It's about time to add my part to the confusion. This morning I found a letter shoved under my door. A strangely familiar feminine handwriting gave me the following:
Immaculate Magistrate3G
Creature - Elf Shaman
T:Put a +1/+1 counter on target creature for each Elf you control.
2/2
RARE
Elvish Promenade3G
Tribal Sorcery - Elf
Put a 1/1 green elf warrior creature token into play for each elf you control
UNCOMMON
[Update] Wren's Run Vanquisher1G
Creature - Elf Warrior
As an additional cost to play Wren's Run Vanquisher, reveal an elf card from your hand or pay 3
Deathtouch

UNCOMMON
and my personal favorite:
HUNTER of Eyeblights3BB
Creature -Elf Assassin
When Hunter of Eyeblights comes into play, put a +1/+1 counter on target creature you don't control. 2B,T: destroy target creature with a counter on it.
3/3

Well, color me impressed. Still not so much for standard, but Elves are always a casual favorite and the pump effect is going to be good for a permanent +2/+2 at worst.
The permanent Timberwatch elf is strong. Though since it relies on having creatures in play, it makes it weaker due to Damnation, as a casual card it's definitely top-notch.
The other card reminds me of Beacon of Creation...except, again, extremely vulnerable to *** effects.
Hunter is back in the game:cool:! Better go fast, Hydro has a big lead and its nearly halftime:p.
These look good, if only the token genrator was a common:rolleyes:
I have 2 elves in play, play token generator with rings of bright hearth for 6 more, another with the rings for another 34. Next turn: Swing for 42:cool:(What?, I like overkill:p)

The token generator is a sorcery and not an ability, you want Mirari.
The + counters elf is pretty decent. The best creature in the old Elf decks from Onslaught were the ones that cost 3 and gave +X/+X equal to number of elves, this costs one more but the effect is permenant as opposed to eot. Maybe this will see play, even so, it is a very expensive Grizzly Bear.
The other card is laughable, it is very much the definition of 'win more'.
Great to see you Hunter bro, packing the goods like nobody's business! Both of these are very cool cards, nice tease for some of the elvish goodness we're going to see in [LOR]
Now that's what I'm talking about, where's brother Bel and R_E to revel in the elvish glory?

it may be an expensive grizzly bear, but you could always target it with its ability to mae it bigger (and hopefully keep it from getting burned to death)
So the prodigal son returns. Wiser then whence he left.
Perma counters on a target creature sounds very cool. By the time you get this out in a tribal deck, there should already be 4 or so elves on the field by then. Good Stuff
Tribal Sorcery a win more card but also a, stop me before I Overrun you card. Also very good.
Two perfect elf cards that has connection and maintains power with all the other elves.
[card=Dismal Failure]"Two magi could trade spells all day and never crown a victor.
The real battle is not one of power but of will.
If your confidence breaks, so too shall you." —Venser[/card]
The problem with these cards is we really haven't seen anything elf-wise that stops you from being completely bowled over by mass removal. Both of these cards require a pretty hefty comittment to the board, and in return they give you... a heftier comittment to the board. The second does seem good with the elf lord who taps to make more elves, both because of the pump, and the more elves to leach off of. It also seems good with Llanawar Mentor to set up multiple elves.

Glad to hear one from you Hunter. The magistrate looks a bit too costly for his body, but at least in limited it's ability will be monstrous. The elf sorcery, on the other hand looks nasty. First thing that came to my mind was Empty the warrens for elves.

So a timmy move could be this:
turn 1: Forest tap for Llanowar Elves. Hand size is five.
turn 2: Lay forest tapping two forest and L. Elves to play Imperious Perfect or Elvish Champion. Hand size is four.
turn 3: Lay a land tapping all mana sources to drop Immaculate Magistrate. Hand size is three.
turn 4: Lay a land make an elf token using Imperious Perfect. Play Elvish promenade getting 4 more elves. Use Immaculate Magistrate to give an elf +8/+8 counters. Hand size is two. You have 5 Untapped elf tokens (one of which is a 10/10 the rest are 2/2s), 1 tapped L. Elf, 1 tapped Imperious Perfect, and 1 tapped Immaculate Magistrate. Total damage on the field for turn five swinging with all of your creatures= 25. Total damage on the field for turn five swinging with everything but the Magistrate to pump= 30. Total damage on the field for turn five swinging with everything but the Magistrate to pump playing another elf= 31.
I like to let my timmy roam. To be competitive though we need to be able to play Gaddock Teeg and saffi for the protection against wrath and such. Still I'm thinking that elves will be a strong tribe to contend with.
EDIT----> Heh, Can I throw Essence Warden in there?? Seriously?!? That's just fun. I really want to play an elf standard deck that can compete. Now all I need is a black or green elf card with an ability that allows me to return an elf card from my graveyard to my hand. Then the real shenanigans can begin!
I hear a lot of people saying "Cool but it loses to damnation etc." While that may hold in T2, they have stated that they are cutting back on the mass removal options in Lorwyn block, precisely because of how mass removal ran against the tribal focus of Onslaught. So as far as Lorwyn Block Constructed is concerned, mass removal need to be as huge of a concern as it might normally be.

You'll have to have at least 4 Elves in play for this to have any good effect. If you have less then it's weak, if you have more then you were probably winning anyways. Not a very good card in my opinion.

Pity. Teeg would have protected the elves from Damnation and *** with a splash either way - but the promenade would be locked out... and it is a good card.

Sometimes "innovation" means "stealing another's secret before anyone else can."
And Brother Hunter has entered the Rumormongering rink again! Cheer!
Immaculate Magistrate---the new Timberwatch Elf, with a more permanent effect!---can be a real house in Limited if you draft a decent number of elves. It must be taken care of quickly or it will win the game over a few turns.
Elvish Promenade, which basically doubles your Elves, makes a lot of sense because Mark Rosewater has written in several of his columns about how he pushed hard for Doubling Season over several blocks despite it getting rejected, and now that it has been accepted, he is trying to put doubling in every block now.

At least its rarity means it won't show up all too often in draft and completely dominate the way Timberwatch Elves did.
