Economics of MTG and what this product will do to it aside:
If you live in the Greater Chicagoland area keep your eyes peeled for these things. They're finally available outside of your LGS.
I swing by Meijer after work every day this week and didn't find any Elspeth vs Tezzy decks, but today just now I popped into a Walmart for their Subway during lunch and I found them there! The person who stocks cards in these big stores I guess finally got them out, so start checking alternative shops like Toys R Us, Walmart, Target, Meijer, big bookstores, even media stores that sell music / movies / video games because they might even carry some there.
And I paid four cents over MSRP ($19.99). I guess patience paid off.
Which Meijer and which Wal-Mart? I've been checking all the Target and Meijer stores in NWI, and I haven't seen a thing. In fact the two Meijer stores I've been checking seem to have removed their CCG sections completely- unless they moved to some secret location- but I cannot seem to find any magic products in the Meijer stores close to me.
Exorbitant prices, you mean? Or were you making an "inflated" joke?
You quoted some prices earlier in the thread for the singles value of these cards. What're your singles prices at for these particular versions? Equivalent/within a buck? I'm not looking to excoriate you, I'm just wondering how you set prices for something like this.
Uhhhh.... yeah .... thats the word I meant <.< thanks for correcting me, hehe :).
I price all of my singles straight at ebay prices. Whatever they are selling for on ebay is what I price them at. I cross-check with some online-store compolation sites as well in case I dont have enough data or just to get a second opinion. In general the prices I listed for the singles is likely what I would be pricing them at. I always keep plenty of everything in stock (standard legal and older) and while I dont make as much as some shops in profit margins (since I price my cards lower), I make it up with a massive amount of sales volume. In the end, I do fine enough with it, and my customers love me for the low prices and selection :). -and no, since people always seem to ask, I dont have an online store where I sell singles-
Hah! Remind me not to give local retailers and card shops any guff from now on. I see a vast majority of the available duel decks on ebay trying to be sold for $35 dollars plus. Some as much as $50 dollars. Greedy ☺☺☺☺s. I'd rather pay a storekeep 35 to keep his business than some greedy 13 year old who got his parents to buy him six copies just so he can jack up the price by himself.
Just got mine this morning at Wal-Mart. They had 10 copies in. 20 bucks each.

Wait you mean all the store owners aren't able to knock out the supply at every mass market store in America?
Isn't artifical hype so much fun?
I can't believe here in NC, the local game stores are all STILL trying to charge $30 (if not 35) for this thing - we have a Walmart and Target every 500 feet. You aren't going to win that battle. lols.
(Probably the same reason most of the FLGS have FTV:Relics sitting on shelves at 75+ still also.)
Probably helps that we don't have a local gaming store. Shoot, they still have a number of the last duel deck, Phy v Coalition. Seems the restocked the M11 fat pack supply as well. I dig our Wal-Mart.

I would like to encourage everyone reading this thread that despite people easily finding this Duel Deck at mass-market stores less than a week after its release, the next one is going to be impossible to find so you should probably set aside fifty dollars right now to preorder whatever it turns out to be.
not for greedy money grubbing reasons... just to have a set of tezzerets and elspeths...
I know they are generally weak, but I have fun taking a few copies of these decks and making them better...

That's really silly, you have no idea what it'll be. For what you know, they could make a Hellcarver Demon Vs. Sphinx Ambassador duel deck. And I doubt that'd sell well at all. Yes, it's unlikely to be something like it, but that's the point: You don't know.

Along with many mods, I've moved shop over to MTGNexus. Come check us out!
My friend who works at wizards has confirmed that the next set is 'Goyf v.s. Atog.
The mythics are Tarmogoyf and Togatog.
So yes, I'd say you had better save up, for the tarmogoyf alone these will sell like hotcakes.
On a serious note, I'm going down the hill today, here is hoping I find at least one more to complete my playset

I think your sarcasm detector is busted Tizz. He was just fanning the flames of BS for overpriced preorders.
Finally got my preordered copy of EvT in today a week after release. lol. Cool art, Tezz's deck has alot more synergy in it, while Elspeths deck is riddled with inconsistencies. Most of her stuff either gives only +1/+1 temporarily to a creature or you have to discard a card and pay a mana cost in order to use the number of enforce cards to put a +1/+1 counter on only one target creature. As soon as I start playtesting I can already tell that Elsepths going to take forever and a day to get off the ground and by that time, Tezz is gonna have his army of artifacts ready for her.

Um... huh? Elpeth's deck is significantly faster than Tezz's. Tezz needs to hold out long enough to take over the game. Elspeth will win the early game the vast majority of the time. The question will be if she wins it enough to finish Tezz off. This is what I expect to see with these decks, and has been my experience so far as well.

So far, Elspeth's won 5 of 6, and the one loss came when her deck stopped drawing Plains after 3 of them.

Yea not only is elspeth's deck much faster, but the removal and artifact hate is insane. People underestimate elspeth's deck because there are some pretty inefficient agro creatures, but tez's deck lacks removal for anything more than 3 toughness and 1 counterspell wont cut it. Crusade is almost auto win.
This card will be the worst rare in RTR and less remembered than skaab ruibator in three months. It struggles to be on the same power level as mass of ghouls, even in limited.
That its not simply "not good enough for competitive", or underpowered. But that this is offensively bad, the real stinker tier.
Still, my best evaluation is that its approximately on the same power level as a 4/4 for 4 vanilla beater.
The "on a serious note" part, should be a strong indication that he was kidding. Jeesh, you all are having a heck of a time with the sarcasm today, when I have Zero issue seeing that its sarcasm, then that should tell ya something ;).
So I couldn't wait and paid $35 at the FLGS. I then walk into Walmart yesterday and they just put out the case... I picked up 2 more - 1 for a friend, and 1 to either part out or sell and maybe make up some difference on the cost of the first one... or maybe I'll just keep it ;-)
On a side note, I finally got to play this afternoon with the E V. T decks. I played T and my friend E. I really like the Tezzeret deck, though we only played one game and I lost. I mainly lost because I had a chance to be agressive and I didn't take it. Instead I let him get Elspeth out on the board and start throwing flyers at me (I was able to bounce it once as she got 8 counters, but he re-cast and threw a guy at me for the win on his turn.)
I absolutely love the Contagion Clasp, especially when combined with Steel Overseer! One turn I was able to ultimate Tezz, boost all of my artifacts with the Overseer and then again with the clasp. Unfortunately he had chump blockers, so I didn't break through... or rather I did with one of my attackers, but I attacked him and not Elspeth which in hindsight was stupid. In the end I had a massive Juggernaut (about 11/9). It was also fun dropping the -1/-1 counter from the Clasp onto one of his angels, then proliferate it twice with the clasp, so instead of 6/6 it was a 3/3!
OK -- anybody here know how to beat Elspeth's deck with Tezzeret? Seriously, I've been playing with these all evening, and like that guy a few posts above, the win-ratio has been about 5:6 in favor of El. What strategies can you more experienced players suggest?
Other than that, loving the decks and cards

Well, you could always buy them, and then trade/sell the ones you dont need. Its not as if you wont be able to get your value back out of them :).
Not saying you have to obviously, Im just saying its a good deal and well worth it if its something you are interested in.
