The Planeswalker novels are actually of pretty good quality. The block novels, though, have been suffering horribly. But don't let those put you off all M:TG books, they're not all bad.
This is a Magic: the Gathering story. It is basically professionally edited and marketed fan-fiction at this point. It's some of the worst stuff I've ever read, and even though I no longer read the books, reading plot summaries on boards like this still makes me cringe. As excited as I am about Innistrad, every mention of Sorin or Lilianna just puts a damper on my enthusiasm. In my opinion, the storyline is actively detracting from the game, even though I try to ignore it.
QFT in spades! ever since they thought they were writers and quit using classic literature qoutes the flavor text has declined. Every now and then there is a pretty good one but overall bleh. I never even tried to get into the storyline and this reconfirms my decision. Stick to card design Wizards, we don't mind!

Like Dragonlance quality then? If so I'll pass. No offense and I am sure the writers are crying all the way to the bank.

They do still use literary quotes on Core Set cards. Diminish is a recent example.

Where did this idea come from? The real-world literature flavor text never went anywhere... they started using them in Alpha, and have continued using them in every. single. core. set. Why do people keep talking about them dropping real-world flavor text?
But on the larger point, yeah, I'll be shocked if the storyline produces a readable novel. It's a shame, really, because I'm a total geek and I could definitely get into a series of books about high fantasy dimensional travelers scheming and battling across the multiverse, but I just can't believe that these are ever going to be more than marketing tie-ins.
Ironically, the guy holding the picture of Creepy Doll is creepier than the picture.
Conspiracy! The guy who won the art is the guy who modeled for it!
In all seriousness marketing brilliance on the part of wotc, even if by accident. I'll be creeped out by the name innistrad even if the set flavor sucks just by thinking of that picture.
Because conservative bias is a far, far worse thing. Liberal bias doesn't, statistically speaking, make people stupid. Conservative bias (or at least Fox's version of it) does.
I once farted during the final match for prizes at an FNM. It was a tense moment, everything was quiet, control vs control, I was about to mana leak, thought about it.. and farted. Then mana leaked.

Not to steer too off topic, but I actually have read of few of the books... and the thing that really bugged me about the books, the sheer amount of typos. I'm not kidding, I remember reading through a few pages and being amazed at how lazy the editor must have been.
Anyway, Innistrad is going to be awesome. I can't wait to play it... once I get back from my study abroad trip.

On a related note, did anyone in the Q&A ask if there'd be more Planeswalker novels? The last one was last year.
MaRo also said, in response to a question, that vampires, zombies, and werewolves werent going to be the extent of the horror element. he did mention ghosts.
werewolves will exist in r/g, vampires in b/r.
it was also confirmed that they were going forward with 'overextended' for MTGO, did not comment on whether or not it would be replacing eternal formats as a WOTC sponsored format.
he said that the second plainswalker would be one that we already knew.
he also showed promo art for the second set that clearly depicted sorrin. he said that while he couldnt tell us who the plainswalker in the second set would be, he could show us art of him.
I am so looking forward to more blue zombies for the Dralnu Commander deck I'm putting together. Hell, for that matter a U/ zombie legend that actually cares about zombies instead of instants and sorceries would be nice.
I felt a great disturbance in the force, like a thousand decks across several formats suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has been printed
Yeah, but Liliana isn't blue, so she's destined never be that good.
tell that to yawgmoth, he would like to have a word with youyawgmoths bargain, yawgmoths will, not to mention all of the broken tutors black has gotten. being black gives her at least as much right to be powerful as blue. who needs brainstorm when you have demonic consultation?

Well, those cards are all banned in their respective blocks, banned in legacy and restricted in vintage. In modern formats onwards, blue, by its nature is always going to be overpowered, every blue planeswalker has been used in several formats unlike black planeswalkers who've been thrown into the occasional deck or two.
I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it. They've been pretty cautious since Jace, the mind sculptor and the M12 planeswalkers are nowhere near as insane as Jace 2.0 or even as strong as Koth.
What might be insane? She loses her spark and they make her into a legendary creature...

I play vintage on the reg, you don't have to tell me how good Yawgmoths and friends are. But blue has a longer and more current history of being absolutely busted.
What might be insane? She loses her spark and they make her into a legendary creature...
Which would be not outside the realm of possibility considering that the art for her that we have is not PW art and we have a ton of possible PWs that could be in INN
He points out that Liliana is in ISD, then specifies that there are two planeswalkers. By this wording, it could be that Liliana is no longer a planeswalker and there are two other planeswalkers. Or seeing as the picture of Liliana we have from ISD http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/stf/152 doesn't have her tattoos, ISD might be set in a time before she becomes a planeswalker.

Where is the confirmation? I must have missed that. I saw a kid holding some art of the dolls. I guessed it was some kind of artifact.

I haven't read any Dragonlance novels so I couldn't say. They're enjoyable on their own merits, at least, and not just "good for a Magic novel."

Remember the last time they talked about a Planeswalker this much in a set?
(Hint: He brainstorms.)
Yeah, but Liliana isn't blue, so she's destined never be that good.
I'm betting Avon, it looks a lot like Heap Doll
Modern:
Bant Eldrazi
Merfolk
Abzan Company
EDH:
Mono-Green Omnath
Mono-White Odric Soup
Mono-Blue Muzzio
Mono-Red Feldon

thats all i can remember right now.
Though it wouldn't make much (if any) sense, I would love to see a new :symg:/:symw: Ajani!
Could that be the merfolk chick??? Hope so
