Great find. The artwork has a nice new feel to it but at the same time feels like old school magic art(all fantasy style without any of the more recent sci-fi bent).
I like it. I think variety is important, and a range of different, shifting (over time) styles should be represented in Magic art.

I dislike the legs of the Fae. But I hope that this set won't let me down, good cards i hope, nice art it is.

hey i have managed to evolve my axolotls by feeding them thyroid glands the thyroxine contained in these gland is enough to change these water dwelling creatures into land based creatures

Tay, that's not evolution. It's metamorphosis. Evolution means descent with heritable modification – individuals cannot evolve, unless they're Pokemon.

Cartoonish art aside, remember its just the 1st part of the whole block, the dusk side might be grimmer for veteran tastes. The art may look cutesy in some level but remember magic had this kind of art in its earlier sets, (Foglio arts), although I felt like some of them didnt fit in. With the Lorwyn art it feels more D&D (original) and that maybe what their aiming for. The kithkins faces resemble halflings a LOT.
The firm grasp of Magic identity of the past blocks... and the uberly rich design values of the Ravnica block. I wonder when they'll go visit magic art and flavor again as they were great.
Just looking at the kithkins and the giants and makes me roll my eyes and sigh at WoTC's seemingly desperate attempt to dampen WoW's spreading influence... I know change is inevitable, and it is needed for a franchise to stay new and interesting. But this direction.... is just so downhill from what i expected. (tis' like... "Hey peeps! we now have those elements too! /lure *)
Dumb Giants, Anorexic Elves, Simic-fied Elementals... and to think that i've come close to accept even a bit of the Planeswalker change this is just so so. I'm just holding on to the fact that i've been following the franchise one year shy of a decade...

I fail to see how Lorwyn is "for 10 year old kids". Just because it doesn't have a post-apocalyptic, sci-fi, "mage punk" bend to it? I, for one, can only deal with some many Mirrodins and Ravnicas before I just want a good ol' fashion fantasy setting.
You got me all wrong. I'm for traditional fantasy all the way, but from what I see this is not traditional fantasy. Lorwyn may still prove me wrong, but right now, from the art I saw it gives me a Harry Potter meets Pokemon feeling.
Anyway, that's just me, anyone is entitled to an opinion.

Banner and avatar by the one and only Craven at Epic graphics. Check them out.
Loving the art. I particularly like that Lorwyn, unlike Time Spiral, actually evokes an honest-to-god setting and not just "oh look, more apocalyptic wasteland".
MaRo mentions the Onslaught card Airdrop Condor in his article today...that is a creature with a (tribal) Fling effect, so it seems like the art may be connected.
Hmmn, I want somemore Boggart art. Oh well. The kithkin are awesome so far, maybe a little pokemonie, but they feel new (at least these arts). I don't really like the giants, they seem a bit, well, wow. The flamekin are cool, though I would like to have seen them more like Ravnica flamekins. The fae are interesting and hopefully will return to what faeries are really like, mischeivous little bastards that hoard gold under mountians and kidnap children. Again, pity there isn't any new boggart art.
I personnally could give a cr@!* about the majoity of the tribes, but the minor tribes interest me. Lik the dude hat "tosser" (*s*******) is holding and the 'frog' guys from the Lorwyn wall at Gencon. Elementals will be fun to toy with, I've been needing a non-combo aggro deck that looks pretty.
Lastly, I agree. Lorwyn art is good because it gives us a break, even a short one, from "Oh Noes The World Is At Teh End!"
did anyone else notice that if the fae is atacking a giant, then that faerie is human size. Lets here is for super-size faeries and midget people of Lorwyn!
The art is very nice, with the Kithkin pic taking the cake for me. It actually got me to wonder if they actually found reminder text for Banding.
Re: the art 'controversy', it's pretty clear that Lorwyn, as we surmised a while ago, actually goes much further back in the 'fantasy inspiration' than most anything else. Specifically, it is reaching back to the British Isles and its fae inspirations. The reason it looks Tolkienesque is mainly due to the fact that their inspiration springs from the same source.
Think 'Faerie Queene' by Spenser, etc.
Personally, I think it all fits together quite neatly.

It can be a matter of perspective - the fae is closer to us, than the giant. By the way, it's probably my favorite art of the bunch.
It seems that Lorwyn don't have humans, after all...
Back to the cliche 'Big = Dumb' are we? I don't like the giant artwork at all. Overall, though, I like the artwork of the set. Hopefully giants are just a minor tribe and don't ruin too many red cards for me.
The last Kithkin art reminds me a bit of Emblem of the Warmind what with the magical sigil glowing in the cards color above (or in this case in front of) the creatures head and the multiple creatures...
Though Warminds Art really doesn't fit the Lorwyn setting...

On one hand, I really enjoy the way Lorwyn appears to be a brand new world for Magic to visit, aesthetically. On the other hand, it veers dangerously close to campy for my tastes so far. Hopefully, once we see more artwork for the Elementals, we'll have a broader range of pieces of art to judge the set by, since Shriekmaw & that flame-kin girl are far and above my favourites so far.
PLEASE let that faerie be a Fae, and not those ridiculous alligator things!!! If so, Fae are definitely my favorite race, if not yet in mechanics, certainly in flavor and in art. Although the giant in the background detracts a little bit from the awesome, that's probably the 2nd piece of Lorwyn art I've actually seen and liked (the first being the stone Ox thing).
Its good that not everybody unanimously likes this artwork. Creativity requires risk. If wotc went out of their way to please everyone and eliminate risk, we really would be worse off for it.

GENERATION 3.78: The first time you see this, add it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation
Right. The quality of the art is high, as is to be expected of Wotc lately, but the whole Lorwyn thing is getting really annoying. Magic should not be a game for 10 year old kids (not saying those shouldn't also play it), but for all ages. This looks underwhelming. Even Shriekmaw that's supposed to be a Fear causing, death-dealing elemental, looks like an ornamented parrot.
To be fair - I'd have to disagree on Shriekmaw - it looks bizarre, alien and interesting yet completely out of this world in appearance - which is reminiscent of the style of horror one of the master's H.P. Lovecraft used.
Creatures from Yig-styled.
As for dumb oafish giants - giants are dumb and oafish in most mythos - its always been strange for Magic to be one of the few cases against it. (EQ being the other)
I'm gonna hate reading about how everyone dislikes Lorwyn art so much all season. You people have no imagination. It's way past due that Magic moves away from "mage punk" (I don't even like the term). The detail they've created in this world is already staggering and we've only seen a few pieces. I'm also glad to see Wayne Reynolds tearin' it up. They should've given him a front seat a long time ago as he is easily one of D&D's best.
The first picture looks so much like fling, I'm having a hard time believing it is just a bloodshot cyclops variant. Possibly a fling variant, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was a reprint.

The kithkin pic make me lol. The idea of such tiny guys bristling with weapons just giggles me.
I hope the Giant pic is Fling. It would make my Pandemonium deck playable in tournaments. Gargadon is too expensive and time consuming but Phyrexian Soulgorger is just right.
Does a "smart giant" image require him sitting down with an enormous cup of wine reading an enormous book in an enormous shop of similar giants discussing the intricacies of giant literature?
It's easy to quickly label giant art as giants being big and dumb, but I don't know that any of the giants in these images are shining stupidity.
The first giant (Fling-o) is wearing crafted jewelery, clothing, and has his hair and beard tied off neatly. The second (Nose-o) uses the common image of a faerie being a nuisance to a giant, as common an image as any portraying these creatures; it isn't that he's being outsmarted by it. The third giant (Flame-o, although he could just as easily be a burly blacksmith with small flame-kins) is also wearing a tunic and has put the elementals in an appropriate cage; one that they cannot burn their way out of. The fourth one (Bird-o) is probably the dumbest-looking of the bunch, but at least he is sharpening his axe on a wheel rather than the big rock behind him. In regards to the bird on his head, how often do humans have insects that they don't notice?
Magic art is magic art. I honestly never liked much of any of it short of a select few and Rebecca Guay stuff. I'll always liked Yu-gi-oh art better (Yeah, bring it on!!)
What I'm interested in, is whether that's fling or not. Or Sweet dark lord, let that be fling. That card is my heart, and I'd just love to fling things around, total hotness.
I see both sides though, it would be pehaps too nasty with stuff like Gargadon and Fatal Frenzy and all that. But c'mon it's not like Gargadon is thaaaaat easy to get out. They should let you do something cool like that when you pull him out.
And hell, Wiz's does tend to reprint stuff they made promos of. It's probably just Wishful thinking, but daaaamn I'd love to see Fling back.

What makes the giants look dumb? Cruel, sure.
But they grind axes, cage elementals, and wear some amounts of clothing.
