I do not believe this. The poster is fine and the mechaniac itself seems like it could happen and could be in this set but there are problems. Why did he tell you now? Why would they name it Sweep in a block all about flavor? Sweep is not very flavorful. Also the card you talked about should be green.
This mechanic sounds sort of like the mechanic on an old Visions card Infernal Harvest. As far as I know, there really aren't any other cards with a similar mechanic.
Keywording an ability that has appeared earlier in the set is not really unprecedented. For example, Darksteel Pendant could have been worded "Scry 1" if they wanted to print it in Fifth Dawn instead of Darksteel. But yea, I'd be very surprised if they added a second return-lands-to-your-hand-as-a-cost ability in the same block. It fits what we think we know about the set so far, but it just seems redundant.
Plus, I think it's been established in the past that printing of the cards takes place way before the usual rumor season, and they are usually very tight about this kind of stuff. I wouldn't be surprised if a printing employee leaking confidential information like that is grounds for immediate termination. So while it could happen, it's very suspicious. I'm not saying the original poster is lying, he just might have been fooled.

true. i volunteer for a top tier game company and stuff gets sent to printer months in advance. if anything would be leaked, it would be 9th edition stuff which is probly running to printer very soon if not already.
I hope, if this information is real, that the sweep ability won't be on instants... i'm currently trying to make block deck that works with Myojin of Infinite Rage (which is quite hard), but i can forget about making it work when the sweep returns all lands to hand.
If the mechanic would be without X... (but more like kicker)...with a set number of card you'll have to return... Sweep a Mountain (You may return a Mountain you control to it's owner's hand when you play this spell.)
Example card: Screams of Horobi :1mana::symb: Sorcery
Sweep a Swamp (You may return a Swamp you control to it's owner's hand when you play this spell.)
Target creature gets -2/-2 until end of turn.
If the sweep cost was paid, that creature gets an additional -1/-1 until end of turn.
But i hope this in not a Mechanic for SoK... is should be a block mechanic, not a set mechanic.
They have. Kicker - Return a swamp. =\
You guys seem to think that every mechanic means a new keyword. Sweep could just be the name for the mechanic, much like Gating in Planeshift.
it's plausible, but it is the season of fakes, so I'd say 50/05.

Doesn't sound too broken, and is a viable keyword, but one would think that they would make a keyword that interacted more with the themes of Kamigawa so far... and there are only a few cards right now that let you play extra lands during your turn. I'm inclined to think this isn't real, due to the fact that its flavor doesn't seem to fit with the current block. Then again, WoTC has done wierder things than this before. Until proof otherwise, id say 30/70, real/fake.
It is indeed powerful but also controlled in that you hose yourself for a few turns if you use the ability to teh max. I guess it will make blue patron, and Azusa even more popular.
However as for the credibility the story sounds pretty fishy, however about the printing of cards i thought the design happends several monts ago and teh printing was only a month or two ahead of time? If this is the case the timeing for the story is ok, but im still quite sceptical.

Printing is indeed several months ahead of release time. I don't know the exact time schedule, but I know SOK has been printed for a good time by now.

Well, just to clear some things up, the person who gave me the info only started coming to our shop about a month ago, and I had not been in there until recently, so I didn't really have a chance to talk to him when they were first in print. Also, in terms of it being a green card, like I said, he could not remember if it was situational or not (i.e. blocking creatures only etc.)
EDIT: Also, I will likely get a chance to talk to him again on Friday, so I will try to get some more concrete info at that time.

We'd appreciate it Go'!
Is it possible this guy wasn't talking about Saviors, and was instead refering to Ravinca or Guildpact? Something about this 'sweep' mechanic just doesn't add up with the abilities that we've seen so far from Kamigawa Block...
I agree with most of the posters here in that this fellow seems to be giving out info at a fishy time in rumor season, anyone can say they've worked for a printing company/mag or wherever just to seem legit, but we trust you Go'!, Any new info you can syphon out of this guy, *in specifics *would truly set the 'Mill on fire...
I'm inclined to believe it. After the super-quickness of Affinity (admittedly destroyed) and the overall fast tempo of the game, they've said that they're trying to slow everything down. I.e., for the Shoals to be useful, you have to have high cc spells in hand. Most of the playable legends have pretty high cc's and they make up a good portion of the set. Nothing would slow the game down more than having a mechanic that requires you to return lands to your hand...they're the only things that are "time regulated" by a 1-per-turn-rule. You want slow, you got slow.
Also, has anyone read the last book yet? Wizards does lots of crazy crap with sets/cards and then makes it all okay by saying it's "in flavor". The green samurai for instance. Maybe the other colors find a way to use the Soratamis' method to fight the Kami? Just speculation, of course, but look at how green was 'ignored' until Fifth Dawn and then got a bunch of useful stuff.
Returning multiple lands to your hand can be a significant disadvantage, so could be used to fuel fairly powerful effects.
Perhaps another alternative casting cost set of spells like the Shoals? "Sweep 3. (you may return 3 lands you control to your hand instead of paying ~card name~ mana cost). Thwart had an alternate cost like this (except it was 3 islands I think), and that was a hard counter, pretty strong effect.
I doubt the kicker variant will apply, but perhaps it's a mandatory additional cost like:
Glacial Blast
R1
Instant - Arcane
Sweep 2. (As an additional cost to play Glacial Blast return two lands you control to their owners hand).
Glacial Blast deals 4 damage to target creature or player.
Coincidentally this mechanic would work very nicely with Tendo Ice Bridge.
This sweep mechanic could esily be put on creatures too:
Iwamori, Risen from the loam
G3
Legendary Creature - Spirit Warrior
Sweep 3. (As an additional cost to play Iwamori, Risen from the Loam return three lands you control to their owners hand)
Trample
G: Regenerate
6/4
If it is real, then Azusa, Lost but Seeking will become much more playable.
I'm old school, about as OLD school as they get. think 4th Edition/Ice Age old school. Unfortunatley in the "Real world" you cant Incinerate your bank manager and sadly now I have joined the ranks of the older population, and my time is taken up by things like reasearching Mortgage Refinance Rates and where to get the best possible mortgage quotes. I have however discovered the joys of Online Forex Trading which at least allows me to keep the bills in check!
Glacial Blast
R1
Instant - Arcane
Sweep 2. (As an additional cost to play Glacial Blast return two lands you control to their owners hand).
Glacial Blast deals 4 damage to target creature or player.
Wow, that one would be nice!, it would be like the new Shrapnel Blast, but it would be more balanced if it could make 5 damage instead of 4, i mean Shrapnel Blast was cheaper because you sacrificed an artifact land to it, in turn 3-4 in ravager you could end the game with that. With this one you need more time.

Again, Wow, great drawback, you could get a 3G in standard in turn 2-3 but in block it you would have to wait until you get 3 lands (and be prepared to lose all your mana), great ideas...

Personally, I'd think it probably wouldn't be a keyword if they did it, but a 5 card cycle, like the Shoals. Really, though, it has a lot of elegance, and seems close enough to another mechanic in the block, the Soratami, to actually see print.
I guess that, since belgareth hasn't closed this down and r_e hasn't said no, this is still being looked at.
However, I'm waiting for a card with the ability. It seems like a simple concept, but usually those are the ones that are fake.
Things like this are harder to be proven fake.
Once something is proven, or almost surely fake, it is left open for discussion.
This is mildly vague anyway.

I don't know, it seems too much like a cross beteen the Soratami, and kickers for me. I don't see another kicker variant coming this close behind Entwine honestly.
Kicker - Return X lands to your hand
if the kicker cost was paid do X
Sweep X (Return X lands you your hand)
Do X
If it's an addition al cost of returning lands, that it would be worded as an additional cost, it just doesn't make much sence the way it was described. Just my thoughts on it.
This is an entirely belivable mechanic but i have my doubts... I guess ill say somthing constructive once the mystery mechanic is confermed

I agree with the part that it couldnt be a keyword ability, maybe an activated ability.
Maybe something like this?
XU, return X lands to your hand: Return X target creatures back to their owner's hand.
