The "sharp steel" look of the logo evokes a feeling of honor-bound conflict (especially the T, which resembles a sword's blade and crossguard pointing down), and the curve evokes the image of the curvature of a moon. Altogether, it does look quite gothic. While I doubt we're revisiting Ulgrotha (SoM block was supposed to be the testing ground for planar revisits, so the 2012 fall set will be the soonest we see another revisit), this is definitely going to look like Halloween at a goth club.
The preview pic with Lilliana supports this interpretation.
The expansion symbol, on the other hand, is a bit odd. It could be a hydra, or a castle, or a crown, or a brazier... any number of things, really. Tough to tell how it'll fit.
Looks good so far.... Richard Garfield as Design.... high expectations abound
Looks like the goth set everyone is wishing/predicting. Graveyard theme perhaps? They mentioned a while ago that if they were to have a graveyard theme they will put in appropriate flavor.
Eh, by the way, guys, GUYS, there's a minor mythology gag in the picture.
See Lily's throne? The two dragons? If you play D&D, you can recognize that those dragons are black dragons. Now what's Lily's color again?
Lol, maybe this is the Dungeons and Dragons block. And by D&D block I mean that all the planes of D&D are actually part of Dominaria and this will be the intergration.

I didn't see this anywhere, but did anyone notice how the dragons on the throne look a lot like Nicol Bolas? You don't see that shape of the horn very often.
To be fair... how can you be sure that's a black creature?
Ummmmmm Look at the surroundings, perhaps? In magic art, the dominant colour scheme of the art is usually a hint to the colour of the spell (except when it's referencing the mana energy itself and then black mana is going to be purple ect.). And exactly what self-respecting white creature or green creature would have a crib like that? He has freaking zombie-corpse-things as furniture! This chick does not count.

Article talking about GDS2 but begins with a story about Innistrad. Interesting this is supposed to be a flavour driven block. Of course previous attempts at this has been, uh, insular at best.

Totally see this based on how the newbie zone for the Worgen people from World of Warcraft. Definitely has that feel.
If you mean based on something that was pretty much a rip off of Ravenloft and countless things that came before it I can definitely see a Ravenloft type vibe and I am all for it.

Certainly resembles the little dragon imps from Bolas's Meditation Realm from Enter the Eldrazi... but I really hope they aren't going to lend legitimacy to Test of Metal and all the massive plot holes brought up with Liliana there.
It's already been said by multiple people, but Mark Rosewater and Richard Garfield on the same design team? I'm really, really looking forward to this set.
Nice to see old school painted art. Non of that SGI crap.
This could be digital art, albeit very painterly-looking digital art :P. That was the impression I got, at least.
Either way, it's absolutely gorgeous to behold.
Definitely very excited for this :).
'Vampire' was the vibe I got from the guy on the floor. That particular hairstyle and the gaunt face (which I suspect was gaunt even before he was killed) are classical vampire features in multiple fantasy settings.
However, I don't think he's the Baron at all, like what some people suggested. I wouldn't even have thought of that if someone hadn't mentioned it, and I'm surprised that so many people seemed to think it was him.
Also, 'Horror Lurks Within'? Vampires are getting so much love, are we finally going to get an epic Magic the Gathering Werewolf representation? And no, let us not speak of the 'T' word. Vampires vs Werewolves can be totally legit in this setting, if done right.

And at the same time, they've gone to great lengths to AVOID that exact issue. Last time it came up was with Knight Exemplar and how green she is. They have discouraged artists from using the color pallete of the spell for the art since way back after Mercadian Masques.
Having said that... who said that he was the owner of the place before? (but now we're just getting silly. We don't really know anything about him. Just Liliana.)

Also, vampires!
Then he was non-black. :|
Anyone would care to remind me what's Lily's native plane, though? I forgot, though maybe I'll check the webcomics again.
Speaking of slouching, is this Innistrad perhaps the plane Lily invaded soon after acquiring the Veil?
I was at his house earlier and we were discussing what she did to Garruk in the comics. Maybe it would continue the storyline of him looking for her.

Lili's homeland was never named.
Nor was the kingdom she stormed, but the style of the throne doesn't really match up with the second one.
