Hmm, decent in standard, if you pull this in draft then you've won any game you can resolve him on, this card will be powerful as hell in the draft format.
Haha @Dromar the Banisher, posted at the same time =]
The second ability is "target player" not "target opponent". Ok, I'll have fun with this Jace as long as there's good ways to interact with your graveyard after you mill yourself, and if red isn't completely dominant enough in the future-- killing me before I land this this thing.
Oh, that does make him much better if true. It'll probably not live long enough to Glimpse twice 50% of the time, though,
Loyalty 4 is too low for its cost, especially with +1 and 0 abilities. By the time you can cast it in this format you should be worried about it taking six damage from a Titan, or eating a burn spell plus a Grim Lavamancer activation.
It was very carefully chosen, I think.
If it started with 5 loyalty you could use the first ability to get to 6, then the next turn use a proliferate spell to get to 7 then use the ultimate.
EDH, on the other hand, is more like a monster truck rally. It's more about the spectacle than the race, the games go long, and it's not usually clear who's in the lead until there's only one truck left.*
Single player EDH is like two guys smacking each other with pillows... until one of them pulls out a shotgun.
Jace players have been spoilt over the last 2 years.

Interesting, the new Jace is very different from the old. I don't think that this would be included in most or any blue deck unless it it graveyard them since his 1st and 2nd ability are rarely relevant, although his ultimate is a bomb its not a "you win" ultimate like JTMS although it would work well with the 2nd ability it would take you several turn to do so.
If I were to rate this in a scale from 1 to 10 I would give it a 6, it's glimpse ability is very interesting but gives no card advantage at all, unless you run a mill deck for that sole purpose.
#1 - What's the dumbest idea you ever had?
#2 - 15/15 for 15?
#1 - Make it dumber
#2 - Give it protection from removal and counter?
#1 - DUMBER!
#2 - Add Timewalk?
#1 - DAMN IT MAN, I SAID DUMB!! DUMB !!!
#2 - It destroys everything when it attacks.... And wait, I have a friend who plays mill decks... I want to beat him too.
#1 - Excellent! Recess is over, go back and learn sex-ed with the other 6th graders.
regardless, mathematically, you have the same chance of drawing any given card no matter how many cards are left in your deck (obviously not if all 4 copies are gone, but the way it is randomized then mill doesnt matter)
Yea, you need to get all four copies of something, there's nothing like Surgical Extraction floating around currently or anything.
Many in this thread are seriously underrating him.
Will he be godly? Depends on the environment obviously. But is he complete crap? Absolutely not.
This absolutely hoses valakut. Mill a large number of mountains? Yes please! Also let's keep in mind that word has some kind of plan here - there will obviously be cards which take advantage of these abilities.
The people who are complaining that Jace 2.0 was overpowered are the same ones who are now complaining that this one is too weak. I find this card very well designed though. It can mill, which is its main purpose. It can also dig to find an answer while still milling if need be. The ultimate just makes me giggle.
I'm going on record right now and stating that before the end of 2012 we will see foil dual lands in booster packs (The real, Alpha dual lands). You can quote me on that.

Sweet! I love getting the Chandra of Jaces!
And the card will probably be about as good as her too. Chandra was never an awful card, and had much potential when it could be used to take out a baneslayer and live (in a pre-titan world...).
Now I think it's time for red to get the Jace 2.0 of Chandras and M12 will officially be "the red mages set."

To me this looks like WotC saying "Hey blue mages, we think its time you learn that the game has more then just counterspells."

Re: People misusing the term Vanilla to describe a flying, unleash (sometimes trample) critter.
Brainstorm is better than Glimpse, with fetches and other good shuffle effects in the format.
Not to mention the bounce ability (board presence!) and fateseal, which can drastically increase your ability to put away games.
He's a 5 mana cantrip or glimpse with no board presence. He will see a bit of play, but not mainstream.
Read the screen captured pic rather than the error laden typed version please.
