I could even see this guy replacing Broodmate Dragon in Jund decks...a cheaper, easier mana cost, a bigger body....
the mana cost and stats aren't why Jund runs BMD. it's the fact that it takes a sweeper or two removal spells to totally deal with him. this guy eats one terminate and it's over.
it is worth mentioning that cascading into this off a Bit Blast is kinda nice, but i'm not sure about totally replacing double dragon.
This card is terrible. If it wasn't a demon then maybe it would be okay even with the reverse Plat Angel effect. But since it is a demon, Baneslayer Angel stops all day long.
how many times must it be said? you're playing black!!!!
sheesh, i give up.
Or Xathrid Demon? Defiler of Souls? Hell, at that stage you could probably make that horrible Demon Tribal deck some of us always wanted to make.... *cough*
I love how well he fits into the demon tribe. He's the ugly cousin that everyone else likes to eat.
Honestly, we'll see if this gets some constructed play or not. It's a matter of someone spending the time trying to make it viable. MBC in standard could come back!
I would think they would both apply. Admittedly, my knowledge of timestamps is limited. But I would think you have two seperate effects - just because you can't lose the game doesn't mean you also can't win the game...
If you had both in play at the same time, nothing would happen, ever.
Which means neither of you can win, and neither of you can lose. As in, you both could be at -100 with no cards in the library and the game would still go on.
The whole "This card is unplayable because this ONE CARD is better than it" argument is...so...overdone. BSA is better than most creatures in Standard. Do people still play creatures? YES. More than ever.
That argument is getting as tired as "It dies to removal" and "This is the new Tarmogoyf".
People should stop using Baneslayer because Malakir Bloodwitch blocks it all day long. True story.
And people are going to mis use it just like they misuse baneslayer.
This thing pretty much only works in midrange. Just like baneslayer.
It is not a control finisher, it is not a rush down beater, it is not worth accelerating into. It is a midrange beater.
I beg to disagree, David Price's deadguy red would kill you with Lava Hounds or Rathi Dragon, both of which are 4cc. 4cc is THE cost for the aggro finisher (also, the shroud, haste, trample spider that I cannot remember).
That said, it oughta be tested in Jund. Cascading into these guy after a Bituminous blast ought to make for some really fun combat phases.

I know the perfect guy for the third faction:
"When you show up to the Mirrodin Besieged Prerelease, you'll be asked to choose a faction: Mirran, Phyrexian, or Jaded A-Hole" Aaron Forsythe, on Twitter
Everything changes, nothing remains without a change - Buddha
Just a small aside, I always found the combination of flying and trample on one card weird. How can a creature stomp another into the ground while being aloft in the air at the same time?
I always saw it as a mentality thing. Your average creature will stop when something else tries to attack it and fight back (Baneslayer being blocked by a Welkin Tern). A creature with trample takes a single (powerful) swipe at them and keeps on going (this demon bowling past Baneslayer to deal his 1 damage).
You can always play a really casual yet sadistic deck which mills/discards your opponent's cards. With this dude in play they can't lose because they have no cards in their deck. They'll just have to sit there and watch till you get that removal or bounce.
My, my, my... well, this is very, very aggressive. In a deck w/ board sweepers & burn, this will hurt. I think I'll put 4 in a black/red extended deck w/ cards like Smallpox & Fling.
Oh, I will get rid of it @ the right time, and losing it will hurt you more than me.
Hope it's a sleeper early on so I can get a place set relatively early & have a few left over to trade.
Emmara is like the worst parts of Legends and Homelands got pregnant, aborted the fetus, tossed it in the trashcan, set it on fire and wrapped the corpse in a Dragon's Maze pack wrapper.
Fantastic card. Quite excited for the prerelease, and for when the preordered booster box comes in. But I'd love an official ruling on Platinum Angel/Abyssal Persecutor.
Deadguy Ale deck? Does it come in a growler?
I've kinda been wondering though, I thought you couldn't go to negative numbers in life total.
Yep, you can.
"107.1b Most of the time, the _Magic_ game uses only positive numbers and zero. You can't choose a negative number, deal negative damage, gain negative life, and so on. However, it's possible for a game value, such as a creature's power, to be less than zero."
"12/1/2004 You can concede a game while Platinum Angel on the battlefield. A concession causes you to leave the game, which then causes you to lose the game (Once you concede, you no longer control a Platinum Angel, so its ability can't prevent you from losing the game)."
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
Fantastic card. Quite excited for the prerelease, and for when the preordered booster box comes in. But I'd love an official ruling on Platinum Angel/Abyssal Persecutor.
There is no conflict, the game just won't end while they are both in play.
101.2. When a rule or effect says something can happen and another effect says it can't, the "can't" effect wins.
If you had both in play at the same time, nothing would happen, ever.
Which means neither of you can win, and neither of you can lose. As in, you both could be at -100 with no cards in the library and the game would still go on.
Hmm. So you can concede, but can you propose a draw at any time as well? Because I just know someone somewhere is going to end up with both of these in play and no way to sac em, no cards in library or hand for both players, and no way to win for either player, at either 0-0 or 1-1 in the match (because if someone was 1-0 they wouldn't care about taking this game all the way to time).
Fantastic card. Quite excited for the prerelease, and for when the preordered booster box comes in. But I'd love an official ruling on Platinum Angel/Abyssal Persecutor.
Platinum Angel: You can't lose the game and your opponents can't win the game.
Abyssal Persecutor: You can't win the game and your opponents can't lose the game.
Net effect: You can't win OR lose, and your opponents can't win OR lose.
As in, if someone, anyone, would win or lose they don't instead. The game would NOT END until someone killed one of the creatures. Players would live in a nebulous state of undeath.
This card is terrible. If it wasn't a demon then maybe it would be okay even with the reverse Plat Angel effect. But since it is a demon, Baneslayer Angel stops all day long.
Since Baneslayer angel is a white card then Deathmark stops Baneslayer all day long right ?
Yeah I'm getting sick of the "dies to removal", "it's average", "baneslayer is better" arguements that is with EVERY creature.
Hey, it's a demon that can beat on you for 6 potentially on turn 3, "LOL path it NOOB"
Hey, it's a green mana battery with beat "ROFL, worst card evar, suck on my doomblade"
Hey, it's a angel that can remove your baneslayer "Hahahahaha you gotta be joking, path!!"
Hey, it's a creature that destorys all other creatures but itself! "LAWL, you can't be serious, removal!"
Platinum Angel: You can't lose the game and your opponents can't win the game.
Abyssal Persecutor: You can't win the game and your opponents can't lose the game.
Net effect: You can't win OR lose, and your opponents can't win OR lose.

Bahaha. Splendid. I just wanted to confirm that this is true.

If you force your opponent to kill it, you have played a 4cc dragon with no drawback.
MBC viable, mebbeh? After all, you can bash them in the face, bring em below 0, then hold him on defense so that your opponent can't safely attack.
you're playing black. that solves the baneslayer issue.
i agree. wotc seems to be trying to redeem themselves after instigator, cobra, etc. WWK mythics are spot-on, so far. i just hope they keep it up.
i wouldn't be so sure. he is extremely playable...and mythic. i'm sure he'll at least make it to the double digits, especially upon release.
seriously? what drawback? he has a drawback?
i'll say it again....
you're playing black!!!
