I'm interested in seeing the Knight decklist when it's all said and done. Wizards has done a good job so far of keeping the white decks in duel decks from having a ton of noninteractivity in them (such as with high volumes of creatures with protection and other misc. hosers), and I hope that continues in this as well.
Man i like how its knights vs dragons, but there's no knight in the picture, just a dragon breathing fire. I guess the knight lost.
For knights, i hope they put in some decent ones, like Knight of the Reliquary and maybe the paladins from a direction of the compass.
For dragons, I would really like a non foil version of kukoshu. But if anything most of us buying this will be aiming for the dragon side and dumping the knights as trade fodder.
Enraged goblin minions pour from the mountain crags to repel the intruders, but that’s only to give the majestic hellkites time to take to the skies and unleash a firestorm that no knight could hope to survive.
I'd say that Rashida Scalebane would be a shoo-in as the Knights MR except she's on the Reserved List and totally breaks this in half. A pity since she would fit right in even if she's really only a Soldier.
Very flavorful but I also question what kind of deck the dragon one would be.
A little disappointing value wise since I doubt the mythics can compare to the Elspeth vs Tezzeret Duel Deck but that raised the bar quite a bit. If anything I'm a little sad that this won't see release for another six months. Means the next one after that is even longer.
Nothing in this game is degenerate or completely dominant. They haven't banned anything in standard in a long, long time. Hell they should have banned affinity right away, but they didn't until boxed sales collapsed too. Hasbro had to come in and fire people.
I'll enjoy watching all the whiners eat crow monday.
This sounds pretty fun. I'm assuming Silver Knight would be a little too powerful, but having one in the deck wouldn't break it I suppose (reiver demon was in the other dd anyways).
The number of promo knight cards I'd like to see is pretty low though, very few rare knights are going to be on par with rares (mythics) like the planeswalkers in the other duek decks...
That being said, the quality of uncommons and rares has been decent, so there will probably be somehing in it worth the price. Maybe some goblin staples.
And let's be honest, there is a pretty high chance that these decks will be monocolored. Like, 99%.
Wow! Thought it was the 3rd set of the block.
Im hoping for knight goodies like Kotr, stilloon cavalier, maybe even a FoD
I know its not likely, but i hope these decks arent monocolored.
Kinsbaile Cavalier. He IS a Knight lord, after all, and an excellent Rare for this deck. Plus, doesn't create an "unfun" situation like Knight Exemplar tends to cause people to scream at her just because of the word "indestructible". Southern Paladin Maybe, depending on how the removal abilities of the two sides are balanced at uncommon and common. Lightwielder Paladin. Again, seems like a solid choice if removal is more prevalent in Dragons than Knights. Student of Warfare Just a solid cheap Knight to use. Hold the Line Not a fan of the card, but seems like a DD type choice as a filler rare.
No clue what the Knight Mythic would be, though. I'm guessing some splashy Sorcery or Enchantment will get bumped up, like Final Judgment.
As for the Rares in Dragons, the only way I want to see Shivan Dragon in this is if it's the Benson art.
I don't think this one will try and sell off the Mythics, but rather off of a suite of solidness. Most likely the Uncommons and Commons will be at least on par with EvT for quality, and the Rares will probably be about the same or better to balance out the lack of chase PW mythics.
Also, I'd die laughing if they jammed Chain Lightning into the Dragon deck.
if they wanted to be creditable they would release it on april 2... or a week earlier or a week later... this just screams April Fools to me...
I disagree. The lead in is far too long, and the structure is too polished (i.e.: just like in the ACTUAL DD announcements (http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/arcana/1737). Plus, this seems like exactly the sort of product that Wizards would publish as a DD, especially since it's the "next step" in the Tribal -> PW -> Tribal -> PW approach they've been taking to DD releases.
Also, the art is far too good. Just look at the "new art" for the Pirates VS Ninjas prank (http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtgcom/arcana/1559). This is obviously card art, and I can't see Wizards wasting a good piece of commissioned art like this on a joke, rather than Photoshopping that went for PvN (although the Higure alt-art is spectacularly brilliant...).
I'm inclined to believe the knight deck will be Bant coloured, while the dragons will be black-red. Bant gives knights access to cards like Knight of the Reliquary and Rafiq of the Many, while dragon cards tend to be either red or black (with obvious exceptions like Eternal Dragon or the legendary cycle from Kamigawa).
Also, it makes for an interesting distribution of the colour pie. Domain shenanigans aside, I always thought Phyrexia vs Coalition should have been WUG vs BR.
Well, rafiq and bogardan hellkite would make great alt. art foil mythics... but I doubt they'll make it bant colored. I'd love Kotor though, but I bet we just get monowhite :<
If we did get bant though I'm also praying for Noble Hierarch. Would be BAMF to get KOTOR and her in the same set. (yes hierarch is not a knight but as a mana fixer and Exalted sort of plays into the strengths of knights I think it would work)
Hmm...a mythic for the Knight deck? I can kind of see Rafiq working. Bant-colored knights wouldn't be too bad with multicolor knights like Steward of Valeron, Ethercaste Knight, and Court Hussar.
If the deck's mono-W, though, maybe Pentarch Paladin is worthy of mythic status?
Will this be coming out before the third set in Scars Block or before M11? Because if it's in M11, I could easily see a preview uncommon dragon. Dragons need some more hatchlings.
Sounds as a cool idea, if it ain't a april fools joke.
But there have to be some really serious cards in there, to make it interesting.
I fear that they will fill the dragon side with goblins and burn spells, and then just have a few like 5 cards that's a dragon creature. Almost all dragons are rare. So don't exspect the "Dragon Allstars" deck
Indeed. Hopefully, we'll also get the knight tokens to go with it!
nah tyrants horns go strait back, the bogarden hellkite horns double back.
THis produce release date is aprils fools days so valid?
Except for the unexplained new art and it not seeming that much like an april's fools?

There are goblins in it as well
For lower dragons:
Dragon Whelp
Hellkite Hatchling
Fledgling Dragon
Furnace Whelp
I can't for the life of me think of the what the commons could be outside of burn spells or goblins.

It's for the casual crowd, a crowd that isn't interested in combos. I see cards more like Knight Exemplar and Silver Knight.
