This card is pretty good if you ask me. The ability is properly costed, although it might be too high for constructed. It kills legendary creatures as an extra. By the time you hit 6 mana, you or your opponent can already play your finishers, it might be good to mirror your opponent or put another threat on your side. But since it is quite dependent on the quality of creatures in play, this isn't really effective against faster decks where you'll probably get a subpar creature for 6 mana.
I am loving this card more and more, and this guy can be so great.
Imagine it, copying Primalcrux or 'Thresher and bashing face with uber-fattness.....
OR is your having some problems with the great faerie menace you can copy their best faerie save a Mistbind (unless you have another Faerie to champion, which by all means go ahead) Copying Sower turn after turn can be a pain in the arse in a limited format or as an interesting quirk in casual.
Hmm, could be a bomb in limited maybe. As far as constructed goes, not sure it will see much play unless something comes to light that we haven't see yet.
And yes, Overbeing's prerelease are is great. I'm gonna be really sad that I won't be able to go get one.
A reusable Clone at 6 mana and a land is perfectly costed. Any lower and the spell becomes ridiculous.
I like Spitting Image a lot. This is a retrace spell that I would love to have as a 2-3 of in the deck. This is due to the fact that once I curve out every land becomes another threat. I don't think that Sower of Temptation + Spitting Image is a casual combo. Rather I find that to be a powerful lock against most decks. Being in U/G I find that a turn 3 Overbeing of Myth into a turn four Spitting Image on the Myth to be a strong play. But I need to see if that would be competitive. I do see spitting image seeing play in a few decks as again either as a two of or three of.
was really hoping for a mimeofacture with retrace... ahh well....
actually splitting image really isn't that great. I might pick up a play set if I can get one for less than a dollar.

I hope they reprint Mudhole in ALA or else retrace might get out of hand

As for Spitting Image, I'm sure someone will manage to make a powerful deck with it. If nothing else, it's a decent way to get rid of legendary creatures.

Wow! I haven't seen a card with Drew Tucker art in ages. That's pretty cool.
He has done a handful in the last few sets actually, but sadly they have all sort of sucked. This one feels a lot more like the Tucker I used to love in The Dark.
Without Retrace, Spitting Image may actually cost just 4cc, a la Clone (They're essentially the same anyway). 6cc is a bit a lot, but it's okay enough if you can last long enough to play it turn after turn.
Also, these high-costing Retrace spells are more proofs that Wizards DEFINITELY goofed up on Raven's Crime.
Spitting Image costs an outrageous amount of mana. I might actually suggest putting the actual fatty you intend to copy into your deck rather than Spitting Image. Of course, you may always hope to take advantage of the Retrace but then you'd be wasting even more deck slots on late game cards (Spitting Image + cards you want to copy). I don't see that as a wise choice. Your best bet is hoping your opponent has something valuable up for grabs. This is card is still way less fun to play than it looks.
Spitting Image: I think this card has serious Limited potential. Turning every one of your topdecks into a potential creature is so huge, and especially with Shadowmoor Limited being a "slow" format at the time- if Eventide does not dramatiically shift this, then being able to replicate the best creature on the table for 6 mana is probably just fine. This card is made to win the long game and so needing 6 mana to cast it isn't likely the most difficult thing to have once it "comes online". I'm sure making extra copies of Outrage Shaman is going to win you the game the longer it goes on.
You guys are out of your minds if you think Spitting Image is junk. Put it this way - what would it feel like if you are sitting there with Archon of Justice in your hand, but your opponent has Spitting Image in their graveyard? Kinda makes your guy look less playable, doesn't it? ESPECIALLY if you're losing.
Retrace is a powerful mechanic, and I think that a lot of people here are underestimating it. It's essentially card advantage without being card advantage. IMHO, it's the second best retrace card past Raven's Crime.
The great thing about Retrace is the versatility. If you have three different Retrace cards in your graveyard, and you draw a land, you just drew a four way split card. One is a land, and the rest are Retraced.
I made a GU card in the card creation forums that did the same thing, although without retrace.
As for Spitting Image itself, it will totally find a home in my doubling season deck.
Wow, Spitting Image is one hell of a card just got one nice rare. It should go good with any decent CITP creature ability. I don't know how persist works with tokens so it might not work well there.
I am petitioning for the removal of mythic rarity. Sig this to join the cause!

The flavor text, AND art, for all the new cards shown utterly suck. Ron Spencer should give it up.
Spitting Image (besides having terrible art/flavor text) is really good.

Because, you know, Heat Shimmer copies one creature for one turn, while Image copies unlimited number of creatures for unlimited number of turns. Duh.

that is resistant to targeted removal.
This essetially means that every land in your deck is a creature, meaning that you will have so much gas that unless they can Faerie Trickery or otherwize remove it, they lose. meanwhile, you can just hoard a bunch of threats and and destroy them if they do. Or just draw another one!
