You forget... Wizards didn't write that Article. Inquest wrote it based on info WOTC passed along to them. Obviously WOTC didn't mention the Harbinger.
Nothing to forget - I didn't know it was an Inquest article in the first place. I assumed the info came from the tribal summary on Wizards' site a few days ago, without rechecking it.
Again on the tree, the 3/3 for 1 is not, itself, unreasonable. Bear in mind that it's only a 3/3 once Doran hits, which if you drop this instead of a bird on turn 1, won't be until turn 3, the same time you could bring out Nessian Courser. They seem to be doing a really good job with making the Treefolk highly synergistic with one another, more so than with the other tribes we've seen (Elves, for instance, care about having other Elves around, but are pretty indifferent to the identity of said Elves; Treefolk want specific other Treefolk around to play with).
Turn 1 -> Forest, Birds of Paradise.
Turn 2 -> Land, Doran.
Turn 3 -> Swing for 5. Play a land, cast Garruk, untap 2 lands. Cast Tarmogoyf. (Overrun is available next turn.)
These cards are all incredibly synergistic with each other. I love it. And into the mix we throw the treefolk Harbinger, which is basically a 3/3 for G, given that he can fetch Doran, and plays right into the turbo-aggro theme as both a tutor and a beater (and even mana fixing in a pinch!).
What the hell? What's the point of playing Tarmogoyf in this setup? A 0/1 for 2 mana is HORRIBLE, it's not gonna do anything for you...:-/
Tidal Courier was just an answer to the Merrow tutor. Now that we have a Goblin one, it pushes the power level of Goblin Ringleader significantly in Extended, as you're now capable of running eight Goblin Matrons across two colors, with only a single colored mana in each cost. Adding black to those Goblin decks could be feasible if any good Goblin reanimators show up, as you could run Cabal Therapy and Duress in addition to your Goblins for disruptive purposes. Sure, they aren't Goblins, but my point is that the last thing Goblins needed in any larger format is the ability to access eight tutor effects, one of which can then potentially hunt for a Tidings on legs.
Agreed.
Goblin-Bidding was/is a classic deck type in the Onslaught days. Its viable just as any other goblin deck. Plus you have more options available to you if you splash black instead of mono-red.
So yeah R/B Gobos is very pheasable. The goblin harbringer is yet another awsome 2/1 that fetches goblins to the top of your deck. I hadn't commented on it before now but, now that I have, I must say it is a good one.

K, no one else seems to have noticed this, but the elemental harbringer is insane. You play him, tutor up the 10/2 trample, and then use him to Champion it into play. Then when Nova Hunter gets killed? Whoops, look who's jumping back into play! And tutoring up another 10/2 trample! Hope you have lots of removal!

I noticed that, but I didn't notice the fact that after it died, it tutored it up again. Good call.
Disruptable with removal for when the Nova Hunter is on the stack, sure, but as you said they better have it ready.
I still haven't added these to the spoiler, because I am waiting to see if this information is trustworthy and/or accurate.

Glad you called it. Not being a mod... it seems the rest of us are a little shy about calling something fake. BUT unless these cards are JUST very NARROW to a few decks, they will be in everything. It doesn't seem that is what Lorwyn is trying to be.
Even the dual lands are powerful, but encourage tribal deck-building. If the tutors become utility cards outside tribal... feels wrong.

Good call. The Giant one has no real point - if you still need to tutor for a creature at turn five, your deck is too slow. By comparison, the new elemental one can be used turn one to search up a mana-producer, which you can then use to power out beaters. And the treefolk one can be used turn one to get Doran, which turns it into a 1-mana 3/3.

They call me Hadoken 'cause I'm down-right fierce.
Strange, this means that the cycle isn't just one for each color since we have the name Merrow Harbinger confirmed in Rei Nakazawa's article earlier this week
I hope it won't be white though.

hey i have managed to evolve my axolotls by feeding them thyroid glands the thyroxine contained in these gland is enough to change these water dwelling creatures into land based creatures

Tay, that's not evolution. It's metamorphosis. Evolution means descent with heritable modification – individuals cannot evolve, unless they're Pokemon.

If these are the real names, then I definitly call fake. I think wizards would come up with a better name than "boggart harbinger". I think they would try to weave in more flavor. Like "boggart matron" or "giant childwatcher" (not that these names would be very good either, but then again, I'm not on the wizards naming commitee).
These names sound like they would when they where being tested in the ffl. It's like calling a 1 2/2 goblin, "Goblin bear". Instead of "boggart rager".
We have the Harbingers confirmed by the 'tribe' posters...so if anything is 100% real in this thread it is their names.
I am still waiting to see how completely accurate these cards are before adding them to the spoiler, but rest assured, all the tribes get 1 Harbinger, as shown by the posters showing all the cards that belong to each tribe. (Merrow, Giants, Kithkin so far seen)

Goblin Harbinger 2b
Creature – Goblin Warrior
When Goblin Harbinger comes into play, search your library for a Goblin card and reveal it, then shuffle your library and put it on top of your library.
2/1
This could be played side by side with goblin matron in a black splash legacy goblins, I love how wotc are far too scared to make any goblins in red anymore that are even semi decent.
Except Matron puts it into youor hand... and this just sucks.
msun: Knives scoop ice cream.
Highroller: No they don't, knives don't scoop. Spoons scoop.
msun: Well, knives SHOULD scoop icecream.
Highroller: We have spoons that do it. Moreover, the shape of a knife that would scoop ice cream would make it horrible for performing the functions of a knife.
msun: Highroller, you bring up spoons as though they were the utensil used for scooping ice cream.
I can confirm I have 'seen' these cards mentioned. And yes, the Elemental tutor is definetly R ... & 1/1, I think we have the art for it somewhere... .
Because both the Merrow and Treefolk Harbinger arts published in Nakazawa's article have the same visual style - a creature holding glowing flame and/or bubbles in their hands, I daresay that this is the art for the Flamekin Harbinger:

Actually.. the treefolk harbinger + stampeding wildebeasts is great fun for a casual deck. Hit 6 mana or so and drop two treefolk every turn (great with battlewand oak). Don't forget you can fetch lignify, rootgrapple or nameless inversion... Fun fun for G a turn.

" yep, its all fun and games til' someone gets eaten"
Those harbringer cards could be useful in combo with clash
I was thinking about that yesterday. it would be even better to combo (atleast some of them) with the (white) hideaway land(s). I think it would be reasonable to assume that I could get 3 creatures attacking at the lates turn 4 which would mean that I could play any spell I had a harbinger for... (like one of those extremly expensiv treefolks (3 attackers turn 4... 3 indestructible attackers turn 4...) or elementals)
