i see this as saying more that the spell itself can only be cast once, like a lengendary sorcery or instant. i think it would extract yourself for all copies once it resolves.

Seeing how it was worded "If you could cast one spell for the rest of your life, what would it be?" it implies that it would be the last spell you cast... at least, for me it does.
I saw a Poster today at my card store for Saviours.
It said "If you could cast one spell for the rest of your life, what would it be?"
Maybe there is some truth to the Epic spells being spells you cast that are so powerful
that you can't cast anymore spells afterwards?
I'd cast form of a squirrel...I <3 being a little furry thing with nuts in my mout....umm nevermind...
All this build up to SoK and no rumors is driving me insane, I feel that the set will either suck or be very powerful. I hope for uber powerful Epic spells, I'd like to see the 'tron going towards somethign else beside TaN.

Insane thinking. Put four copies of the "Epic Spell" on your deck and then you remove all the copies from the game after you played it, awesome. Maybe something like this:
Overflow :symu::symu:
Instant - Epic
Counter target spell. Then search your hand, graveyard, library, and remove all copies of Overflow from the game.
Legends always returns.
It lets you thin the deck gives card advantage and is a great effect on a card.
What do you guys think?

Err...I don't like it?
When most people talk about thinning the deck they talk about getting land out of it, or cards they don't want to play in the mid-late game. This does not seem like one of those cards.

Sadly, the Orb doesn't follow up with that ability, as great as it sounds. I think Epic spells will prevent you from playing spells for the rest of that turn, and through the next turn.

Ok, perhaps this is a bit punny, but what if there is a Channel mechanic that functions similarly to Channel? One spell for the rest of your life. Horrible, I know.
On a more serious note, this sounds like it may be referencing some variant on buyback. I read it as 'Choose one spell, thats all you ever get to play, again and again and again.' This would of course be horrible, but its what I'm getting from the text.
I think it'll be something like Final Fortune, but rather a cycle of rare, cheap but powerful spells.
Epic Tides - 1UU
Sorcery - Arcane (R)
Return all permanents to their owner's hands. You lose the game at the end of turn (spells or abilities cannot prevent you from losing the game.)
er, a better one would be...
Epic Tides - 1UU
Sorcery - Arcane (R)
Draw seven cards. You lose the game at the end of turn (spells or abilities cannot prevent you from losing the game.)
I can try to get a picture tomorrow maybe. I can't scan it since it is at the store, but I could take a picture of it.
I don't think it is a "legendary spell" because you would still be able to play other spells after you cast said legendary spell. I think its going to be something that doesn't allow spells after it has been cast. So it better be a powerful affect. Oh, and it has a cool picture of a guy surrounded in flames.

That'd be great Leben, any chance you may be able to ask the store owner if they have any other promotional material on Saviors for the forums perusal? Any thing would be vastly appreciated
Why that reminder text? Spells and abilities can prevent you from losing the game..
That's the exact point of the reminder text, it's saying that for this particular spell, those spells and abilities can't help you, that way you can't cheat your way out of it by Platinum Angel or something like that. The way I see it, when it says one last spell, it literally means one last spell, like the last one you're ever going to cast, and what better way to prevent you from ever casting one again, than killing you if you play it? Epic sounds huge, like a huge huge effect, probably something so huge it put's it's caster in a coma it's so huge. In other words, the spell nearly kills you becuase it's so powerful.
Anyway, it's all speculation on my part, so I'm not going to go on about it much more.

I like this, I think that that sounds like something that Wizards would do again.
Another thought, could this have any connection to the instances of Channel that were found? I guess im still stuck on the idea that spells with Channel in them have something to do with life loss. Maybe something that has an X were X is your current life total, and after you play it you lose that much life?
Super Happy Epic Channel Spell - 4RR
Instant - Epic
Deals X damage to target creature or player where X is equal to your current life total.
EOT you lose X life

R&D's design theory, in a nutshell: Cater to timmy. Alienate Johnny. Act confused when Spike breaks the format anyway.
Definition of Combo Decks:
Quote from Erad »
It's combo. Turn 4/5, someone loses.
Best Card Ever!! Because who wouldn't want to be both?!? :spirit:
something simple like a green one say, putting a 5/5 token into play, or giving +5/+5. at end of turn you lose the game would work, but i wouldnt say its EPIC. but still, so far we have: you cant play spells afterwards, (so playing it better put you into a good position to win.) or you lose the game at end of turn, so playing it MUST win you the game. either way, something like a red burn spell would have to be low costed like shrapnel blast in order for it to be any good. same with the green spells. it would have to be like 2 mana for it to be any good. leading me to believe epic is going to mean something else....probably another stupid huge cool effect but costing 10 mana cycle:(
If it were a end-the-turn thing, like I'm speculating, I'm thinking it would be the following:
White: Mass artifact and enchantment removal (the reason I say this is because it's in flavor for white and we already have Final Judgment)
Blue: Massive card draw or bouncing effect.
Black: Huge life loss effect?
Red: Mass LD, or perhaps creature switch
Green: Massive creature pump or land search?
*shrugs* My brain is dead now. Speculation for tomorrow.

Seppuku
You win the game. Commit Seppuku.
By definition, it's the last spell you will ever play.
Seriously, I highly doubt it's a "you can't play ANY MORE spells" thing. That seems too big. No other ideas, though.
