Thanks for the heads-up and info I agree that the Morningtide cover girl (har har) is Ashling.. I'm hoping that she has a worthwhile ability/capacity, I was a little disappointed with how Radha turned out. Just to me..
...The Merfolk "Merrow" have already been stated/shown to have the torso of a humaniod with the lower half of a fish. Check compiled info.
And? Check your lore, Merrows are Irish Mermaids/men, and they can, at will, switch to being Legged. Most the Lore around Merrows are based on the fact that the Female Merrows cant stand how ugly the males are of their race and coming up to the land and marrying and having families with Human males.
Just because it isnt in Compiled Info doesnt mean anything, really.
If anyone knows why G0-DRAW was banned I would love it if they would PM me. That guy was pure entertainment 100% of the time. Plus he never publicly responded to his Contraptions "Proof" that never panned out.
I fail to see the need for Merfolk to 'work' anyway. It never stopped WotC from printing other cards that don't 'work' logically over the years(for example, leaving Coral Eel in the base set during all the years that Merfolk were not printed), it was just a very poor excuse to not print more Merfolk. I kind of think the only reason they returned to printing Merfolk is that the attempts to create new iconic blue races failed miserably. Cephalids & Vedalkens just can't compare to the real thing.

Heh, when I first saw all the talk about Merrows, I thought maybe they were making that the creature type instead of Merfolk. However, I then recalled the fact that that would be pointless, given the other Merfolk that have arisen this past year, as well as the Lord himself.
Anyway, sounds awesome and very flavorful. I can't wait to see it.

LOL it's a .. well.. a springhaas It's basically a large hare (or rabbit..? I think it's more of a hare...IIRC) that's nocturnal and can jump fairly far for its size. It's incredibly cute in real life...and for some reason I can see Kithkin riding giant versions of that.

According to wikipedia, springhares are a type of rodent that is not closely related to most other kinds of rodents (i.e. classed in its own family). Rabbits and hares are lagomorphs, not rodents. So they aren't especially closely related, but just similarly shaped due to convergent evolution.
Evil elves!!!! Weeee, I loved Savra in Rav...we'll finally meet more of her ilk...and a vain ilk aren't they? (Perfects, Faultless, Immaculates etc.)
I think the boggarst will be equivalent to goblins. If you check the art on the boggart precon, the shaman kinda looks like a classic portrayal of fantasy goblins. And traditionally goblins have been under R and black.
I'm interested to see Ashling in card print...seems like the elementals are the pious race in Lorwyn (hence the ala-Da Vinci Code flavor of the Morningtide blurb)
I think Fae will be G/U too...traditional colors of fae...and i know it kinda sounds gay but finally they've finally decided to acknowledge the fae as a possible tribe. I could see quirky tribal faerie decks popping up after Lorwyn and Morningtide comes around...now, will there be a Fae Lord?

How do we call travellers that visit other worlds again .....?
It doesn't actually say she's going to travel to other worlds, it says she's being drawn by a spiritual force or such. Can't wait to find out more about the Flamekin!
I seem to remember a very popular fantasy series about creatures very much like kithkin. They were called something else though. I think they even made some movies. That was probably too much sarcasm. Sorry.
I'm sure Kithkin can be pretty interesting, as interesting as humans at least. If it is a tribal block, humans would be out of place. I don't think they would make anything that says "all humans get +1/+1" or "Tribal Enchantment - Human", or even "Destroy all Non-human creatures" though that last one could be interesting.
I really hope the tribes aren't 2 colors each. If there's a bunch of two color combinations it seems a little too much like Ravnica. Some tribes, like Merfolk, really can only be one color. I guess I can imagine a black merfolk, one that was evil or undead and lived in a swamp, but I can't see how a red, white, or green merfolk would work.
I always liked the idea that each color should have an iconic tribal race. Merfolk, Goblins, Undead, and Elves worked great for this. I never thought Soldiers worked as good as a tribe since they aren't all white and it's more of a job than a race. Multicolor is fine, but an out of color member of a tribe seems wrong. I guess I'm just a little old fashioned.
On the other side, faeries always seemed a good fit for both green and blue, so a dual color tribe might not be so bad.
Ravensect, great first summary post. I liked how you gave so much detail.
Creature type color summary:
Imp? (Boggart) - BR (impish, opposed to the white Kithkin)
Elves - GB
Faerie (Fae) - UG
Kithkin - W
Merfolk (Merrow) - UW (based on pre-con)
Elemental (Flame-Kin) - R
No oceans? Does this mean blue may be "gimped" a bit in Lowryn?
Please remember this is WotC R&D, meaning that blue is never truly gimped, and will continue to be one of the best tournament colors, no matter how much they claim they are nerfing it. And in this case, they're not even claiming to be nerfing it, just making a statement about the flavor of the world.

- Jon Finkel believes in maintaining a healthy, balanced diet. He gets all his fiber from eating Magic cards for breakfast, and all his protein from eating Magic players for lunch.
Is it just me, or does all the mention of 'evil' elves give anyone else the creeping sensation that in the latter half of the Lorwyn story arc (a.k.a the Jelly/Sandwich block) we may see something very similar to Drow elves?

I personally don't think that you have the colours quite right.
While W/U might make sense at first glance for a creature type named Fae, I think G/U might be more appropriate, as Fey ,ie) Dryad Sophisticate, creatures have traditionally been in Green's section of the colour pie.
True, but flying creatures mostly aren't in Green, so purely mechanically, White would be a better fit IMO (or maybe it's just because I've always thought Faeries felt very White, and that there are reasons other than game balance why Flying should never ever appear on a monogreen creature in sets unless they're either referencing the past like Time Spiral or deliberately messing with the pie like Planar Chaos did. I guess I feel the same way about monogreen fliers as R&D feels about reprinting Mana Drain)...
The Fae are apparently malevolent, or at least mischievous, so I'm gonna go with their race being the U/B bleed.
... But given that little bit of info, Black is also quite possible.
Secondly, U/B doesn't quite seem right for this description of the Merrow. If they're THE traders of Lorwyn, then why would they be black? Black is selfish, and no one would trade with a group so selfish that actually is pretty limited as far as trade routes go, they would simply trade overland. They sound more organized, so I'm gonna call it U/W.
Yeah, that one was a bit of a stretch, being based only on what we know of the environment of Lorwyn, and not taking into account the precon colors (which do seem to be pretty damning). Still, last time I checked, greed was still very much a black thing and not uncommon among merchants, to say the least.
But that's the great thing about guessing; you can pretty much say anything without looking bad if you turn out to be wrong.

It says it is a traveller, and that he seeks a greater force in Lorwyn. It doesn't say it is a traveller of worlds that has come to Lorwyn seeking a greater force.
No, it says the world of Lorwyn.
I think it is a fair enough observation.

Well, I think it reads more as drawn to this "greater force" rather than drawn to "the world of Lorwyn", but I'm going to have to agree that it suggests she is a Planeswalker, based on the statement that she "seeks [it] in the world of Lorwyn".
