First off I apologize if this is already spoiled in a post I overlooked.
On this site it details part of the hand outs at the Grand Melee that will be held at GenCon. Shown is what each player gets. The playmat that is shown demonstrates what appears to be green Lorwyn elves trying to lasso/line bolo (a la Gullliver) or shoot with arrows a red(?) aligned giant in a Lorwyn forest type setting.
I must say, these elves look awesome. It is nice to see some variety for once. I like horned elves Even if this block turns out to be crap it will definately be a favorite art wise for me.
Could it be possible "Grand Melee" is the cardname as well?
It would fit with the notion that Lorwyn is multiplayer-friendly
grand melee
I don't think this is a card they'd reprint so quickly except for a core set.
and I've never heard that Lorwyn is multiplayer friendly. Though I don't read every post in speculation.
That looks like 20 Angelina Jolies attacking a Giant, pretty coolness.
I guess from what we see here the elves are some sort of Matriarchy system, kinda like Amazons... Wonder what the men get up to, so far no male Elf pics.
I love the style of this block very much. I hope it won't be too crappy.

hey i have managed to evolve my axolotls by feeding them thyroid glands the thyroxine contained in these gland is enough to change these water dwelling creatures into land based creatures

Tay, that's not evolution. It's metamorphosis. Evolution means descent with heritable modification – individuals cannot evolve, unless they're Pokemon.

I'm confused... did Wizards already tell us that Lorwyn was a miniature world? Did I miss or forget that? Is that why no one is excited by the implication of this art?
The Giant is as big as the tree. The Elves are just taller than grass blades.

The antlered elf at the BG precon is a male.
I see that it is done in similar composition like the last year's Mox Pearl art prize, and again by Volkan Baga. I wonder whether the next three years will bring the rest of the original five Moxen.

The only one that seems distinctively female is in the bottom left. None have any cleavage or other outstanding female traits. If anything they are androgynous. The one hanging just under the Famories crotch seems to have a bit of cleavage. I think alot of these elves are actually male.
It is oversized.
They have been doing the alternate art stuff for most of the vintage tournaments, it is nothing new.
Also, even if the prize was a real card with the new alternate art, it would be legitimate -- the Reserved List only prohibits reprints in sets with unlimited distribution, not reprints for unique, limited-edition promo cards.

I think if you look at the perspective, the elves are taller than the diameter of the trunk of the fallen tree the giant is stepping on by 2 or 2.5 times.
Its kinda hard to tell cause there is nothing to compare against but I think that the elves are normal size and the fallen tree and giant are just really big. I suppose it is possible for the elves to be smaller though, they (horned elves) are a new to magic.

Yes. Honestly, I'm a bit confused though... I suspected for a while now that they are re-commisioning new arts for all the original P9 this way. But...why did they skip the Sapphire?
See below mock-ups...technically, we're due for a new art for Mox Sapphire, not Mox Jet. (WUBRG) I wonder what's up?
Sweet art! Yeah, we've seen it before, but not as clear. That's quite the battle going on there. Those trees remind me of some that we've seen in past sets, I think around the Saga era. Fat stubby trunks and big bushy canopies.
..no one is excited by the implication of this art? The Giant is as big as the tree. The Elves are just taller than grass blades.
Please don't troll. Everyone can see the elves are about a quarter the height of the giant, which makes sense because they're probably 1/1 and he's probably at least 4/4. It's comments like this that should just be deleted. I'd do that, if 5 people hadn't already responded to your post, driving the thread off-topic.
It kind of looks like the scenes in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (the Peter Jackson film, not the book) in which the oliphaunts are getting pulled down in the Battle of Pelennor Fields.

really i think the look of the tree is just supposed to represent the pure scale of the giant, not tell us the elves are tiny by any means. I doubt they'd be smaller than Kithkin, who by their very nature and stature are dwarven.
i wonder if it against their hippie beleifs to eat something or if they are short on food and have to go canibal and eat the giant. i can see the card looking something like this.

??!?!?!?!?!
What? I'm not trolling! I'm just drowning in doubt that I'm the only one even suggesting that Lorwyn is a miniature world.
I posted something in the thread with the land art, too. The Mountain and Swamp art are part of one canvas - when you see the whole canvas, the Mountain is just a bunch of rocks next to a puddle that's supposed to be a Swamp.
And look again at the art here with the giant. See how they've cleverly worked it to deny you a way to get perspective? You can't see the feet of the elves in front, nor the two archers. The "giant" is no help, but you can look at the Elf going to leap the tree. He's only as tall as the diameter of the trunk.
Now, we can get a sense of the height of the tree because we can see the roots and the top branches. From your experience with trees, you can imagine how wide the trunk is, and that's not very much. The Elves are rather short. Okay, not quite as short as my first mistake, but dangit, they're short!

It might be a reprint. Frozen Solid was in Scourge, and was reprinted for Coldsnap. I know I read somewhere that the Scourge printing was allegedly the reprint in accordance with the 'mysterious lost Ice Age set' thing, but still. It's possible.

I don't see it. The blades of grass at the feet of the second elf from the left look to me like they're in "normal" proportion, for example.

No, it has nothing to do with Lorwyn. Read this article by Brian David-Marshall and you'll see that the Grand Melee is an event being held at Gen Con.

You mean that tree? Personal experience is no standard in a world of magic.
Actually I love the art, what's the name of that elf weapon wich they throw rocks with?
