Well, as a legacy player I would say that it's just as unplayable in legacy as Beast Within. You know, against half of the legacy decks you have to be lucky to even survive until turn 3 and the rest has Top and Brainstorm and will probably hit a Jace from the top if they want.
The deck is shuffled as part of the spell's resolution. You can't stack anything with Top or Brainstorm, because the first part of Chaos Wave shuffles the permanent in before the second part reveals.
Ok...maybe you guys can help me because I'm stumped....how is "Devour For Power" tied for 2nd place on value? The new legends are kind of middling compared to the other sets, the new rares are sub par compared to say.."political Puppets and even the reprint cards seem decent but not over the top...how does this hold neck and neck with Mirror Mastery??
I have a question for you guys. I am definitely getting two of these decks (devour and mastery), but I am trying to decide if I want to pick up one heavenly inferno too. To give a little background info, I started playing during shards and have very few older cards. I also just started playing EDH, and have almost no staple EDH cards. While these decks obviously come with several staples (sol ring/command tower/greaves), is it worth it to get a 3rd deck even since I am already getting 2 with said staple cards or should I just get singles from heavenly inferno (mainly Kaalia, angel of despair, akroma, and mother of runes)?
I should note that these will be for my birthday, so the other option instead of getting the 3rd deck is to a card for my legacy Junk deck I am slowly building, such as a vindicate or mox diamond (or pernicious deed + thoughtseize)?
I'm seeing a 'Gotta Catch 'Em All' theme with Commander. I mean, everyone is noticing that some cards that seem to belongs in the decks they are getting are in all the other decks. If this is an intentional marketing tactic, it is a very good one for Wizards. Adding content that ultimately forces the buyer to consider getting the entire product line is a common strategy in selling video games.
BUG has old-school value.
RUG has amazing commanders/new stuff.
RWB has a balance between the first two.
RWU has unique a Donate/Long Term Strategy thing going for it.
BWG has an amazing combo engine general + tribal love for tokens/saprolings
Again, all these have selling qualities in thier own right, but they ALSO have cards the other deck obviously need. It would only make sense to buy all of them if you truly want to enjoy this product to it's fullest. The buy in bulk idea for boosters seems to tie strongly into this as well.
I think i'm going to buy them in this order: Devour for Power, Mirror Mastery, Heavenly Inferno, Counter Punch, Political Puppets.
I can easily see that BUG/RUG are the ones to snatch at Wal-Mart first. My wife LOVES red angels, so Kaalia would be next for sure. Ghave easily fits in my current EDH and his deck and is rather unpopular, which works just perfectly for me. Puppets in itself is as cool to me as it is unpopular to others, so it will be on the shelf when I finally get it me thinks.
I myself am not happy with the unpopularity of Counter Punch. Jacks up the price for Scavenging Ooze. And I want a lot of 'm =p
I expect it will become more popular once people lose to it a few times.
Both new generals are very effective in practice and cause the deck to play very differently in the late game. It wouldn't surprise me if Counterpunch ends up with the highest win percentage during the launch parties.

Only, Warp is (probably) harder to come by and it's hyped due to its application in EDH for the moment of course. I expect it to drop significantly once the set is released.
EDIT: In fact, most new cards from the commander set will drop after the release. But that doesn't mean that the decks aren't worth buying. In fact, they're really awesome for EDH beginners. Good job by Wizards promoting the format this way.
You've obviously have never played Legacy. But enough of that, any deck running red is already running a different color. Besides burn, but that's a tier 4 deck that has the win percentage of the Detroit Lions. Zoo has access to other colors for removal, and the superior goblins list (aka a green or black splash) has better options. Hell, even with a green splash in goblins, they have better suite removal in red as is. As for the prices dropping, I agree. Flusterstorm will see minimal play because spell pierce outclasses it. The ability to hit any noncreature spell is extremely relevant in legacy as they are most of the wincons, not just instants and sorceries.

I preordered all five, and after looking at the decklists I decided to combine all of the good cards into two good decks instead of having five mediocre decks. I can't believe they put Solemn Simulacrum in only one deck, that card is a format staple.
So just recieved the decks and the Mirror Mastery one has 2 oversized Rikku's and no Intet. Don't really mind it much, but was curious if anyone else has similar experiences?
That's really strange, probably a misprint. Personally I wouldn't care because I'll never use the oversized but... that's odd.

Try selling it or trading it away to someone that doesn't want to invest heavily into the Commander decks?
I'm definitely buying Heavenly Lunch cause I love that wedge, and it looks like a badass deck. And I'm probably gonna get Lunch Counter purely for Skullclamp, lol.

You're buying a $30 deck for a $2.50 card?
I think Skullclamp + the rest definitely makes it worth it though, even if the deck as a whole isn't the best. It's got some decent new cards if nothing else.

so after sitting down and playing with devour for lunch and the copy/clone deck pitting them against each other I have to say that the devour deck packs a strong punch. The only real thing of note is that both decks just spew out mana like nobody's business. These decks are pretty much pure ramp into big spells.
I was going to go to the Release event tomorrow, but my store sold out of Devour for Power (they said they received 25 of each), and that was the one I wanted to play. I'll probably just sleep in and buy from Target this weekend.
Just picked up Mirror Mastery! It was awesome because I pulled a Foil Mental Misstep paid for my deck completely! I'm glad I was able to pick up at least one before they sold out.
Got Devour for Power today. Let me just say that Buried Alive is really dumb with The Mimeoplasm. Go fetch a creature with useful abilities (like, Troll Ascetic) and one with high power (like, Artisan of Kozilek) and something that likes sitting in the graveyard, an Incarnation for example (like, Brawn) Then next turn, plop out a 13/12 Mimeoplasm with Trample, Hexproof, and 1G: Regenerate. On the 4th turn thanks to Sol Ring. That was pretty much pure luck though.
Playing against my bro's Heavenly Inferno, all of our games were one-sided, it was bizarre. I either lost horribly or won with barely a scratch. They seemed balanced for that reason, but in a weird way. Either not enough land or too much land.

yeah. the mimeoplasm is like, my favorite dude ever. last night i exiled a krosan tusker and a chorus of the conclave on turn 4. that game was a total blowout.
Hi, I was just introduced to EDH today when I saw these Commander Packs. And I'm just wondering, are those cards that are released only in "The Commander" (like mimeoplasm, damia, etc. not including all revised/reprinted ones) legal for legacy or vintage? What formats are they allowed to be played? Can they be used in 60 card decks disregarding the rules of EDH? I'm also planning to buy but those precon but in gatherers, cards like mimeoplasm, etc was stated to be "not playable in any formats" in their set & legality tab. Please help!

That said...still probably not all too viable.

You exaggerated it to the point where you skewed the image of the Legacy format. But whatever, I understand your point and will leave it at that.
