and (correct me if I'm wrong) I don't think they print cycles in Eighth edition. Plus it seems a little too block-specific.
This could be real. This might be fake. It could very well in 9th but your source does not seem conviencing.....If it is reprinted it will see play but not be as good, a great card for a Core Set....!
Red is only able to make use of cards strictly worse than their counterparts (Jackal Pups vs Savannah Lions) because of that, speed. In the end, white prefers a surefire way of getting in quick hits, and since it doesn't have the fire of red or the sheer force of green, it gets by from blue's rejects.

You may be right, but I don't think Wizards would stop at that as far as a core set is concerned. I'd imagine that they'd reprint Slith Firewalker , and maybe another for kicks, possible the white one. It doesn't seem too impossible.
I also feel that Firewalker may get the shift up to rare. It seems as though the rarities we see in core sets seem, to some degree, reflect what wizards' thoughts of new gamers' first impressions of the cards. Look at Okk . They see a 4/4 for :1mana::symr:. Rare! Cool! Little do they realize when they play it, it may not be useful for a couple more turns. With the firewalker at rare we'd get a similar reaction from newbies: Sweet! a 1/1 Haste that gets bigger whenever it deals damage! Rare! Means it's awesome and I should play it! Little do they know, the opponent needs to not play a creature turn one. Otherwise it's good.
I dunno.....I guess I'm gonna say it's real on account for wishful thinking that we know more about 9th. And because it makes sense.....that too.
