Love that they've powered him down, hate that they have raised the mana cost. If Wizards starts just printing all of their Planeswalkers at 5+ CMC, no one is going to play them. Cards that cost 5 or more need to either greatly impact your board presence or outright lead to you winning the game in a turn or two. I don't really see this Jace as doing either of those things. Honestly, I'd have been happier if they had made him cost 3 and given him nearly the same assortment of powers.
Still, I had not been liking how powerful Planeswalkers really are, so maybe this is the way to "fix" them. I kind of doubt it though. All the spikes out there are just going to stop using Planeswalkers completely if they all follow this mold. I'm sure that's not what Wizards wants either.
So far for M11, we know that there are at least three Planeswalkers that cost five or more. Only Chandra and Garruk are still a mystery at this point. Maybe we will see Planeswalkers relegated to only one or two slots in certain decks in the future?
Jace's abilities are suppose to have synergy with Innistrad block mechanics, ie. the graveyard. The reason why the first ability is opposed to the 2nd, is that while you may want to mill yourself to do shenanigans with whatever graveyard cards from INN work well with it, there may come a point late in the game where you don't want to mill yourself for 10 any longer, or you are looking for one single card left in your library with very little cards left. While this is purely speculative, it makes sense from that stand point, rather than in the context of a vacuum.
But the only graveyard mechanic we have seen is Flashback, and at that point it is more expensive than just drawing and casting it. I'm not sold on this new Jace just yet.
I don't love this card, but I like it a lot better than Venser and even Elspeth for a random one-of in control. If you drop him after a turn four DoJ then you might win the game.
If it only had five loyalty. Eh, I think this card will see as much play as Liliana Vess...
You have no idea what type of graveyard matters cards will be in the block. Making assumptions in this game are generally bad ideas.
even if standard gets dredge-a-licious (via M12 or the next block), the man in question is 5cc. reduce the cc by 1 or 2 and i'm potentially happy about him in such an environ. as it stands tho, it looks to me like M12 is in the spirit of Scars block: the power level is coming down.
His abilities are not connected with Jace's Archivist.
Who says it has to? I've seen people claiming this connection, but I haven't seen WotC say it. And while it doesn't 100% connect to Jace's Archivist, it certainly connects to Jace's Erasure very well.

Just remember jace 2.0 started out as a $20 card. And is the only reason people value planeswalkers so highly.

I have 2 decks right now, i call the first one WHITE POWER because it is a white dominant deck, and the other is MALE ELF ENHANCEMENT because it is all about getting my elfs increased attack! - Unknown
the only thing about this card i dislike is that it will still be overpriced right after release, and he might go up too much after inn comes out... but i want it. i love jank, memory adept.
Hmm Mill is lame and why I don't like beleren, he is just janky draw with the lamest ultimate ever. I was hoping for an Illusionist Jace who could make harmless clones or something. I do like a draw 20 though! Seriously stop looking at the dumb mill, in 4 turns you draw 23 extra cards for 5 mana! That is pretty much "I win" for any control deck. Gideon, one of the most powerful walkers ever is in M12 so Jace has his personal body guard. This is a sweet Commander walker as well. Mmm draw 20 drooool...
Card is potentially powerful, but I'm nore distraught at the clear lack of decent draw spells blue is going to have moving forward. Nerf my counters, but don't take my draw spells away. (It's already extremly lacking in that department.)

This card has lackluster written all over it. But, at least we can 100% accept that there are new Garruk, Jace and Chandra. This is guy is underwhelming. Five mana to mill ten (or draw one?) and have a 4 or 5 loyalty PW? Seems bad.
+1 loyalty draw a card is good. Mill is strong enough to kill someone quickly. It's a beta version of mind sculptor. If he lives for a few turns, you can pop his ultimate to guarantee you find yourseful a win.
Not sure why there's so much hate. Doesn't dominate the board, but is definitely decent enough to see play as a 2-3 of.
Really? Brainstorming for free every turn wasn't bad enough? Now for 1 more than JTMS you can Glimpse your opponent every turn for free? Yeah, this won't be pricey at all.....
Yeah, because milling your opponents library is going to do you a ton of good when the good stuff is in their hand or punching you in the face. Unless you actually mill them out, the 0 is the equivalent of putting those cards to the bottom of their library. If INN is graveyard based, then it's possibly doing them a favor.
Not as strong as you make it to be.

I personally like this card a lot.
So you guys all forgot about Jacerator / Turbo fog?
psychosis crawler.. and the Archivist will make for some cute decks.
Jura and this guy can put the game on hold... maybe some Ice Titan + Metamorph.
Will we get Temple Bell reprint (or better yet Font of Mythos?!) Then we might be getting somewhere.
The key word is "player". With flashback confirmed by the D12 updates, he may end up "drawing" you a fair amount of cards every turn.
However, I also agree that he's pretty lame. Without affecting the board, he needs to be pretty game-breaking when he hits to see play.
But uhh, interesting card. Archive Trap Pyromancer's Ascension anyone?

Probbly could've cost four and maybe they'd neuter some of his mill? But I still like it.

It's too early to tell how powerful it will end up being, but I don't like the design.
1. Repeating mechanics. Twice.
2. Draw 20 is a logistical issue in paper magic.

Sick of hearing people say that.
Anyway, you don't play this guy on turn 5. I think he gets played turn six after Jura has started to hold the field.
Day of Judgement -> Jura -> Jace
Good in a type of deck... but much more narrow than his previous iterations.
