Since when does Suspend care if it is a creature SPELL? Also, SPELLS can't gain haste or other abilities, at least currently.
It has cared all along. The comp rules specifically say that suspend grants haste only to creatures. If the thing didn't come into play as a creature, no haste.
This is counter-intuitive in many ways, I must say, but I guess they just did this to get rid of the confusion that will ensue if they used "Permanents played this way have haste."
Personally, I'd prefer that, though. I want my totem to attack, dammit!

That's the point -- I said it gets haste if it CIPs as critter, he said, only if it was a critter SPELL. I asked, since when it cared if it was a critter SPELL. That is, only that it becomes a critter PERMANENT

Comprehensive rules:
"If you play a creature spell this way, it gains haste until you lose control of the spell or the permanent it becomes."
