WISDOM (= hand size counts)
As Kamigawa’s war raged on, it became clear that the road to victory wouldn’t be mindless violence – it would be wise, thoughtful violence. To reflect this the Saviors of Kamigawa-set is filled with creatures and spells that get better the more cards you have in your hand.
This magic takes different forms. Some cards, like Akki Underling, bulk up if you have seven of more cards in your hand. Others, like Kitsune Bonesetter, only care about whether you’re holding more cards then your opponent. Still more, like Soramaro, First to Dream, scale their effects based on the exact number of cards in your hand. Their strength varies with the size of your hand.
EPIC
In a realm where the creatures are legend, the spells must also be larger than life. Spells with the epic ability are so extraordinary that once you play one, you can’t play anymore spells for the rest of the game. However, each time your upkeep starts, you get another free copy of the epic spell!
I would hope that epic spells are truly powerful and even PLAYABLE in constructed, but we'll see.
If they're playable, a deck filled with channleing cards and epic cards may be doable.... (+ add cards like guerilla tactics....)
BUT, given what we know about epic, we can probably rule out them being arcane.... After all splicing isnt playing a spell, so if an epic spell was arcane, then splice could be greatly abused (similar to the reason why Final Judgment was not arcane, so that hikari+final judgment isnt abused).

I love Joboman, Poggy, Niv, and Vezok, because, while they may not be the best players, they still try to win. Having fun is the most important thing to a game, but I've learned that if you don't try to win, then you're ruining everyone else's fun.
Well, from the description of epic it itself cannot be judged as powerful or not. It will depend on the individual card whether this mechanic sinks or swims.

I can see interesting Epic decks popping up if the epic spells are playable. What about things like Quicksilver Amulet, Elvish Piper, etc. that allow you to put creatures into play? It would allow you to continue to have a game even after casting the epic spell. When Mirrodin cycles out of Standard (and with it MUC and TNN), that could be decent.
The one thing that will matter is: If the epic spell is countered, can you continue to play spells? I would assume so; otherwise, they would suck badly. Hmm...what about a U epic counterspell?
Based on the Orb results, I would say that Sweep is templated as such:
Sweep (When you play this spell, you may return X lands you control to their owner's hand.)
Target player discards X cards.
Target player draws X cards.
Target creature gets +X/+X until end of turn.
etc...

"Here only miracles. Here, only the rising of spirit. And yes, love if it was pertinent (which it was so often); and sometimes bloodletting. But never the prosaic, never the trivial. Here the man who brought the strangest tale was the most welcome. Here every excess was celebrated if it brought visions, and every vision analyzed for the hints it held to the nature of the Everlasting." - Clive Barker's Imajica

wow! so if you play an epic card, and it doesn't kill your opponet, or do something else to ensure your victory by turn 3, chances are that you are probably screwed.
there are ways to get around that little drawback, but i think that, after hearing this, panoptic mirror might get looked at for banning. why? simple, you get the epic ability, minus the drawback, as long as you keep the mirror alive (That Which was Taken would fit the bill a little nicely.).
wonder what the spells do though, i bet there is a cycle of spells relating to the 5 hondens, although suped-up versions of the Black and Green Honden's don't translate into epic spells very well (or do they? the black one would just be way too insane, while the green one translates into a ton of creature tokens, if you can find a way to make a nonbroken version of a Epic spell version of the black honden (discards cards) then please post it, my current guess has target player discarding 4-5 cards a turn!)
