I know, they hurt the 4cc counter (Rewind -> Discombobulate), but I'm surprised they cut Mana Leak all together, instead of replacing it with something weaker.
So in October, we will be left with only Delay and Rune Snag as 2cc counters. Sad.
RIP Remand and Mana Leak. (We knew ye, but we wish you'd stayed around longer.)
Every time people say this, the following tourney season is full of high powered blue decks that annoy everyone to no end. I'd honestly rather see Goblins again than anything like MUC.
Sculpting Steel feels out of place to me. But there are lot of inconsistencies with some of the cards there. Maybe I am stretching to find fault with this list but, until we get some kind of confirmation on this list I remain speculative and very unamused. Especially at blue. I can not point to one card in particular and expect it not there but, there is definitly something off here.
Nope I think I will just sit on this one till I get some kind of final word on this.
[card=Dismal Failure]"Two magi could trade spells all day and never crown a victor.
The real battle is not one of power but of will.
If your confidence breaks, so too shall you." —Venser[/card]
About the list itself, I don't know if it's fishy or not. There are a number of interesting cards being reprinted for the first time, but there's a lot that seem too humdrum or too strange (Head Games, really?)
And to everyone who is complaining that this Core Set doesn't push boundaries as advertised, please respond to the following:
Legends
Man-lands
An artifact that removes things from the game
Pithing Needle
Troll Ascetic
Incinerate
The one card I'm really sad to see out of the core is Leonin Skyhunter. None of the replacements really measure up

I'm not saying Blue will suck... there will always be a MUC deck around in some form in Standard. I'm just saying making control weaker will allow for more combo and aggro. (Albeit not Dragonstorm - no Seething Song) RG Aggro is already pretty dominate, moreso without Mana Leak keeping it in check.
Ok i know you are just stating your opinion and theres nothing wrong with that, but as far as i know he didnt took the time to actually search magiccards.info or gatherer, he just did looked for the missing spot and added it and if there was a number mistake he just reworked that (like pushing one down or up when the gaps where already present in the number crunch list provided).
I have nothing against this list, i have already learned not to cry fake till official spoiler release i was just explaining to hamtastic what the poster he originaly quoted may have refered to contrary to what he thought it meant.
EDit:
Again IM not saying that this info is wrong, only explaining what the poster Hamtastic quoted may have meant, and if im correct most of the cards you mentioned where the ones the OP originaly posted right? if so these are not the cards being questioned, rather the fact that the OP took the original crunch list filled in the loops (with minor changes) which means that ALL the original guesses of the number crunch were correct which seemed a little to convinient for the poster Hamtastic quoted.
Better explained now?
I think we are in agreement here, I think he just looked at hte holes, and didnt fact check, there could be quiet a few cards that are wrong on that list because we plugged in bad info or guesses.
If anyone knows why G0-DRAW was banned I would love it if they would PM me. That guy was pure entertainment 100% of the time. Plus he never publicly responded to his Contraptions "Proof" that never panned out.
I'm thinking this is incorrect based on the rarities. Why didn't that person get the new rarities for the list, too?
Because he's not our personal butler?
Not everyone lives and breathes spoilers like we do. The person in question asked what cards he could provide, someone gave him the number crunch data with gaps and he filled in the parts that were missing.
Seems nice enough to me.
I'd like a scan of the info. That would obviously seal the deal, however, if we don't get one we'll know soon enough whether or not it's legit.

MTGO Writer and Epic Time-Waster.
If you have questions about MTGO PM me, I'm all up ons, as it were.
Check out my articles on http://puremtgo.com/ I'm the nerd you see there... wait, not that one. Nope, not that one either... yeah. That one.
I'm inclined to believe this list is correct. True Believer fills the 'Shroud' need, as I believe MaRo mentioned that Shroud made Xth. Many of the other cards make tons of sense. Phage is a bit of a surprise, but I'm sure casual players will rejoice.
Rain of Tears, while a slight surprise, was already rumored.
Mirri, Cat Warrior is a little odd, but one of MaRo's recent articles rationalized Vigilance in green, so it's not so out of place after all, on that line of thinking.
I'm personally glad Goblin Piledriver is not in. Seems it would have put Gobbos a little over the top (especially with the high potential of more to come in Lorwyn).

Not sure how True Believer fills the Shroud need. True Believer gives you "shroud," it doesn't have shroud itself. So far the only Shroud card in the set is Pincher Beetles. Troll Ascetic also has a similar ability to Shroud even though you can target it.

It's actually incredibly easy to pull off a Scalpelexis win, especially against a mono-coloured deck....I used to have a blue-control deck that used it as a win-condition (it was quite good, cos my friends were in the burn deck faze..."ooh, look! 2 Mountains - looks like you're getting milled for cards 17-20!")
I mourn the loss of Silklash Spider. It was a good out against Akroma, Angel of Smackdown. I realize there is Hurricane, but if you've been hit once or twice by Akroma, Hurricaning for 6 might not help you.
Thank you! That's cool.
Just a few mistakes: Adarkar Wastes is in the first two brackets, where it shouldn't.
And Angels Feather is in the first bracket, when it shouldn't.
Fixed, thanks! Also added a few new lists comparing this list for Xth with all previous cores (See post 68)
Shatterstorm on the list is yet another affinity hoser(on top of Aura of Silence. However it's listed as uncommon and should be rare(unless they chose to demote it but at its power level I doubt it especially since it's always been rare).

Check Gatherer instead of MagicCards.info. Shatterstorm was uncommon in Revised & Fifth, not rare.

It was still a rare in 6th and it's not all that common for wizards to make an uncommon rare and then put it back down(Sengir Vampire et al anyone?) It was also originally rare in Antiquities in any case.
