Chandra is the worst of the Planeswalkers so far. Her abilities are pretty weak. A weak ping, a fancy and slow Cone of Flame(expensive removal, which can't even target players), and you have to wait two turns for her only worthy ability. The other two at least make a meaningful impact on the game the turn they come out. Oh well, some of them had to be bad.
The treefolk is for limited, but the indestructibility might push it into tournament-constructed worthy depending on the other treefolk. Also, it makes the forests indestructible; could that be a strictly flavorful ability tacked on, or will there be some good land destruction in this or the next block?
All of these are at least solid:
Gaddock shuts down U/W control and impairs all other types of control.
The Protector dude is a Treefolk, which are G/W/B, nice abusablity with Wrath and Damnation. Also, he's sidebord tech against control or Land Destruction.
Chandra is just, WOW. Loyalty increasing damage, higher loyalty than cmc, good creature removal, and a game winning ability (you are playing red after all, their below 10 on turn 7 ;)).
I'm starting to see why wizards think Planeswalkers will enable non-tribal decks, and why they're needed. Power creep much?
Gaddock will have to fundamentally change the way current control decks function. T2 is essentially the last block format + T2 and Llorwyn. The most popular decks in the last block (I am a little out of touch, but I believe this is correct) I U/B control, Aggro Red, GW aggro, and Wild Pair combo. U/B control and pair combo at present both essentially scoop to this card. You can no longer tutor up your favorite kill spell to deal with him, and the only kill spells they ran more than one of both cost 4. And to people spouting about how red can burn him out, I dont understand why it matters? How many red decks in the past have depended on non-creature spells that cost 4 or more to cast? This card is freaking awesome. It wont single handedly destroy control, but it will weaken sweepers which will fundamentally change the way many control decks play. Also, hes a beating verse many combo decks. How can you not think hes good?
And to those saying chandra is the best planeswalker, I think you are underestimating lillian vess. 5 mana for at least one demonic tutor is a lot, but 5 mana for 2 is cheap, and 5 mana for 3 and your opponent discarding a card is freaking awesome. Lillian is gonna be a real powerhouse in control...if control can survive gaddock....

no we have one reason why Lions wasnt reprinted. But guys lets not get over ourselves Teeg doesnt hose creatures over 4. But good nonetheless me wants a playset.
This thread is full of idiots... Lightning Bolt is NOT being reprinted.
Many times has a writer in Wizards said so, because of the plain and simple fact that it's too powerful for what it costs. x/3 creatures shouldn't be able to die at instant speed for one mana without a signifigant drawback. (like PTE giving you a land)
I absolutely guarantee that LB will not be printed in M10, and you can quote me on that.
Yea, who plays meddling mage naming swords of plowshares?
This guy like meddling mage isn't exactly the best type 2 card but it may see play in combo heavy decks as it has really good disruption with bear beats.
I can't imagine anybody naming swords of plowshares. Personally I would name swords to plowshares. (Sorry, but if you're going to try and be cute you should probably double check the spelling of the card.)
Gaddock Teeg is an absolute nuisance. A very good card, and an entertaining batch of cards all around. Yes, he will be burned away as fast as you can put him on the table. However, that does mean that your opponent will now have one fewer spell to get rid of Tarmogoyf, or Quirion Dryad, etc.
Treefolk (the race) may very well prove to be a limited powerhouse. As has already been mentioned, the lord (although rare) provides an enormously durable board position for the treefolk player. Treefolk in Magic are generally going to be durable on their own. Giving them abilities and spells that make them more so, can make them fairly viable option.
As for Chandra, I don't know that I like that she essentially can gain loyalty by removing an opponents' loyalty to their own planeswalker. At her absolute worst she's 5 mana for 6 sorcery-speed damage to a creature. Until I play with and against Planeswalkers, I'm not going to be sure what I think of them.
A good opening batch of cards for Wizards to keep people's interest.
Did anyone else catch MaRo's reference to AaFo's "Old Uncle Fester" portion of a previous article? I'm really starting to think, between that little reference, and a couple of other MaRo hints (including the naming of the five MAJOR tribes as Merfolk, Goblins, Elementals, Elves, and Kithkin) that goblins in this set will be "nearly" mono-black. Think about it...if we have five major tribes..we have to have one for each color. MaRo mentions that most of the "elementals" are going to focus around the Flamekin..so that makes Elementals the "red" race. Merfolk obviously blue. Kithkin obviously white. Elves, obviously, predominantly green. That leaves Goblins as the predominantly BLACK race. That's how we can have goblins in this set and not completely overpower Goblins as a deck choice in Extended, etc. Craziness..but I think that'll be the case.
I really don't see why people are gushing over Teeg. I definitely think that he is tournament-worthy, but the "OMG NO DAMNATION/***" people are delusional. As has been mentioned already, Damnation decks typically run Terror effects. Any form of UW control will have bounce.
So? The point is that he's practically time walk against control. Since they have to remove him before wrathing, they'll be spending mana on that spell, which effectivley delays ***/damnation, not to mention the fact that control can't keep hands that have soley wrath effects+signets/mind stone and rely on wrecking with 3rd turn ***. It will completley re-evaluate how control looks at their hand before they keep it. Aside from which, one of the (or perhaps the) most popular spot removal is currently Tendrils of Corruption, which costs 4, btw. And he's really good if you resolve him in legacy/vintage aginst storm combo, since their kill cards (tendrils of agony, empty the warrens) are unplayable because of him. He'll probably see play in eternal sideboards just because of this. Oh, and he own's all the planeswalkers we've seen so far.
Come to think of it, so do all of the Future Sight duals... so I guess it could be any of those.
According to rumors, Horizon Canopy isn't going to happen, since the block after lorwyn is supposed to have art where you're small and everything else is big (canopy, edge of autunm) and have a cycling theme. (again, same cards.) Cairns seems likley, and burnwillows is also rumored, plus it looks like some of the artwork we've seen in lorwyn (super colorful).
I've pretty much stated my opinion on geed. (see above)
The indestructible treefolk is pretty good. Bomb in limited, and judging from what i've seen so far, it looks like he'll be good in block, because it's impossible to lose creatures in combat, and it's obviously a creature-based block.
Chandra is terrible. Five mana for six damage to a creature isn't even close to enough. If I'm going to paythat much mana, I'll just play shivan meteor, and it dosen't see any play. Pinging your opponent is a total waste of time for a planeswalker, and since you can attack planeswalkers, she'll just die (and 3rr: "deal 1 damage to target player" seems sub par to me.). And while she'll be able to do a lot if she gets up to 8 loyalty, since shes a control card, she won't kill when you use her, and if you only have 8 loyalty, you will lose your win-condition. Probably good in limited, since she's removal (though she'll probably die the turn after you play her unless you have an already winning board position, or your opponent has a terrible one.), it's still not totally amazing. If she could just ping creatures with her first ability, she'd be SOOOOOOO much better. Oh well.
How many people will be out there building decks for a Turn 4 Furnace of Wrath, Turn 5 Chandra, Turn 6 (try to stay alive) Turn 7 win? I just don't see Chandra as anything other than amazing in Limited - but you never know - her mechanics may seem weak on their own but probably combo well with other cards in the environment (besides furnace of wrath).
And as far as Teeg, black already has "terror"-like effects on creatures such as Shriekmaw, which will no doubt see some play. Even white will have some non-land-killer answer, as Maro said, and I'm willing to bet it's less than 4 mana cost.
Kickass! Aggressively costed, and stops opponents from casting wrath, therefore allowing you to extend more freely without fear of getting wrathed away. He needs his own removal spell to allow wrathing, so at least 1 for 1, amazing card. Propably one of the cards to make impact in extented as well.
More wrath defense? Well, to be honest treefolks will need it. They are expensive, and defensive so they really need to have something so they can stand up against other decks. If dedicated treefolk becomes an option, this will be pretty good card in it.
Bleh, how is it possible that red, independent color gets a planeswalker with 6! Loyalty? Quess that it's for balance issues though. This cards is simply nuts, however, as she needs to be answered in two turns, or then it's boom. Potential finisher in both aggro and control.

I really don't see why people are gushing over Teeg.
He's a strong tempo effect against control decks and a strong weenie in his own right. You can run him in GW aggro without sacrificing anything to get the effect, while forcing your opponent to draw their attention towards him over your other threats, or find huge parts of their hand unusable.

Wait - they're real? You're not kidding me? I'm not laughing...
Man I think I picked a good time to stop playing Magic. Gaddock looks totally unfun to play against. It's a good thing Incinerate is still playable against him but still - most unfun effect in the game.
And Chandra - OK that's fun. Even I have to admit that. And if you keep her alive three turns, it's a freakin barbeque.... Can't go wrong with that.
Timber Protector looks like another unfun card. And not at a restrictive cost either. If Treefolk are good enough - having to double wrath to get out of a situation is possibly THE ugliest thing I ever thought about....

If they get out a double of him, even double Wrath won't stop it - they lock each other down at that point.
I foresee a black "target player sacrifices all creatures they control and you lose 1 life for each sacrificed creature" card showing up.
IIRC, we've already been told that Lorwyn will have cards for team play. So I'm guessing that the resource introduced in Unglued will be either your teammates' life (Get a Life) or their creatures (Organ Harvest).
Gaddock Teeg- A powerful spell. I would expect him to see some play, at least in sideboards. That said, Wizards has been printing a considerable amount of cheap, solid removal recently, and I doubt his 2/2 body will be long for the world. Even then, though, he has some power behind him.
Timber Protector- I think we found ourselves the Timmy tribe. This guy seems kind of strong in limited and really fun in casual, but if this guy makes a standard-worthy deck, I will be rather shocked.
Chandra- Hmm. If you're into casual red, she seems pretty cool. That said, her high mana cost keeps her from being very competitive, in my opinion. Also, I am a bit sad to see that her abilities only involve burn- there's more to Red than that (although Wizards still needs to get red some more Pie, stat...). Also, I'm not sure I get why she has six loyalty aside from function reasons. It just seems like loyalty would be pretty low in Red, but who knows.

Yodafan: Official pro of one of Magic’s most casual formats.
What kills Gaddock Teeg? A standard color by color analysis.
Black: Terror, Deathmark, Sudden Death, Cruel Edict, Nekrataal... okay, there's plenty.
Red: Incinerate, Shock, Sudden Shock, Rift Bolt, yeah, lots.
Blue: Unsummon, Wipe Away, and countering it before it hits. It gets a little trickier here.
Green: What, you want to Wrath? You've got creatures!
White: Porphyry Nodes and Magus of the Disk. That's about it. You might get it attacking you, and if then, you could Condemn it, but I wouldn't be attacking with this guy if you've got two plains and four mana facing you. As a side note, playing this guy alongside Magus of the Disk would be a good way of having the Magus survive to untap.
This guy is the perfect headliner for a creature based set. Wrath, the tried and tested weapon against creatures, can't be played.
I'm sure I've missed more than a few. I'm not looking to name 'em all. You could use Gaze of Justice were you in a pinch.

I'd take that bet with you. Those lands are boring and narrow. It's not impossible, certainly, but... ugh. Future Sight showed R&D can do so much better (and I'd really prefer to see any one of those cycles completed.)

The Treefolk looks more fun than anything... a solid timmy card.
