Wow, Deathrender is nuts. It create an infinite loop with Enduring Renewable with any sac outlet.
Enduring Renewal and Deathrender giveinfinate sac targets.... Stack deathrender, then the renewal.. it goes back to your hand, and comes right back out again...
Thanks Hydro:D!
Deathrender is Teh' Sheez, looks like we get more combo enablers, 3 So far:cool:.
Battle Mastery is fun, but not exatcly playable:-/.
These Merfolk sound fun, but not too strong.
Deathrender is quite cool, but could be one of those cards that looks better than it is. Remember that, assuming you play it on turn 4 and equip it on turn 5, you won't be swinging with the creature you put into play until turn 6. Still, it's +2/+2, and sticks around after your creatures die (hopefully putting new ones into play), so I wouldn't be surprised if it saw play in Block or Standard.
Doublestrike is a potent ability to be sure, but Battle Mastery is still an aura you put on your own dudes, and is thus card disadvantage until you start swining with the creature. I'd rather have Fireshrieker. As far as I can recall, the postive auras that have seen recent constructed play either recur or replace themselves. This, unfortunately, does neither.
As others have said, for the sake of Merfolk, I hope the 1-drop isn't just Reef Shaman or a functional reprint. A 1/1 with the ability seems the most obvious, but it could also have another ability Hydro is keeping secret. Nice manafixing for limited, whether or not it'll be playable in constructed.
Finally, the Tradewind Merfolk guy sounds sweet. By "an incredibly reasonable price", I wonder if Hydro is referring to the cost of the card or the cost of the ability. Either way, with the whole "Merfolk tapping machine" deal, it sounds like a great fit.
i'm sad that the equip isn't any cheaper than warhammer. troll really needs a good sword/jitte replacement for type 2. although i suppose at 3 and 2 it'd be a bit good since the only way to get rid of troll is to wrath it, and that just leads to a 7/7 hellkite to the face or something of that nature.
If Giant Solifuge weren't rotating out of Standard as Lorwyn rotates in, I'd posit that Deathrender would actually see play. (A hasty, 6/3 trampling shoruded monster? I'd take that!) As things are, it's definitely a solid limited card, potentially even a bomb, but not much more than that.
Deathrender is a nice twist on "reanimation" tricks. Normally we see this "super haste" trick from red, but an artifact means we will definately see this seeing some play. I love how nicely it will work with the "unplayable" Greater Elementals and as an After Wrath trick. I wish I would have had that back in the "Greater Good/Kami dragon" days!

The others are, IMHO, fairly "meh."
Equip targets, it doesn't work with shroud.
Fake Edit: Actually, I'm guessing you're talking about putting Solifuge, in which case Solifuge would indeed be quite nice with Deathrender.
Also, hey Ajax, I remember you from the MPFG boards a while back. I'm Spiritmongrel over there.
Deathrender + Deadwood Treefolk is actually a pretty cool combo. Treefolk dies, return a guy, put it into play. I believe that's how it works if you stack it the right way. Never mind it takes two cards, three turns, and 12 mana, discounting other effects (or playing the Treefolk through Deathrender).
Deathrender and Greater Good seems stupid strong, but extended seems too fast for such shenanigans.

That's cool. I like the Deathrender + Nantuko Husk + Gravedigger(x2) for infinite power Husk as well.
i'm just thinking... playing force of savagery with deathrender would keep him alive right? groundbreaker equipped with deathrender then end of turn force...
i'm just thinking... playing force of savagery with deathrender would keep him alive right? groundbreaker equipped with deathrender then end of turn force...
GENIUS! Except that it means you're putting Force of Savagery into your deck.
Still, I like it. Seriously.
if there were some cards that sac to draw a card and do damage OR a enchantmant that when card goes into graveyard do damage .. and you had card that said draw a card I think that would be good cynergy.. Thimnk the approach is not to sac a small for a big.. but to keep using this as a free spell...
Imaging playing this once , but with blue draw+abilities to have this go off multiple times per turn , doing danage or alerting. When card leaves play draw a card ; play gix(for sac life ability), use your jace to draw a card.. play acard to draw 3 cards;, I haven't looked at cards to see where the synergies are but there has to be a way to almost get a storm like effect here to just do massive damage for little mana, even using cards to untap or create multiple mana per land .. think this possibility this brings to be a engine for card cycling is huge..tutors to get this out or any other card.. will it be competive maybe someone will make it, but sure seems fun enough for causal.,
i like this with brion strongarm...sac a ddude, do damage, gain life get a new dude.seems strong. of course that means you have to run this equipment, and normally you would be ok with just that giant anyway...
oh, him and the hamletback, fling a guy, put hamletback into play as an 8/8... fling hamletback after playing another dude? that's a lot of fling.
I mean, hamletback and this equipment seem both kidna bad for constructed, but that would be a FUN deck for a kitchen table... oh, and with the giant lord that gives +2/+2, means you fling for 10 damage ... two hamletbacks and you win the game outright!
The artifact is yet another bomb that I can't wait to try and pull. of course knowing my luck I'll get the jayamede tome of the set...same as every other stinking booster I buy...everyone else pulls foil rares, I get 13 commons and 2 lands
(okay, maybe not that bad, but still...)

Eh, Battle Mastery has it's uses but in terms of the ability the card is vulnerable and weak.
The only comparison I need to make is with Fireshrieker which doesn't offer the potential of a 2 for 1. Yeah, it costs + :2mana:, but it can be played in any deck.
I think a doublestriking aura will have it's value in limited, though. There are many, many creatures that really shouldn't have doublestrike.

Excited for M13 Limited? What do you think the format will look like? Head over to the limited forum and let us know what you think.
I think you're wrong about that - this says "put into play attached to XX" which doesn't target.
When I said it doesn't work, I was talking about the normal equip ability, i.e., "X: Attach ~ to target creature", which doesn't work with shroud. I then realized Ajax was probably talking about the other ability, which does get around shroud.

Troll Ascetic would like a word with you. In fact, the troll would love to have either card attached to it.
Deathrender seems incredibly strong for any deck that can afford to keep an extra threat in hand, and is especially useful with guys with evasion or CITP triggers. If you manage to equip it once it basically means you always keep a threat on the board as long as you have a creature card in hand.
If it weren't for the steep casting cost and anti-synnergy with Momentary Blink, I'd be tempted to play Deathrender in U/W Blink, as it usually fulfills all the requirements to actually abuse the card. Unfortunately it's quite difficult for Blink decks to commit 4-6 mana during their own turn unless it's really late-game, and by then the ability is considerably weaker. It's a nice way to cheat a Bogardan Hellkite into play, though.
I'm really excited about the Tradewind Rider merfolk, especially if the ability does not require to have other merfolk in play. Even then, it'd provide mono-blue or U/W control an important board/tempo control element. U/W control is nearly top-of-the-line as it is; providing a tempo-lock in addition to everything else seems really nice indeed.

People hiss and grunt at Mark Rosewater for the state of the game. Few realize, though, that it is Aaron Forsythe who is directly responsible of the current state of affairs due to negligence as head of Magic R&D and a completely skewed view of the game as a whole.
So next time you want to make an avvy with Rosewater pissing on something, take a deep breath and consider pasting Forsythe's face there instead...
hey i have managed to evolve my axolotls by feeding them thyroid glands the thyroxine contained in these gland is enough to change these water dwelling creatures into land based creatures

Evil is boring. The universe is friendly. Life is on your side. Joy is your birthright. Cynicism is idiotic. Fear is a bad habit. Despair is lazy. In fact, all of creation wants you to succeed. Act as if the universe is a prodigious miracle created for your amusement and illumination. Assume that secret helpers are working behind the scenes to assist you in turning into the gorgeous masterpiece you were born to be. . . Life always gives you exactly what you need, exactly when you need it.
