We already have a neo duress. It does the same thing as your card, but without the 2 damage, and one extra B, and you don't have to reveal a goblin.
Here's another thing they might print in Lorwyn:
Canceldrain 1UU
Uncommon
Counter target spell. At the beginning of your next main phase, add X to your mana pool, where X is that spell's converted mana cost.
It's almost like Mana Drain, but that extra 1 means few people will want to play it.

You're missing the point of Duress. The effect is really pretty mediocre; the entire point of that card is the casting cost. It's the Savannah Lions of discard spells.

But, at the same time, Savannah Lions was not reprinted so cards like the Kithkin 2/2 for one could be printed, and Stone Rain was not printed so that more flexibility could be had with land destruction for red. Shatter wasn't printed because it has had several 'strictly better' versions printed as of late.
This core set did quite a bit of shuffling around for 'staple' effects, so it isn't too far out to say that this 'Duress' shouldn't exist with Distress as it's comparison.
i'm not sure i buy this explanation. there are always discard spells and the core needed to show this ability. however that does not mean that a strickly better card would not be printed in another set. especially since distress is not playable, its a showcase card.
ok, im back. nope, no confirmation yet. and i wonยดt be able to get it any time before saturday ( which will probably be too late, for this card will be already spoiled or
corrected )
As for the power level of the card, im going to quote myself and my contact:
me: "che ***** , ya que viste el spoiler completo, cual te parecio la carta mas zarpada, el kithkin 2/2 g/w?"
ENGLISH:
me: "yo *****, since you have seen the complete spoiler, which card do you think is the best? the kithking g/w 2/2 guy?"
then he told me about the duress. For him, it is the best card in the set. [ i dont know if thats a good thing ]
And i remembered somo more info that i dont know if it has been spoiled:
-A giant that makes giant spell cost less ( maybe 2 less )
I think that most of us want a card like this so badly that we're willing to believe it no matter what.
Perhaps people have learned to be politely quiet with their suspicions after falling flat on their faces about Goatnapper.
Really, this card is realistic enough, there's not much discussion would yield. For now, all we can do is say "thanks for the info" and await confirmation. If it is hoax, that is has to be less gratifying than a furor of debate between true-believers and naysayers.:p
I have to say that if this card is real- which would be amazing, it will not be the new extirpate. This card is solid gold. At the penalty of 2 life you can target creatures too. Shock-Duress with a benefit is pretty awesome. And, even if it isn't the replacement for Duress right now- it will be when duress rotates. Not to mention the type 2 meta that it will affect. Tarmorack FTW- seriously.

actully its a tarmorack deck i'm thinking of, 4 of this, 4 extripate, 4 funeral charm, 4 rack, some black removal (or the green destroy non treefolk) 4 goyf, 4 dauthi slayer, 4 damnation, and 4 stupor likely, with 1 or 2 slots up for grabs, prob 2 or 3 mirri(black one) a very very powerful deck

mainly because there are cards that can be far too devestating to the deck. also being able to gut a deck of important things is very important.
the deck currently exists in my head, so i would have to play around with it, maybe it would be only 3, but extirpate is such a devestaing card to your oppenent no matter what deck they are running, especially if i get to choice some of the cards hiting the 'yard

It is definately true that Neo-Duress and extirpate work well together. I'd say three of, as Goyf will get huge no matter what- solely because he is goyf. Not to mention you will be playing plenty more discard like stupor to put stuff in the yard. Dont you worry about goyf- he always gets it done.

the two best creatures in vintage right now are quirion dryad and protean hulk. if you duress opponent turn 1 and they are holding, [land, mox, mox, flash, flash, hulk] youd really like to be taking their creature.
Gat has a hard time winning if they dont get an early creature. otherwise theyre just cycling through their deck for no real reason. being able to duress dryad turn 1, is certainly worth 2 life.
neo-duress, as currently spoiled, will effectively replace old duress.
You are 100% correct. This will replace Duress in Vintage, and certainly in Legacy. Being able to pay two life to take anything but land is a small cost to allow you to take the biggest threat someone has in their hand no matter what deck they are playing. Combo Decks will start using it, as taking a Dryad is good, but taking a Meddling Mage can allow you to win turn 2 if you can't go off turn 1.
Neo Duress is needed and i cant see how it is busted for all purposes its a good card for black decks to pack and keeps combo decks in check. From design point iits very well built as well as when 2 life would matter as in the late game discard is useless and the card is prolly better than duress as it can knock out creatures if u are facing something like zoo.
This would be more likely used by Combo Decks, at least in the Eternal Formats first, then followed to the Control and Aggro Control.
Anyway, I see that Wizards is really pushing the power with creatures this time, so I guess it's fine that the other card types got some sort of a boost. *shrug*
This card wouldn't surprise me at all. This set is putting a large weight of power on creatures, and some of these creatures can be dropped turn 2 in Standard, turn 1 in Extended, with devastating effects against control decks. This card single handedly gives Control Strategy in Standard and Extended a chance to not succomb to an early drop like that new Kithkin Legend.
This card will be printed. I would however, normally expect an answer card to be printed in set following what it is answering, but uniless they don't print it in this set, the early part of this years Extended Season will have no major control decks that would be viable.

The people who are spoiling cards are either wizards employees, printer employees, or card shop owners who got their stuff early. No one besides wizards employees would have seen the complete spoiler.
If the info on this is true we now have Lorwyns contribution to Vintage/Legacy. The 2 life lost is paltry to what this card can do this may even replace Duress or go hand in hand with it.
This thread is full of idiots... Lightning Bolt is NOT being reprinted.
Many times has a writer in Wizards said so, because of the plain and simple fact that it's too powerful for what it costs. x/3 creatures shouldn't be able to die at instant speed for one mana without a signifigant drawback. (like PTE giving you a land)
I absolutely guarantee that LB will not be printed in M10, and you can quote me on that.
Neo-Duress makes sense in being able to hit creatures because this is a creature block...
But on the other hand...
Remember how they reprinted Terror in Mirrodin precisely BECAUSE Mirrodin was an artifact block and it made card evaluation of Terror very interesting in limited because Terror was a lot worse than in most limited formats because the drawback got much bigger with so many artifacts in the set?
Neo-Duress, on the other hand, is the opposite case. It is just ridiculously good, not just in limited, but even more in Constructed.
Maybe like the neo-Mana Drain, the original poster's source has the mana cost wrong, and it costs more than just a B?

Actually, this might sound funny, but i dont like the neo-duress my self.
Donยดt get me wrong, it is a great card ( or might be, if correct ) but i personally, prefer it to be different, or at least, not rare, so i sure hope im wrong on that one.
The deal is very simple. Here down south, magic is a very, very, VERY expensive game.
you get your precons at around the equivalent of 55 U$s a piece. so, important and expensive cards are VERY expensive too. take estripate ( 50-55$ ), Damnation ( 60-70$) and my personal favorite, Tarmoguy ( 70-80$ ). So, here, in our current metagame, a card such as this, in a rare slot will very easily climb up to 40$ minimum very fast.
A chase rare to say the least. so i truly hope this is uncommon ( for the sake of my budget play )
opening a Moonlance on a 18$ booster is, well..... you get the idea..... [it happened to me ]
i like the card and hope its real. i think it would be uncommon considering you'd have to pay 2 life and the origanal duress costed you only B and it was common. im still waiting for hydro's conformation but my fingers are crossed.

I certainly hope this card is real, ext combos have been getting out of hand IMO, and the more tools we are given to slow them down the better. It seems appropriate at uncommon, considering the life cost, and it's predecessor's common status. * torturedsouls keep their fingers' crossed.

It's a double-edged sword. It does help disrupt comboes, but it also helps combo decks protect themselves by disrupting disruption.

Yeah, exactly... did you not notice Duress already being played in almost every combo deck outside of Standard? This helps them as much as or more than it hurts them.

Celebrating 3 years of open-minded acceptance, indispensable help, great advice, and incalculably-creative deck-design... Thanks for all the magic!
While netdecking and testing VileHorror i thought about Biorhythm. Sure its really expensive, off-color and crappy but still you're always the one with creatures while playing VH. That made me think.
to avoid misundestandings, when i said equilvalent to u$s i ment ( or tried to ) that, while that number is in pesos, it would be like as if you, on the states, buy a precon at 55$.
and yes, 1 U$s = 3.15 pesos ( at the moment )
