"Shriekmaw" is #139/301. In Time Spiral, #139/301 was Urborg Syphon-Mage. If Shriekmaw had been in Time Spiral, it would be #128.5, between Sengir Nosferatu and Skittering Monstrosity. Therefore, Lorwyn will probably have considerably fewer multicolor and/or artifact and/or nonbasic land cards than Time Spiral (TS had 12 gold cards, 21 artifacts, and 13 nonbasic lands).

I believe this, but I do want to echo some of the issues. This is not much more than a tweak of Kicker/Channel/the unnamed Squealing Devil mechanic. Yes, it requires playing the spell and you get the "I came into play and left play" Johnniness. Yes, it's a fine modal option with lots of limited and/or constructed potential for good design. But it's nothing more than a "choice" mechanic they've pretty much done already a thousand ways. My guess is that this is in no way the signature mechanic of the set; it's certainly not the one we'll be talking about for 4 years. That'll be the new card type.
EDIT: Extra point! You can reverse Evoke by creating permanents with leaves-play effects, and then paying more to get their spell effect right away instead of waiting until it dies normally.
OMG.
Here's hoping we get an indestructible creature with evoke and a leaves-play trigger.
As for the art: It looks like a Gila monster or gecko... It's a shame it isn't an Elemental Lizard or something, but the fact that it isn't might mean that Evoke is specific to Elemental creatures or something.
This looks believable, and if not it's one hell of a fake, down to the last detail. also, if it is true, that means it's a 301 card set with more color cards then multi/art/lands.

How fun is it to be an evil cousin?!?:evillol::evillol:
I see where you're coming from, especailly with the 'feathered' design on the torso. However, I've got to disagree
This, combined with the artwork generally accepted to be from Lorwyn thus far, really reminds me of a very pastoral setting. The 'Maw's art only adds a sort of 'unreal' aspect to it, almost a thin vein of psychedelia.
That, in addition to the Kithkin, reminds me of The Gnome, actually.

To be fair, all this really is is the echo-mechanic combined with comes-into-play creatures... but without the blocking.
As for the mechanic - Personally, I think this *IS* the mechanic we'll be talking about for a long time. It's so simple, and yet so powerful. And yet - unlike kicker - so flavorful.
Envoke works with:
Creatures/perminants coming into play abilities.
Spells you play abilities.
"Whenever you envoke an X" abilities.
And it's counterable... meaning WOTC hasn't just "nixed" blue for no reason...
The mechanic on Shriekmaw* is "Evoke" -- not "Envoke". "Invoke" is a word, in Magic and in real life English. It's not the same as "Evoke", though it's close.

No,lets not have more Darksteel Colossus type annoyance.
Anything thats indestructible dosen't need a leave play ability.Their suppose to be hard to get rid of,no one should be punished for doing it.As is blue has the easiest time dealing with it,white & black are so/so and red & green are boned against it.
Im not a rules guru,but i don't think you can sac it to anything else.If i remember correctly sac'ing dosen't use the stack,like mana abilities,it just happens.But if im wrong,im wrong,no biggie.

We'll likely still see "Tribal Sorcery" and "Tribal Instant".
This isn't a fix for that. This is "Channel" from Saviors of Kamigawa revisited
You do realize the complete redundancy of having creatures with sorcery-like effects and sorceries with creature types, right?
It is utterly pointless.
So yes, another nail in the 'tribal' coffin.

limited bomb, also a way to make instants and sorceries have creature types instead of just permanents with tribal. This means we can have evreythin g be a creture:o, just like legions:-/...

Except for the pandemonium interaction, the fact that it requires the spell to be able to be played as a creature as well, and numerous other interactions.
Just look at Champions block. Had we had Tribal then, we would have likely seen Tribal Instant - Spirit instead of Instant - Arcane.
Shriekmaw is something that cannot be done with the Tribal mechanic. "Tribal" has nothing to do with allowing a 187 creature to be played as a pseudo-sorcery. Apples and Oranges. It's almost like Kicker in reverse.
Tribal may or may not be in the set. I wasn't trying to comment on that, actually. I was speaking as in "We'll see Tribal Sorcery/Instant someday."
Is this card 100% confirmed? It seems believable enough, but as far as I can tell the only person who has seen Shriekmaw is the guy from the Wizards board who posted the scan.

Really? What would that add to the game?
"Look, I cast my Goblinfire to deal 2 damage to one of your creatures... for the low, low cost of 1R... because it's a goblin. It costs less with warchief out and doesn't have haste... oh, wait, shock... yeah, my bad."
I understand that some spells are "typically cast" by certain creatures... but tribal is counter-intuitive, annoying, and would add absolutely nothing to any block unless the design team turned creature types into something like onslaughts' cycling-triggers. But then again, why not just play creatures... so, again, the tribal does nothing to add to design space.
And no, this is not channel. But darned close. Indeed, I wouldn't doubt "spiritcraft" returning in some way this block...

Dude. This is the Shriekmaw discussion thread, not the New-card-type discussion thread. Chill, and move along.
As had been said before...if you're going to call Evoke just Channel with a new twist...then I'll go ahead and say:
"Wow, look at card X! Its just a new twist of Kicker!"
"Jeez, what's the big deal?! Hybrid is just a new twist of gold!"
"What's the big deal about Magic?! Its just like normal playing cards, but with prettier pictures!"
Keep 'em up guys. You guys make me laugh.

That leaves room for a maximum of 46 'other cards' (artifacts, gold cards, new card-types), likely a couple less.

This one's not that shabby. 3/2 for 5 with fear is pretty good, and the Terror ability is sure sweet.

Unlike Channel, it does work with Pandemonium.

How that creature passes for an elemental, though, is beyond me.
