I ask these questions frequently as I am trying to figure out a way to get 2 more chain lightnings and some other cards. I already have 2 opened premium decks and a sealed one. I could buy another one and sell any excess cards. However, before doing that, I want to make sure I will manage to cover at least my expenses for the 2 extra boxes (I initially needed 2 not 4).
And I won't go through the hassle of shipping this abroad. If some of the singles are worth 10 bucks (FoD, Lavamancer), then I will gladly sell them.
Well the good news is that a pair of these Chain Lightnings can be gotten for about $15.00 or less. If that's truly 'insurmountable' you ought to find another hobby or a better-paying job.
You can easily sell the un-opened one to pay for them. As singles, a bit more of a crap-shoot, but still probably could do it. The key is to do it now while there's still some hype going on.
I am now hesitating to keep this an exclusively foil set with cards from the same set or to add in some burn staples like goblin guide and lava spike...
for casual the deck is good. If you want it to be competitive go here:
Excepton the first turn as bloodcrazed does not have haste.
Also you're burn spells could potentially be prevented or countered.
Goblin guide also continues swinging once your hand runs out and you can use your burn to clear out blockers and swing with goblin guide. Bloodcrazed goblin requires you to burn your opponent.
In other words, goblin guide is vastly superior... there's a reason bloodcrazed goblin is the cheaper card
Just a question: isn't it less risky (and cheaper moneywise) to have Bloodcrazed Goblins (http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Discussion.aspx?multiverseid=205007) instead of Goblin Guides in a burn deck? If the deck is built as suggested on that thread, you will surely deal damage on every turn. Sure, you won't have haste, but it's a poor man's goblin guide.
Funny, I was thinking about bloodcrazed goblin just yesterday. He just really doesn't work for multiple reasons. If you have him and goblin guide in your opening hand you will certainly want to play guide turn one and then BC goblin won't attack until turn 3. Just thinking about common situations, you will probably do 2 on average with BC goblin and 4 with guide. 3 for 1 is the burn ideal; 3 for 2 is acceptable; 2 for 1 is not; 4 for 1 is incredible.
You may notice there are some cards that are 2 for 2 but magma jet allows you to scry and keldon marauders can possibly do 3 more, chump block or take out a creature.
For anyone still wondering if the deck is valuable, I checked the singles prices on Star City, and the deck is easy worth over 60 bucks, not even counting the valuable unique lands. Chain lightning, Grim lavamancer, Price of progress, FoD, Ball lighning, and Browbeat more than pay for the deck itself. Buy this deck, it's also really fun to reverberate a fireblast.

I can never find these on sale...
Target and Walmart have their cards done by a 3rd party who will let them rot at full price rather than put them on clearance...

That just means that StarCity overprice their cards. You could get those cards for far less on MagicCardMarket.
From what I can tell, some are cheaper there, but some are not (Lavamancer, FoD). If you were a smart shopper, you could get the singles for at least 45 US dollars, from a quick look at some of the cards, or you can just buy the product for 25-30 dollars and not hassle with all the singles shopping. My point is that whatever site you go to will have the singles marked way higher than the actual product, inferring that it is a smart buy, ya?

I flipped four (playset of everything) when they first came out. On each, paid $17.50 shipped and made about $15 profit.
Three-four weeks ago I bought eight (2 playsets of everything). On each, paid $19 shipped and made about $10 profit.
^^ sold everything on eBay as BIN (researched the "going rate") where I am a top-rated seller. Profit was after ALL fees. Surprisingly, most of these singles have held their value well.
It's an instant speed 5/5 trampler for 4. Wtf do you people want seriously? It has applications in populate/ above the curve beats decks, or in Bant control/ flash. I seriously think anyone mad at this card for any reason other than losing an attacker to instant speed wurm, should go home and make their own awesome card game and leave the rest of us alone.
I have already opened 2 boxes and have 1 set aside for selling. Are you telling me these things have gained value over time?
Nope.
It's readily available on eBay for $25, including shipping. If you're looking to flip it for a profit as a sealed set, wait a few years.
The price of the singles is almost always going to be higher than the price of the sealed box, because it takes effort to open the boxes and individually list the singles.

Along with many mods, I've moved shop over to MTGNexus. Come check us out!
How many time did you invest to all this packing, shipping etc.?
Maybe you should calculate your wage rate per hour and think about working 3 hours longer per week?
I would be supprised if you actually earned more money per hour than with normal work
Yeah, it's a hobby. I barely supplement my income but it also helps when I want to put decks together.
If you want to make money, brick & mortar store is pretty much it - and that takes a ton of work. Breaking cases and selling playsets of T2 singles seems ok but I would be very surprised if those eBay sellers make more than $10-15 an hour (of course < 40 hours a week too).

If you don't want to buy the guides you should replace them with hellspark elemental, spark elemental or more burn.

they're 25 at mine too, theres about 5 left. i still can't justify buying any. some of the cards are great, but the whole foiling thing... meh.
