I don't have any hard numbers on this, but I'm targeted more often than a black guy driving a beat-up sedan with a broken tail-light and no license plate, and Cy's well aware of that.
You know? I was upset about this banlist for about 3 seconds. Then I realized that people actually have to think a little now when they build decks. The best way to test this format is to cut people off from Faeries, Caw-Blade, Valakut, Hypergenisis, Thopter, and Dredge.
Now people actually have room to innovate! While I agree that Zoo looks stupidly strong, just keep in mind that this is the first version of the ban list. Let them be aggressive banning stuff until the format actually takes off.
Its so inconsistent as well...if you are just trying to ban "overpowered" cards like JTMS, stoneforge, jitte, and bitterblossom, why wouldn't you ban something like Goyf? Thanks alot wizards for trying your best to jam aggro down all our throats, I hope a bunch of new combo decks end up prospering in your new perfect format.
I suspect the War-and-Peace-esque banlist is meant to keep things safe for the Pro Tour. After that, I think that they'll have a better idea of what can come off (and what might need to be put on).

Divide & Conquer Card Shuffler
Divide & Conquer is an Android app that completely shuffles your real deck of cards. It's great for unwieldy decks (Battle of Wits, Commander, etc.) and the paranoid thorough 40/60-card player. Check it out!

And celebrate people! This is super duper news!
I don't think that promoting a strategy of 'build decks with lots of guys' is really encouraging innovation.
I mean like..banning Mental Misstep pretty much just says 'feel free to play alot of Zoo'.
It's definitely warped Legacy (for the worse, by my estimation). I don't mind being able to play some Zoo variant.
This one, on the other hand, made no sense to me.
The "Faerie Menace" was nothing but hype; people complained about Bitterblossom (and Faeries) because the deck was difficult to beat in the hands of an experienced pilot. It rewarded good players and punished bad ones, which is why it was so dominant. That's exactly why most people whinged about the deck.
There is nothing "unfair" about Blossom. Banning it is a capitulation, nothing more, nothing less, to the wrong crowd of Magic players.
That is why it's a joke.

I am loving it. It looks like they were nipping almost every major deck played since Mirroden (Nothing against Jund).
Caw - Jace/Stoneforge
Faries - Bitterblossom
Elves - Glimpse
Valakut - Valakut
Thopther - Sword of the Meek
What Hypergensis.deck was called - Hypergensis
Affinity - Art land
Personally, other not hitting Vial, Vengevine, and Bloodbraid (?), I have nothing against the list.
I think this pretty much ensures that Extended is dead. Will anyone miss it?
Really Jace's banning surprises me. He doesn't seem all that overpowered with all the tools you have in Modern. Good, yes. Needs a ban? Not even close.
Pretty angry at Stoneforge's banning. I know it's very powerful, but I wanted to try a Death and Taxes variant in Modern and its much less good without Stoneforge.
Nothing but good things to say about about Hypergenesis's banning though.

Goyf is a beater. It's "good" but at the end of the day it's just a large creature, and in Magic we're able to deal with large creatures pretty easily. It's much, much harder to deal with a card like SFM or JTMS, which both provide immediate card advantage at the worst and can often just flat out win the game (in ways much harder to remove than a 5/6 creature).
Bitterblossom and Jitte are silly bannings, though.

SFM is banned because people can play much, much better decks than Death and Taxes. A format-warping card can be played in bad decks, but it's still format-warping in good ones.
Zoo and Merfolk seems like they're going to be MAJOR players in Modern.
Folk loses: FoW, Daze and Misstep, but they still get AETHER VIAL, which is like, glue for 'Folk decks.
Zoo traditionally beats Merfolk, so will be a contender
I'm interested to see how Rock/Junk will do in modern, they lose wastelands, vindicates and deeds, but keep Knights, Bobs and Goyfs, and removal can be substituted (Pulse etc.)
It looks like they just want Aggro to be real for awhile. It's weird that Jitte got banned, but neither Vial nor Bloodbraid Elf did.
Bloodbraid is good but I can see them keeping it around, but letting Vial stick around confuses me. Oh well, we shall see how long it sticks around, free Tarmogoyfs are fun!

Don't mind my posts, they are probably just a product of gang violence
so goyfs and shock lands are going to see a huge price jump then? as if the shocks doubling in price from commander wasnt enough. Oh well, still just another format for people around here to play. well, legacy here doesnt count, people just play horrible tribal decks, or bad strategies and call it "legacy". People that build good decks are just going to smash everyone every single week like always. Just now going to happen in modern as well... :/
That being said, shocks almost sold out on SCG. hallowed fountain at 35. was like 20 a week ago. damn.
