This is perfect for Fish, but the main issue is that there is no basis for a non-Merfolk fish deck right now.
I mean, it has NO disadvantage if you think about it -- any spell that could target it in T2 is a spell that could kill it.
There is the fact that you dont get a chance to counter that spell, but oh well.
Being able to turn a random combat trick like Mighty Leap into a kill spell is still some sort of drawback.
ew m12 sucks so far.
come on wotc, reprint some classic, good stuff.
think of all those awesome cards that are not good enough for legacy. that type 2 would love to see agian.
We have less than 10 cards so far...
And this bear is decent in limited as far as I can tell. I'd be fine if someone traded a Giant Growth trick for this.
The problem with this in limited is tappers. Blinding mage is a good card in limited that completely wrecks cards with this drawback.
The problem with constructed is going to be that blue won't get enough to surround it to make a good aggro deck. Blue does occasionally get aggressively costed creatures, but they never get enough to make a deck.
This is probably the best illusion creature they've made yet, although M10's one was pretty good in limited with flying. I'm assuming this is flavor that they really like and want to push, so they're trying to find something that'll maybe see play.
This is an interesting card... things that would normally target it would be destroy spells anyways, so it's not necessary that much worse for it. Blue aggro I guess? IDK...

Why are people hating on this card? If my opponent wants to waste a spell on something I spent one mana on, that's fine. If they don't, then I get to beat for two.

I'll be sad if people don't start calling The Chain Veil "Fleetwood Mac."

... Tumble Magnet. The prevalence of this card is good enough reason to be concerned with the viability of this lil guy.

This thing is good - I mean, Goblin Guide sees tons of play and has a big drawback, but unfortunately it's so far out of its color in terms of actual Constructed play that it won't see any. If it were red, I'd love it. Since it's blue, it's quite bad. Oh well. Another addition to my UB Illusion Tribal deck.
Yeah, I don't get the hate either. Sure he most likely won't see play in standard and will be a "just okay" guy in limited, but...seriously, what do you want from a 2/2 for :symu:? "Oh no, gut shot kills him when he shouldn't! My mono-:symg: infect opponent can use their Vines of Vastwood to murder my 1-drop creature! WORST CARD EVER.". It's a one drop. All that stuff is a little more valid when you're sinking 4 mana into Phantom Beast, but honestly I don't expect that much from my 1-drops and pound for pound in standard his drawback isn't that much more agonizing than Goblin Guides.
If nothing else, it's nice to see blue getting something a bit different.

It's an ok card; some of the hate may be from the things you can't do with it--no equipping, no Giant-growth type effects, no tainted strike, etc--the things people want to do to their 1 drops to get more value out of them. Strong one drops cause some people to think they can get to a 1-2 turn kill, even if it would take them deep into magical christmas tree land; this guy can't realize those dreams, even in the best of all possible worlds.
I actually quite like the sound of this, the problem with all the "skulking" style creatures has always been the simple fact that any 1cc targetting spell can trade with them which means that losing out on tempo is highly likely.
Illusory Bear on the other hand if it really is a 2/2 with "skulking" for U is solid because you are (unless your opponent has creatures which target, which is unlikely in constructed) trading U and a card for 1 mana and a card(or at worst part of an Arc Trail style card). Or Tumble Magnet which is it's worst enemy.
Also a 2/2 1 drop isn't expected to last long, it's strength is based on the 4 or so damage that it deals before it's killed or trumped by a high toughness blocker.
It's not without drawbacks(the biggest being the fact that it can't be equipped or otherwise pumped) but a 2/2 for 1 is good and there's Grand Architect in the environment as a nice non tribal blue lord, I wouldn't bank on it being part of a tier 1 deck but I wouldn't be surprised to see it in a solid tier 1.5/2 deck.
Exactly. I would be perfectly fine in any scenario if an opponent decided to use a removal spell on my one drop, or even a tumble magnet charge counter. If we get enough aggressive blue creatures, grand architect aggro could become a real deck.
It's a ONE DROP. Since when did people care about their Jackal Pups?

R Citizen Cane (Feldon of the Third Path)
Yeah, in Constructed, what you said is much more true. It's still weak to Tumble Magnet, though, which is a bummer.

When has a 'skulking' anything been good enough for constructed?
These cards are ALWAYS made with limited in mind.
