I will have them all. As RUG is my favorite wedge, and I love cascade and big creatures and Animar, I just squealed a bit.
I also hope against hope that there will be a new GU legendary creature in the mix, something jungle-esque in flavor. If it's aura-based (Savage Auras? Hmmm?), I will crap myself with glee.
Also, GU currently only has 3 legendary creatures to choose from, the fewest of all the color combos (save 4-color of course). That is reason enough to include a new GU legend - YOU HEAR ME WIZARDS?
I will be spending money on this either way.
For the color combination this seems to be an super awesome Commander.
With Momir and Animar it can even "combo" out.
Seems to be an awesome card, and i highly enjoy this products exactly for this type of creature / which pretty much does not matter at all for a "normal" magic set and they can easily produce cards that are just cool without a real story background.
The "offical" Planechase rulez kinda suck ; but its not difficult to use them in a normal EDH game to spice something up.
Planechase is a great addition to EDH games, especially if you want to add a random element to play. In our playgroup it can "balance" combo Decks and give some of the "weaker" budget EDH decks a chance to win. Recently I introduced the eternal Map to them but they didn't like it, a huge pile was prefered.
dito here, not that it was bad using the eternity map it jsut did not add the element we were looking for and we will be going back to the central pile most likely. I did introduce the two scheme max hand size for archenemy though and that was a big hit (only one scheme per turn can be played)
Since they've already broken bounds by printing cards like Command Tower, what do you think the likelihood of an effect that allows a player to planeswalk, "cause chaos", or roll the planar die being printed on a non-plane card? Forgive me for possibly creating custom cards out of board but these are just mere examples.
"name placeholder" [colorless mana cost, possibly 0]
Sorcery {C}
Roll the planar die. This roll does not increase the mana cost to roll the planar die again.
"name placeholder" [colorless mana cost, possibly 5/6]
Enchantment {R}
Whenever you planeswalk, cause chaos. (Chaos is the C symbol.)
You know, stuff like that? It's rather Planechase specific but it caters to the planechase players in the same way Command Tower does for Commander players, so I feel it might happen (that said I'm merely hoping at this point). And even if it has an extra effect to it, like a generic "Draw a card." or "~ deals 1 damage to such and such" for an extra 1 mana, it can be printed with a use further than planechase.
....then don't play it. It's probably the second-best card in EDH.
It's absolutely not one of the best cards in edh. It is one of the best color fixing lands in edh though.
None of that changes what a terribly designed card it is. The ability is really dumb and as you can see people already expect more cards that only function in specific variants of magic. I hate that card.
Whoa there, hate's a pretty strong word for cardboard with value, dontcha think?
After all, it's not like it's broken or complete crud like some other cards, right?
WHY do you hate it? The design may be poor to you, but to those who almost exclusively play EDH (people like me, and believe me, there are a LOT of us), it's a wonderful thing to have, even in singleton (per 3-color or 5-color decks).
I play a huge amount of edh it's by far the format I play most.
I don't think cards should exist that can only be played in one variant, it's silly. It is good and I do play it but it is a lame design and a cop out.

It was a card designed specifically and perfectly for one variant type of magic and sold exclusively in a product that you would only buy if you were going to play that same variant. I really don't see the harm. It's not a cop out to create format specific cards in products designed for only that format. No one who buys a Commander deck is going to be disappointed that they get a card they can only play in commander...cause they're obviously going to play commander!

I wonder how they fix the "ninja being in the commande zone and not in your hand" problem. if they gonna fix it.(or look after it at all)
They aren't.They didn't make a special rule for Phage.Should i even mention Higure & Ink-Eyes already have that problem.
Furthermore its going to be in a Planechase product, not a Commander one.The focus is on new planes and phenomenans. The new cards are just a sweet bonus.

This really needs to be stressed again and again.
From what I remember of the reveal of Command Tower a lot of players were hoping for new 2-5 color lands for Vintage and Legacy. There was talk of everything from Snow Duals to enemy tri-lands. The problem Wizards faced is that they needed a land that would help EDH players but NOT players in Eternal formats.
I chalange ANYONE, to design a land that...
1. Helps EDH
2. Doesn't apeal to players in Vintage and Legacy
3. Won't cause players to buy Commander decks just to rip them apart for the land to play in a format other then EDH
If you can do that then you prove to me that Command Tower is a "bad design". If you can't then then mabe it's a better card then you give it credit.

And on that note, I am here to ask a fair question about the information release d about the topic mentioned in the thread.
What's your thoughts: Do you guys think the next Commander decks mentioned in the post will be enemy 3 colored decks again? Or will we see ally 3 color decks, such as the 3 colored Shards of Alara?
I would bet money that the next commander precons will not be wedge colored. I don't think they would do the same thing twice in a row, especially if these planechase decks are wedge colored.
I would guess we'll see shards 3 color or 2 color. Wotc will probably try and print 4 color legends too at some point since those would have a lot of obvious appeal.
Yes, they once stated that it was a pity that the Nephilim cycle was not legendary.
that being said and the fact that they adore Edh and want to support it in many ways it's not a question of "if" but of when will they come.
anyway whe're drifting off topic this way :P.
Ihave good hopes of any precon coming 2012, Wizards is doing better and better at those.
Maybe we will see some new Nephilim-like cards that are legendary then?

The trouble with doing shards is that there isn't quite the need for arc legends as there was for wedge legends. Even if we assume that Maelstrom Wanderer represents a full cycle of wedge legends, the number of arc legends is still more than double that of wedge legends (the split between each trio is reasonably even, Naya has the fewest at 7, Grixis and Esper are tied for first at 10. Meanwhile the only non-cycle wedge legend is Doran, the Siege Tower). Given this, I think it's most likely that they will be 4-colour, despite the stated shortcomings. The first Commander product was supposed to fill the gap in wedge legends and it succeeded in that. Now the biggest gap that needs filling is 4-colour legends.
If you have the mana-fixing for 4 color, then you can easily do 5..and there's no way that a good 4 color deck will ever be better than a good 5 color deck.
I once farted during the final match for prizes at an FNM. It was a tense moment, everything was quiet, control vs control, I was about to mana leak, thought about it.. and farted. Then mana leaked.

That's quite an assumption to make, given that you don't know what these hypothetical 4 color legends would do. Such creatures may have abilities that outweigh the benefits of a 5th color. Most of the 5 color legends don't have much focus, they're chosen for their versatility (with the sliver legends being obvious exceptions) but 4 color could potentially give a bit more direction. I mean, they could be worth it, they could not be, they could not even exist. The point is it's silly to assume that a 4 color EDH deck would be inherently worse than a 5 color one when there is no evidence to support or disprove the claim. I think that's exactly why people want 4 color legends, because there aren't any yet and it would just be cool to see how they were done. After all, in EDH people frequently make deck building decisions based on what they think is cool more than what they know is good.

2. Good Decks Have Good Plans

As far as the decks go, I just hope they aren't loaded with things that people want more than the product. I just hate it when people buy them just so they can cannibalize the decks inside for a few key cards. Just a peeve of mine.
