I wonder what spell she used. ._.
Obviously not go for the throat. His neck is still intact. It could have been rend flesh. The picture shows that it doesn't so much hurt the flesh itself as rend the soul from the body. The classic homelandian way to kill the Baron would have been to cast broken visage. But that would only have worked if he was attacking.
If Baron Sengir was the king of this land, then obviously we are going back to the setting of Homelands. Can anyone share a little background about what happened in Geogorthera or whatever it's called Ulgrotha Feroz's Ban was lifted? Serra Planeswaker left for greener pastures, right?
Also, what are those zombie looking things in the background? Are they actual zombies or just part of the furniture?

This isn't going to be set in Ulgrotha. If the name were English words ("Dark Ascension" or what have you) I'd lean towards that possibility strongly, but it's a fictional place name, and big Magic sets named (partially or completely) after fictional places are always telling us the name of the plane they're set on.
I really don't think the guy on the floor is a vampire; pretty sure he's just a normal dude that Liliana offed.
HOT!
I want Lilianna to kill me!
What a goddess!
SQEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
Sakura-Con is coming up, that can be arranged...
As for the actual announcing, i had a sudden flash of possibility, One, this could be Diraden from the Purifying Fire (and Innistrad is just the et names, meaning it's held on another plane, much like the classic sets in which our friend Richard has experience.
Or, this could be the "view" we got with Leshrac's fight with Bolas from Future Sight. with the massive armies of the dead, which slightly ruins the whole Homelands revisited.
Or it could be a mixture of them both. Here's hoping.

No, look at the baron's card, now look back to the innistrad art, that's the baron writhing in agony on the left. It has to be. Why else would they be in a throne room?
Well, looking at the guy in the pic and the Baron, it could very easily be him. There is a very similar deep, dark, blood red cloth on the armor, and the shoulders are very similar. The arm armor is almost identical. The claw like hand is similar, and you can even see the pony-tail spilling out behind his head.\
I love the idea, after all the weakening that planeswalkers have undergone, that Lilliana can still just waltz right in and usurp the big, bad, Baron himself. Yay Homelands 2!
Now this set has peaked my interest. If its a horror block there may be some nice modern Sui black cards. It also seems full of flavor similar to Zendikar.

Baron Sengir is the first thing I thought of when I saw the guy on the floor. It's obviously a lot of people's first thoughts. Would they have allowed the art through unmodified if it would make so many people think of Baron Sengir if it's not him?

She probably Snuffed him Out.
And having said that, as charlequin said, this isn't very likely to be Ulgrotha. Innistrad would be an exceptionally weird word if we were.
And just to answer the question, Baron Sengir took over Ulgrotha, turning a HUGE portion of the world into vampires, appointing Ihsan's Shade as his warlord general. Barony Vampire shows that he controls enormous swathes of the land, and Time Spiral proved that he basically completely wiped out the white lands.
Wow, I must say I was honestly really confused for a second. I thought that 'Shake' was MP/NP. I was like "It's neither New Phyrexia or Mirrodin Pure..? What?" But then I got it. I'm okay now.
Actually, she still does have the tats, she's just not using her power right now. They only lit up when she was channeling mana.

This. This completely. That, and WotC said they weren't going to revisit an old plane immediately after the Scars block. Also, it's been said already, but I guess we can see why Liliana isn't in M12. Someone also mentioned the possibility of a Garruk 2.0 in this block. Maybe he'd be BG. That would be interesting. I'd like to see that.

I can see by that stupid look on your face you're confused; "Why would I reveal this to you now?" Simply put, you have no chance to escape, I put my plan into motion 35 blocks ago.

With Sorin stepping up to fill Liliana's role as the iconic black planeswalker (from the looks of the new duels images), this makes me think that chain-powered Liliana will be upgrading from standard lore role to fill some big villain shoes. Nicol Bolas and Phyrexia have been the only big villains around for awhile. Bolas and Tezzie become the anti-'heroes' helping to work against her? Sounds like a plot they might pull to me. Bit of a reach from one picture, but hey.
It doesn't necessarily mean that it's a return to Ulgrotha but maybe a return to the mysterious plane that Ulgrotha's planar portal lead to. After all Ulgrotha was devestated by the Wizard's War and that possibly made it so unsustainable Baron Sengir and his lackeys conquered Innistrad.
I'm pretty sure Maro said they wouldn't return to a old plane not neccessarily an old storyline. Wouldn't it also be a nice mirror to Scards which was an overpowered block done right while Innistrad is a ☺☺☺☺ty set done right?

That's not true at all. [looks at list of sets online/] Wait! Damn it! Your right! Any name of a big set refers to the plane it on, except of course for the ones that are metaphores for that place like arabian nights, ice age and so on. And most of the ones that have a word (like Odyssey and Mirage) instead of a place take place on Domineria anyway! DAMN IT! YOU WIN THIS ROUND CHARLEQUIN!!!
