Very nice, even though those have been designed in the Custom Cards forums a bajillion times. This is what Ravnica duals would look like if they really wanted to push color pairs rather than full-blown multicolor.
I don't really think I like this very much. The problem is that (for example) you can't pay WW or UU on turn 2 if you have one of these in play, which can often be a hindrance. I suppose you could if you had a Hallowed Fountain, but the point is that you can do a lot more with a Hallowed Fountain than with these guys.
That said, if they were the only option they'd be widely played.
I think I'm on board with the speculation that there will be a cycle of "different" dual lands, including this one and the "opponent life" land that was rumored last month.
But, since it's futureshifted we aren't going to see anymore, right?
As far as the land in general, I echo the comment that several people have thought up such a cycle of cards.
Since it is futureshifted, means, we might see it. Not neccesarily a given, but something to rumor over for future sets (clever move). It leaves doubt in the back of the mind and makes you draw your own conclusions based on the type of card it is.The land, and other lands like it, has a high possibility of returning in later sets imo.

The real battle is not one of power but of will.
If your confidence breaks, so too shall you." —Venser[/card]
The Friend land seems more like a rare prismatic lens. Sure its neat but its just color fix. I think they're trying to slowly cut the 3 color deck down to just 1 or 2 colors.
Fantastic, i really like these new dual lands. They are of course based on a similiar idea to the tainted lands like Tainted Peak. early-mid game they become a dual, however 1st turn they are a vanilla colorless land, i think it will show up as shocklands 5&6 but probably not as an instant 4 of.
What we're doing here is akin to taking the text of Moby Dick, locating specific words therein, rearranging them to create a passage from Fight Club, and concluding from this evidence that Tyler Durden is based on Ahab.
I realy hope that we see all the different Timeshifted Duals fleshed out into cycles over the next several sets. That way the market will be full of sturdy, good dual lands and hopefuly some of the cycles will be affordable. I also hope that they have the enemy pairs when we see the different cycles, but that might be hoping too much.
Reminds me of good dual-lands! These will never hurt you like pain-lands and wont ever come into play tapped like shocklands! Woo!
I also really really really like breaking up the symmetry of dual-lands. By having each pair do mana-fixing in slightly different ways, it makes the game more interesting (as minor advantages against each begin to appear).
Very nice. I love the art. Plus the whole name will make it fit so well into my casual U/W bird tribal type deck thing o_O. It's seriously lacking in mana fixing right now.

This land is pretty powerful but as long as we have shocklands it's outclassed. Once they rotate this should see play, hell, it may even see play right now replacing Adarkar Wastes.
I just realized. Mycoloth perfectly demonstrates the devour mechanic.

To everyone who thought up this idea before it came out:
I thought up Affinity for artifacts and lands (and extended it to other permanents, cards in hand, graveyard, rfg, etc.) before Mirrodin came out. (I called it Reduce, as it were. Thanks to blurrycloud, who by the way, is a redonculous artist.
So you can't produce colored mana with this on turn one. You can't produce two of the same color with this on turn two. You absolutely cannot risk using this in conjunction with the painlands, much less with tron.
So that leaves it out of U/W aggro skies decks which often will need to support both WW and 1U on turn two. These decks would much rather use Adarkar Wastes. Also, it's a MAJOR risk for tron decks which will rarely have more than six total lands that include basic land types.
So... if you can guarantee that you will have this land, a plains, AND an island on the table by turn three then maybe it's good for U/W non-tron control. But, with that said, we really still need shock lands to make these reliable. So this new dual style really doesn't come within a mile of replacing the Ravnica block shocks. On the contrary... it almost makes them more necessary. At least in the U/W color pair.
On the positive side though it is nice to have the choice. Shocks plus this or shocks plus the painland, depending on the deck. You decide!
Wow, I'm not sure when these lands will come out but they're really trying to push multicolour. I guess with Ravnica being the huge success that it was it'll be hard to get people back to multicolour after its departure from the Standard scene.
Reminds me of the exact moments after Invasion left T2, leaving only the Filterlands & Fetchlands for mana fixing. Even with multicoloured lands (and the Tainted Lands in Torment, still a push for an attempted multicoloured theme), people went with monocoloured decks with a splash for another colour here and there, just like when Odyssey/Onslaught were T2 legal.
Probably won't see much play if they're anything resembling the Tainted lands from Torment.

You should! I was excited when they printed the shocklands, which I had similarly thought up as a thought experiment about a year before. New, useful dual lands should always be cause for excitement.
That mockup should use a futureshifted card frame.
He's saying that, if this card is expanded to a true cycle later on, it'll be reprinted in the normal frame. Though probably at that point it wouldn't have the same (gorgeous) art, alas.

WoTC articles of late have mentioned a slight nudge away from multicolor, at least the multicolor that Ravnica enabled.
A cycle of 'new ideas for duals' is interesting for WoTC to do, as they can gauge player reactions and plan accordingly.

It makes it hard to hit double colored casting costs on turn 2 but other than that I guess it's pretty good. I can't wait to see what other lands we get.
That mockup should use a futureshifted card frame.
If you read the post, you'd see that I was waiting for the time in the distant future that it would no longer be futureshifted and would be in the normal border, so it could look as cool as this:
It will be a shame to only have these in ally colors though, but it is a nice, NICE twist on the Tainted Land cycle from torment, and if they weren't rare, I'd place them higher than the Shocklands.

This new form of dual lands sure is interesting. More limited than the Rav Dual cycle (I think), but very much fun still.

Look at my opponent play a plains on his first turn.
Drop an Island on my turn, and pass.
Look my opponent as he plays Nimbus Maze this card on turn two.
Respond by Sea's Claim on his plains.
(Yes I know it's stupid, that you should simply Claim the 'friend land'.
I'm going for the LMAO factor.)
