Notice the Dragon Tattoo on his arm and it's similarity to runes and tattoos of Ugin from the Comics and Ghostfire.
I did not notice that... interesting.
It's also serpentine it looks like as opposed to the classical European design used for Niv.
Also everything about this card, from his posture and hand placement, to his smirk and the background just SCREAMS confidence. He KNOWS he's some kind of badass and he just doesn't care.

Brian Tinsman, Set Designer :?mana::snow::snow:
Legendary Creature – Human Designer (MR)
Brian Tinsman, Set Designer can only be cast during the third set of a block.
When Brian Tinsman, Set Designer enters the battlefield, ignore all flavor and mechanics of the first two sets in the block. "Ok so what do we have here... gothic horror? Scrap it. Expand the Devine Vs. Demonic duel deck to 244 cards and print it!"

To be honest it looks izzet, and like ertai.
Like a cool non-corrupted ertai,I think its the hair.
Like that mermaid chick it might be a while before we see a card version.
The only clues we get are from its duel deck and picture, but like how everyone said that nissa looks black and green, and even though her duel deck is black and green she came out just green.
Cool names for his planes walker card :
ral zarek,storm chaser
Ral zarek lighting breather
Ral zarek,cooler ertai
Ral zarek, that Mother****er that isn't a planeswalker card even though wizards paid for its art and looks sweet but might only be for a video game, the dragon armed.
Ral Zarek, Storm Chaser would be a BADASS name for a planeswalker.
Funky armcontraptions! Izzet has alwayyyys been my favorite. Even if we aren't headed to Ravnica anytime soon, I think Wizards recognizes it as an awesome setting to draw from.
I was still holding my breath for a reintroduction of Niv-Mizzet as the first U/ Planeswalker, but I guess it's time to let it go.
This is definitely an Izzet mage. Not like Chandra, where Aleksi Briclot just borrowed the gauged wristguards and goggles from an Izzet styleguide.
Come on, he has even the same style of blue and red clothing, and the city in the background is Ravnica (well, save for the levitating buildings that we have not seen before...but that does not mean that they do not exist.
Judging by Elspeth Tirel's art (That does not look like Mirrodin), Planeswalker background art does not have to match the art from the block they're in.
Come on, he has even the same style of blue and red clothing, and the city in the background is Ravnica (well, save for the levitating buildings that we have not seen before...but that does not mean that they do not exist.
Actually we have seen them before, if you look closely at this comparsion from page two:

If they don't do something cool with this guy in regular magic, I will be very dissappointed. That design is just too cool. He gives me a different kind of smart guy feel than Venser. If he gets a PW that has spell copying would be sick.
Ravnica in the art is interesting. Would the card have that art in a non-Ravnica set?
For a planeswalker, sure. Jace Beleren's art isn't anywhere on Lorwyn. Sorin Markov's art isn't necessarily on Zendikar (though it could be). Planeswalkers aren't tied to one plane, and neither is their art.
There is absolutely no doubt that this is from Ravnica. None. Who knows, maybe INNISTRAD is just the name that the Orzhov gave Ravnica after it crumpled. The backgrounds in the art look fairly Orzhov-ish.
This guy is so damn cool.

11:15, restate my assumptions: 1. Mathematics is the language of nature. 2. Everything around us can be represented and understood through numbers. 3. If you graph these numbers, patterns emerge. Therefore: There are patterns everywhere in nature. - Maximillian Cohen.
I highly doubt they'd make a shapeshifter walker and have his default art be an Izzet guy in Ravnica. The only way I could see him being a shapeshifter is if he underwent a few unfortunate experiments involving Aether.
Ravnica didn't have floating castles. I don't even know if it ever had rain. This is not Ravnica, or at least not Ravnica in the present as we know it.
We haven't seen big cities like this in Magic except in Ravnica, but that doesn't mean that there aren't more out there.

Those aren't castles. They're small structures floating. It really doesn't look much like Ravnica at all. It looks like it fits in very well with Liliana's art from the Innistrad teaser. I know that he is wearing Izzet clothing, but that doesn't mean that he is only going to be found in Ravnica.
Look at the art of Skirsdag Cultist. In the background, there are windows with the same type of architecture of the castle behind Ral. Outside the window, there is another close building very close by, which indicates a city. Liliana is in a castle with more similar architecture.
Now, Innistrad could possibly be Ravnica in the distant future or past, or possibly cursed by Bolas or Lily, but I believe that the art of Ral is on Innistrad, wherever that may be.

Just found it interesting that the tatoo looks more like Ugin than Niv Mizzet

Or, who knows... Ral Zarek, Thunderstruck?
GGG [Primer] Omnath, Big Green Beatstick Machine GGG
His deck file is called "STORM"... and Kiora's is called "OCTOMANCER"
Dear lord, print her as Kiora, Octomancer and him as Ral Zarek, Storm Chaser/Conjurer/etc. That'd be amazing.

Izzet style clothing, lightning magics, mad scientist look = a no-brainer.

As for the levitating buildings, there are some in Ravnica.
Thanks to Syndarion of Aeternal Studios for my sig!
Actually we have seen them before, if you look closely at this comparsion from page two:
you can see that the buildings appear on the plains as well, in the distant background.
It could be Ravnica, but I think it also looks somewhat similar to the buildings in Murder of Crow's art.

Indeed! Sorry for overlooking it, it is almost 2 a.m. here... So that seals it - it's definitely Ravnica.
