I really, really do not understand why people feel so strongly about the art either way. Where's the fire? I think that Kr@cked and Wiz (on the first page of this thread) covered the issue sufficiently: the original Birds art from Alpha wouldn't really fit in with the art of the other cards in the set, or simply isn't available, and the Edward Beard art has been removed from the core set entirely, perhaps for legal reasons. Who knows, maybe this was sudden, and they had to come up with art for Birds of Paradise quickly, so they just brought in the Ravnica birds at the last minute. Either way, not a huge deal to me, and I will certainly not be crying if I open one in a pack. I'm as Vorthos as they come, but the core set is really not a place where continuity matters. After all, Kamahl in his pre-Fist of Krosa days appears side to side with the ancient Hurkyl's Recall and the very Kamigawa Counsel of the Soratami, and I don't see anyone complaining about them. So what if the birds are flying around in a city?
Flavor aside, the impact that Birds will have in the core set this time around will doubtless be the same impact they have had on the game in the past. Quick multicolored mana and an additional evasion attacker when resources are available. I agree with rantipole that Llanowar Elves deserves a spot in the core set, however: mana acceleration for the common (and often monogreen) man. But now at least we can be assured that when Ravnica rotates out, we'll still have creatures that produce mana.

The flavortext will probably appear in the foil versions.

Well, I still think birds should have had a new art. It's the opportunity to make Birds the coolest card ever. They skipped the opportunity to make ir perfect...

Needs a new frakin' art for pete sake, this still looks like a swan, let alone a acutal bird (I am not saying swans are not birds, just maybe something more closely related to a pet that someone could have.)

Try the Greater Bird of Paradise. It's longer than the little one. The only pic on Wiki for it is also long... LONG dead. Colours might fade when you get stuffed
Meh, I agree about the art. While the new art may be fancier, I still like the old art. Maybe they felt it was too blue oriented since it shows the birds over an island on a vast sea/ocean. I guess I'm just retro like that.
I wonder if everyone that is so critical of the art work could name five Vango paintings, five works of art by micheal angelo, and five compliations of Choppin. And don't look them up on the internet! Trust me, I'll know. If you can't do that, then well you really don't warrant the title of art critic.
On topic: Don't worry birds of paridise, I still love you. No matter what you look like.
you know if youre gonna critisize someones level of art knowledge it would help if you spelled the name of the artist even remotely close to how they were supposed to be spelled. Michaelangelo is the artists last name not his full name and Van Gogh is two words (note van is not his first name I had to clarify this after the michaelangelo mishap). No one would be able to find any pictures by those guys.

Every rarity gets good cards. That means that some mythic rares will be tournament quality as will some commons, some uncommons and some rares. My promise wasn't that mythic rares wouldn't get good cards but that we wouldn't limit the good cards to only being mythic rare.
Bear this in mind the next time a powerful mythic rare is spoiled

People caring about border color strikes me as odd.
Also, Edward Beard, Jr. has cards in Ravinca.

"Stasis is impossible. Change is inevitable."
Same as there's a flower called a Bird of Paradise that also resembles the head of this bird.
This is the perfect art for it. Only drawback is that there's only one bird (that, and the city)
Point of order. This is neither a parrot or a bird of paradise. Its a freaking rainbow stork.
It looks like an ibis to me.
Oh yea, because the other two look so much more like that.
