tribal seems a tiny bit redundant with evoke in the set...isnt evoke essentially a tribal instant/sorcery?
I do not think that "Tribal" will ever be used for instants are sorceries.
Tribal uses creature types such as "Rebel." If you were to search your library for a "Rebel Instant" and put it into play, the game would get confused as spells can never be in play. Thus, Evoke seems to be a way of circumventing that by allowing a creature type onto a sorcery in a sense. Evoke + Flash could also be used to make a Tribal Instant of sorts.

Except that the Rebel searchers now talk about searching for "Rebel permanent cards". This wording allows for Tribal Instants and Sorceries without problem.

Why are so many people being so dense, ignorant, and trolly? The information is clear and obvious. Wizards told Game Buyer to inform all the Magic retailers that Lorwyn is going to be a great set, featuring planeswalkers and a subtheme of popular tribes like goblins, elves, merfolk, etc.
EDIT: Clarifying the ad slightly by removing redundant and superfluous information makes it all-to-clear what it's saying, in my opinion:
Since RancoredElf confirmed the source, all information is now true to me.
Actually, I didn't confirm anything. I can't confirm anything, because I don't have any information that isn't generally available to the public anyway. All I did was point out that zenogais is on the Rumor Mill Heroes list, which means he has provided accurate rumor info in the past.
Except that the Rebel searchers now talk about searching for "Rebel permanent cards". This wording allows for Tribal Instants and Sorceries without problem.
Yes, exactly. That's what I meant. That means that you CAN'T put a Tribal Instant or Sorcery into play with current Rebel searchers as it's not "Rebel permanent card", so there are no weird interactions.
Agreed, <3 enchantments I both loved and hated Urza's block - was so much cool enchantment interaction, but the brokeness took what I loved so much away from me quickly as if it never was.
This magazine must be obscure, I just called our local books -a-million, which is like a barnes and nobles, and they don't carry it.
It's a business to business publication for the hobby gaming industry. It's been around for a few years now, and is actually one of the most respected magazines at this time. I'm actually one of their monthly reviewers, and have been doing this for a while now.
You can't buy it in stores, but the site listed earlier is a great link to give to your friendly local game store to get them more informed about what's coming out, and how other retailers view the products coming out.
Right on!! I guess this info not only confirms that planeswalkers are in, but also, very sadly, confirms that my hopes of Lorwyn being an enchantment block have been dashed.
Wizard certainly isn't desperate for ideas to make the enchantment block. If anything, they just want to do a better job than with Mirrodin...
I just hope that they do a better job with Lorwyn than they did with Onslaught.
The fact that Evoke is the first thing we saw (instead of some sort of ham-fisted "Tap six dudes to do this" linear tribal card) makes me think and hope that the tribal structure in this block is more of a soft-peddled "each type has its own mechanical themes, as well as a small set of type-referencing cards" thing.
The most important tribe in this announcement that we haven't gotten confirmation for before is Goblins. Wonder if there will be something strong that will shake up Legacy for World Championships (not the Legacy Championships, the World Championships, which is having Legacy on day 3).

- Jon Finkel believes in maintaining a healthy, balanced diet. He gets all his fiber from eating Magic cards for breakfast, and all his protein from eating Magic players for lunch.
Planeswalker is the new card type that is awesome. Now IMO I think this thread should be locked-up the source of the information is credable and now people are just getting off topic and there are repeated posts about how "I told U so" and they are glad that the tribal vs. planeswalker debate is over.
I just hope that they do a better job with Lorwyn than they did with Onslaught.

It is almost looking like the "tribes" as they were, are going to play the same role as the guild of Ravnica, where they will provide a link between common cards, and have some mechanical significance (more mechanical than Rav since there were technically no "Orzhov" spells, for instance).
Tribal could be interesting here if playing with one creature type isn't really terribly viable, but, say, you can run black elves and access the B/G mechanic and play black Goblins and get access to the R/B one. This might be a bit too similar to Ravnica, but on the other hand it was a successful model, and the block is only 2 sets long...
Perhaps an enchantment subtheme or maybe Jelly block will be enchantment. There really has been alot of stuff pointing to an enchantment block being in standard. Specifically things like Auratog and Daybreak Coronet from TS block and Aura Graft and Nomad Mythmaker from Xth. Hell they even reprinted Rootwater Matriarch to deal with too many auras. I think we'll at least get a stong subtheme.

For anyone who wants an in depth explanation of why Tribal is a type and not a supertype, go to the may 14 ask wizards.
As for the possibility of both Tribal and Planeswalker being in the set, if Lorwyn is indeed doing a creature type matters theme similar to Onslaught, then Tribal would be a great way to differentiate it. When Maro discussed the thought process with Ravnica, he said the first thing they did after deciding to make a multicolor block was list all the things that Invasion did with its theme, and come up with a way to do the opposite (while still being multicolored). For example, Invasion Block differentiated heavily between allied/enemy colored pairs, so in Ravnica allied/enemy colors didn't matter. Invasion Block had a "the more colors, the better" attitude, so Ravnica focused on two-color pairs.
I think for Lorwyn, they'd take the same approach. Maro said that Wizards sometimes thought of Onslaught as the creature block, hence Legions. It's kind of natural that a block where creature types are a big deal has to be heavily creature-based because those are the cards with creature types. The way around that, of course, would be Tribal. That way, they could make a "creature type matters" theme without making everything creature focused. It could be less of a "creature type matters" theme and more of a "subtypes matter" theme, applying to any card.

I was looking at some cards yesterday on magicthegathering.com
And I noticed something on the Gatherer.
Has anyone else seen this or am I just really slow? Sorry if this is a little off-topic.
Seds, I know this bothers you as much as me, should there be a big thread at the top stickied and bolded that says "WE KNOW PLANESWALKERS ARE IN GATHERER!"?
I still want the Scan. Mostly because that had to be a paraphrase of what it said, and because I still need to see it with my own two beedy eyes.
If anyone knows why G0-DRAW was banned I would love it if they would PM me. That guy was pure entertainment 100% of the time. Plus he never publicly responded to his Contraptions "Proof" that never panned out.
*joins in the chanting for a new chant block*
Hey, I just made a terrible pun. Ow.
Anyways, Urza's block was by far my favorite block to date, with the enchantment subtheme a large part of that. I'm known to be paranoid, but I really hope printing Auratog followed by Mesa Enchantress wasn't just a coincidence, and that WotC finally gives us hardcore chantress-lovers some long awaited love!
Regardless, it pains me to see how close-minded people are in general. Contrary to what people tell you on an individual thread, open-mindedness is about taking in information and impartially making a decision about whether or not it seems like a possibility. Just because a known and respected mod or rumormonger comes along and says he personally believes it, or another says that in this particular instance, take an "open-minded" stance and agree with him, but in that instance, "filter out the garbage". The point is to develop your own arguments as to whether or not you think the information is credible.
As far as this source goes, there wasn't really anything more leaked than before, I was pretty set on Planeswalkers before the release of this rumor, so I see no reason why this couldn't be real. Given that, what is "leaked" in this post is also a more or less direct proof of a single faction in the most major current rumor-mill argument, and it's a piece of information that would be easy to fake and have a profound effect on the forums. In effect, there is strong motive to fabricate such a piece of information. Personally, I think it sounds plausible, especially being reported so soon after product shots were up, and it would make sense that they would be interrelated; venders have to see their product. Because of this I'd give the source the benefit of the doubt, especially as even if the information is fabricated, it's likely correct anyways.

I'm taking a simplier approach to the word "prospect". How about just the chance (prospect) of cracking open a Planeswalker?

Agreed.
While I barely played during that block, I don't really relish the thought.
Now, may I ask again:
WHEN ARE WE GETTING AN ENCHANTMENT BLOCK?!?!
It seems to me as if WoTC is giving up on the viability of the concept entirely.

Do we have any reason to believe that Jelly isn't an Enchantment block?

And Onslaught was a tribal block.
I am talking about 'Enchantment block done correctly'. I am well aware of Saga's 'focus' on enchantments.
