What exactly did they say about that holiday set? Could it be a set that's like extended+ only, not for std. This could be where all the goodies are going(duress, counterspell...).
"The release of a box set this Winter will be a must-buy. [...] no matter how experienced you are at Magic, you'll love this product. In addition to being fun for new players, this will feature nods to older sets. From a value proposition, it will be a really good deal for experienced players."
A bit off-topic, but am I the only one who is disappointed that Platinum Angel didn't get new art. I was really looking forward to seeing something new for it.
Anyways, back on-topic. I didn't really play competitively back during the Kamigawa block, so I can't say much about Twincast. But it seems pretty solid, and I could see it being put into some control decks I suppose.
Hey MaRo, I'll give you a dollar to jump over this shark. [/sarcasm]
So much for Magic
Well, if I understand correctly, this is exactly like what they did for Legends (the set) back in 1994. So, if M:tG is jumping the shark, it's been jumping that same shark for 13 years.
So, the "16th card" in Lorwyn will be a rules insert, like the one found in Legends packs, correct?
They seem to be making noise that this new card type is the real deal, not some "might as well have been a supertype" thing like tribal. Which makes me feel weird, because I've definitely been in the camp that thinks the new card type would be tribal. It does give a little more credence to the planeswalker crowd. Or, the crowd that thinks it will be something else entirely.
To fuel the new card type debate: "There is going to be a real brand-new card type in Lorwyn. It's not a subtype. [...] It'll play differently than any other card type and Wizards will be dedicating rules cards to explain what this new card type does."
I expect this means "rules cards" like the Tips and Tricks inserts in 10th boosters...
Damn, Sarnathed.
Maybe Tribal cards will be playable in ways we don't understand... or it could be Planeswalker cards, or something totally different, both of which are more likely to require rules cards.

Its a definite mind blower for one. The conspiracy indeed does raise spark to the notion that Plainswalker, Tribal or some other card is actually there and is not a hoax.
Scrye just threw a bunch of cans of worms at us. Then pointed and laughed at us as it went to go grab a camera to record the chaos that insues.

but these are good news for blue decks and for me considering i have 1 of them
"If I do go to heaven, I'll smack god across the face and tell him to get me a grilled-cheeses sandwhich and then say 'Yea what now god!? Say some'in! I dare you!' "
Can anyone see the colectors number on cyroclasm. Currious to know if there is still a spot for char.
Even in the magazine, it's really, really distorted. It starts with a 1.... I think it's 19?, the last number is really indistinguishable. If I had to make a judgment call I'd say 194, but it's hard to say.
Dream Merchant, you make several valid points about the ineffecitiveness of twincast in the wrong deck or it being used for the wrong purpose- i.e. twincasting a giant growth. But yet there are many many great uses for this wonderfull card. My favorite use of it is with Glimpse the Unthinkable which is now going to be a T2 move for the next 3 months.
You are right though, in the hands of a newb, this card will be used shamefully. In the hands of any well seasoned player, this card will be abused relentlessly.

This smacks of Force of Will or old duals or something.

Everything is true in some sense, false in some sense, meaningless in some sense, true and false in some sense, true and meaningless in some sense, false and meaningless in some sense, and true, false, and meaningless in some sense. Repeat this 666 times and you will reach enlightenment.
In some sense. The only good fnord is a dead fnord.

When Ravnica rotated in and brought Glimpse the Unthinkable, many posters were drooling over the prospects of Twinned Glimpses. The concept failed to make a mark on the environment. Twincast and Glimpse the Unthinkable are both examples of hyped-up cards which ultimately failed to accomplish anything at competitive level.
Char is not a possibility, regardless of the numbers crunch, as there's already a red rare burn spell in Beacon of Destruction.
Some interesting tidbits contained in Scrye, I am curious as to this new card type, and now a holiday box set???
That's not necessarily true, as Beacon of Destruction is part of a small cycle. They could print another rare burn spell as it is a stand alone card, also, Beacon and Char have very different applications, they'd probably not end up in the same decks, unless counter-burn rises in power again.

But isn't D-storm going out of the window with the suspected disappearance of seething song oO?
Whether or not Seething Song is in, can D-Storm survive the loss of Gigadrowse when Guildpact rotates? An article on Wizards' site noted that they'd playtested what amounted to D-Storm decks minus that card in TS development, and the deck had always underperformed because it was too vulnerable to disruption. So I think we can probably count D-storm out in the next few months regardless of whether the Song is in X.
Article also notes that there will be a holiday gift product with nods to older sets and to quote MaRo "From a Value Proposition, it will be a really good deal for experienced players"
this quote is a little confusing, and i don't see much about it. what could it mean?
a special holiday card sent out like MPR? a special art something
Its going to be some box set, hopefully packed with some old school goodness. (and some x-mas cookies) I made that last part up
Maybe some portal sexiness a la the purples with the original arts and frames.
off topic: Are FOW really going for $30? I have 2 extra just lying around.
now that would be a great way to get more grim tutors, imperial seals, etc into peoples hand who never knew they existed before
than again i still say imperial seal should be printed in a core set or a main expanstion

Currently 62/265 cards.
# 194 would mean Char is out
If it is # 195, Char would remain a possibility

Win the game despite target X burn-spell at your head.
that does not mean char is out. only when we can confirm the number of cryoclasm will it tell us if its gone for good
as to twincast i am very happy about that. i know it never saw much light during kami, but i can see a good blue/red fish deck might be coming
Twincast was hyped up when it was first released in Saviors of Kamigawa. The most notable use of the card in Constructed was to reverse an opponent's entwined Tooth and Nail into a victory for you by fetching Uyo, Silent Prophet and Mephidross Vampire, then using Uyo to copy the Tooth and Nail again to fetch Sakashima the Imposter and Triskelion.
When Ravnica rotated in and brought Glimpse the Unthinkable, many posters were drooling over the prospects of Twinned Glimpses. The concept failed to make a mark on the environment. That's totally ridiculous. 8th Edition had Searing Wind and Hammer of Bogardan. Ravnica had Char and Flame Fusillade. Invasion had Ghitu Fire and Urza's Rage. This isn't even counting cards like Inferno as burn. Why would you say something with so little basis?
