I'm not gonna lie, I was imagining the video trailer live in my head and it gave me goose bumps and then it gave me goose bumps on top of the goose bumps.
I personally think an mtg mmo could be amazing. Key word there is could lol.
Yeah, it could be amazing. I always thought Ravnica would be the perfect setting for a mmo. Then imagine the actual magic card game could be collected and played inside the mmo as a minigame...
The game Monopoly never takes less than a day and a half to finish in my family. So I doubt the realism of this movie
You should check out competitive Monopoly. Its a fast pace style of the game that rarely takes more then an hour to finish. There are stratagies that speed up the game considerably. I know I can finish a game with 8 playing in just under 90 minute pretty regularly.

Win.
I'd watch this. But I think the Weatherlight Saga would be watchable too. Gerrard, Tarngarth, and the rest, sort of like the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen against one common foe; Volrath, the Evincar of Rath.
For the record, Clue Did indeed rock, and the other game-based movies did indeed suck. Final Fantasy: The Spirits within didn't even remotely have anything to do with the FF franchise. Now, I did love me some Advent Children, but that was never a theater release (was it?) and when you really look at the movie as a movie, it didn't really make a lot of sense. But it still rocked.
Does the Shenmue movie count?
And I didn't see Prince of Persia, but I didn't hear anything bad about it...
in any case, the current MTG storyline is way too sprawling to work as a movie. I'd do it more as a cable TV show like Game of Thrones, with some snazzy effects thrown in and stuff. and lots of sex, violence and cursing, because it's cable and you can do that.
but as for movies, I would use the successful block stories and minimize the fact that they are tied into MTG. let people give the stories a chance without any of the baggage that comes from it being based on a card game. The Brother's war would make a great high fantasy, war/political drama. The Weatherlight Saga would make an awesome series of movies, and my vision of Kamigawa would be on some Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon stuff, except with killer samurai battles and magic dragon/demon battles replacing wire-fu.
I'd also like to see a Mirage/Visions movie, if only because I think Africa and the Islands are a great setting for high fantasy with awesome folklore, but movie studios won't touch a high fantasy concept starring someone who isn't white (Prince of Persia doesn't count) with a ten-foot pole.

Oh my goodness, I was envisioning this on my head and with the right production backing and stuff it would've looked good.
Then I started mentally weeping because I know the unlikeliness of it being even moving forward.
And then I mentally wept again because deep in my heart I feel that MtG CCG will cease to exist and any movie of any sort won't still be made.

Hahaha, did you ever read the first Magic novel, Arena? The MtG card game existed within the fiction of that book and it was great!

I have to say im relieved. Most of my most cherished properties from my youth have been butchered by movie releases. Look what they did in that awful movie with nic cage.

I think if they did this it wouldn't be based on any of the books, go in one of two directions.
1) It could tell a new story with one or two of the Walkers that we currently have. Maybe it would push the Gideon Chandra thing that was (at least I think) was hinted at ever so gently.
2) It could take a normal guy from a world going through his life, something drastic happens and his spark ignites. He travels to planes in a 5 minute montage learning how to be a real planeswalker, and he comes upon a phyrexian-like civilization and does battle with it. A few walkers make a cameo I think it would be the most reasonable of all the options.

Option 2 sounds like a cheesy budget production--like something Wizards would stick on VHS and include in a starter box in the 90's.
"Okay, I'll... play a Mountain!"
"Red magic, Volrath. Richard has learned much under my teaching."
"Glad you have my back, Hanna. Time to add mana to my mana pool and cast--"
(whispers) "Richard, don't tap that land! Keep that Shock in your hand! It's an instant, which means you can cast it at any time--"
"--even during an opponent's turn! Hanna, you're brilliant! And thanks for keeping me from tapping my Mountain. I could have lost 1 life due to mana burn!"
"Foolish humans! Volrath is unstoppable! Now watch as I bring forth a Swamp and play a card of ANCIENT power: the Dark Ritual! I have three mana, on turn one!"
"This is bad! I need to remember what Gerrard told me... people are like trolls! They can regenerate from anything, removing all damage from them and taking them out of combat!"
"You are right to fear me! I shall use my advantage to cast an unstoppable creature of pure destruction: the Phyrexian Negator!"
"NOW, RICHARD! SHOCK IT NOW!"

Haha a game within a game... inception style
Bur yeah, a Magic mmo set on Ravnica... If it where done well i would even pay to play it
Depending on the scope though, they could do it across multiple planes if you where playing as a walker...
Sorry, i know that was off topic but the idea really appeals to me

I was actually planning on writing a series of novels based on a real world family all having sparks ignite and being whisked away to a world they have to use their newly acquired magic powers to save. Each family member would represent a color. Mother, Father and children are White, Green, Blue and Black (respectively), and they meet a red guide once they arrive in their new plane, with the Mother being the leader and central character. it would have been a "hero's journey" type of story about her, and the plane they were trapped on would have been a lot like Jamuura (because I like writing about characters that look like me)
Then i was informed of the potential legal nightmare I'd have with tying my story into MTG without Wizards' permission, along with the fact I'd have roughly a Mirran's chance in New Phyrexia's core of getting permission. I still plan on writing the story (I've got about 6 novel's worth of ideas and material, and I'll start on it as soon as I get two other books I've written published), but I'll have to make some drastic changes to it in order to not get sued.

I think the Brother's War would never work, since I doubt they could get the kind of funding a movie like that demands.
