Totally not implying that it is. SImply stating that in my area it's quite possible for someone to hit up a midnight on Friday, then a 9am, then a 2pm, then a 5pm Helavault event by store hopping the smaller shops. And that doesn't count Sunday. But I suspect the demand for whatever is in these things won't be THAT major, and it's likely something cool mixed with some stuff that a few people won't even care about. It's a fun promotion, but outside of a cute promo... I won't expect all three prizes to blow the doors off.
And my point (since I'm the one that first brought it up) is that if store "A" is holding their Helvault event at 11am and it's full (let's say they're using the minimum number of what... 54?), people are more likely to jump over to store "B" that's holding their event at 2pm. Once at store B, those players aren't going to leave to go back to store A for any other events.
I really don't know what my suggestion will be to my local store as to what kind of cap to put on the Helvault event. Right now I'm leaning towards minimum players for Saturday and maximum on Sunday to drive up Sunday attendance. I think the final decisions won't be made until the contents are spoiled in the days before.

I think you mean Plane - Innistrad. I doubt it's this; the appeal would be very narrow.
Yes, I meant Plane - Innistrad, but the location of the plane card would be the Helvault. I don't know that I agree with you about the appeal level, but I also never really had alot of faith a plane card would be one of the items inside the Helvault. I was just throwing out an idea.
In all actuallity, I think there will be promos of some sort inside it.

My concern was more a "people are going to drop once the Vault is cracked, they get thier swag, and jump ship to the next store." It's not a big deal really, but just would stink if the Vault gets opened mid-tournament and then half the people leave. But I'm guessing the Vault won't be fully opened until the last round... but even if not... more prize support for those who stick around I guess!

It's definitely not a problem. It makes it far easier for me to win the big swag that all of the people who dropped can't get now.

In response to me defeating the town in a Perfect Scum Victory in Avatar Mafia:
I was thinking that logic would put the best prize in the last round so that you have to play, and get nothing (or not so good prizes) for dropping, otherwise the hellvault will be a waste of time in most places, luckily not mine
It's possible that the Vault has tiers on the inside, so the prizes are released gradually. If that is indeed the case, then my light worry is moot.
If they do this then the hype of the helvault can be kept until the final round unless someone opens 1 before hand, but i'm guessing wizards would be pretty annoyed at that happening when they've been so vague about the prizes.
I think this will happen. Rarely have I seen them be able to keep this kind of a secret for long. Besides, all of the midnight events out there, it's going to be very hard not to check the web before you leave on Sat morning... even if you do, there is always that one dude who was at the midnight one the night before and is all well too happy to tell everyone withint shouting distance what's all in it.
Yeah, I'm hoping they do as my local store is doing a midnight prerelease with the helvault. Although like you said I cant see it happening just wishful thinking
It depends on the shop. The one I frequent for prereleases doesn't do midnights, but they also cater to an older crowd. The one down the street is the college and teen crowd... midnights are very popular there.
Wether or not they'll be "allowed" to do Hellvaults at midnights is the real question. I can't see why not. It's not like we won't find out from Australia on Sat morning as it is!
The preleases at my store generally see over 100 people (about 150 in Innistrad's prerelease), so I'm having a hard time seeing that this helvault event will be able to supply enough prizes for everyone. Let alone the fact that holding this event will drive more players to the prereleases.
Maybe inside lies a code that everyone can use to later come back to the store for a promo, kinda like the promo titans.
Either that or there will be a couple hundred of the promo printed in each helvault, which in that case yeah the value of that promo wouldn't be very high due to massive supply.
May not even be a promo though.

My main shop usually has two large prereleases, one on Sat one on Sun. I asked them how they were handling this event since the numbers were limited, they said they are breaking it down to 1 Helvault event and 1 non-Helvault event on each day... first come first serve, spaces limited. So if you don't sign up ahead of time, no swag for you.

Well then, sounds like I'm heading to my store to see if I can sign up early.

Which is something that WOTC has been saying since they "officially" announced the event. Sign up early and be able to participate. They've made no bones about this being a limited number of players. It just won't matter for some areas that have one shop and just enough players to fill the one event.
Rarely have I seen them be able to keep this kind of a secret for long.
This is completely true. There are people out there (outside of wizards) who know what's in the Helvault. The thing keeping them silent now is that if the contents were revealed, it would be very easy to track who revealed them, and that would be very bad for whatever company let it slip.
I have it on good word that the contents are "very good" and that players are going to be very excited about what is there. Take that however you would like.
I have no doubt that the prizes inside will be a hoot. That's the one thing that wants me to keep it secret for as long as possible. I want that "OMG Xmas day" feeling!
I'm sure it won't be for everybody, and it's more than likely that people unable to attend will be able to get their's on ebay soon afterward. But still... I will wear that slapbracelet proud on the day of.
Tidbits:
The Helvault stands 2.5 ft tall.
Prize distribution for Helvault contents has been recommended to be done at the end of the event, so as to avoid chaos and such. (All remaining seals can be broken by the TO at this time. Helvault does not carry over to another event)

Well at least this debunks the "50 lbs" thing (I hope)... that and good to know that if we "fail" the hoops they make everyone jump through... people still get stuff.

The press release info on this thing specifically says that people will slowly be able to unlock the helvault as the event goes on. There's was never any concern of people "jumping ship".
based on the direction these prereleases have been going the past year or two some sort of "friendship" bs where everyone gets to work as a team and earn "achievements" such as brushing one's teeth and using deodorant.

Which only helps us all in the end... free swag and the freshest smelling game store in the nation! WOOT!
I would say though, yes, it'll be a series of things like "the most angels on the battlefield at one time" and "First person to kill a demon with X card."

I was thinking more along the lines of "first person to take a bathroom break" and "when someone orders a pizza" or my personal favorite, "15th person to finish a Mountain Dew".
