There has to be something broken you can do with Mana Bloom right? I mean, it just seems like this kind of ability is just itching to be exploited somehow.

My apologies if this has already been asked, but do Deathrite Shaman's abilities fizzle if the targeted cards are removed from the graveyard in response?

I play casual Magic for the most part. I've been playing on and off since Invasion block.
My apologies if this has already been asked, but do Deathrite Shaman's abilities fizzle if the targeted cards are removed from the graveyard in response?
I believe it's part of the cost of the ability, so no, it does not fizzle.
The effect could prove so discombobulating to combo players, in particularly, they may fizzle and run away screaming. "From that day the Curse of the Plateau was upon me, and I found every hand I ever pull from a combo deck is a mulligan."

Actually, yeah they do, since they no longer have legal targets. These are effects, not costs, because they appear after the colon. However, I'm not sure about the first ability since it is a mana ability, that it's even possible for it to fizzle. Regardless, there is a "Rumred Card Rulings" Subforum below the New Card Discussion subforum, which is just the venue for this kind of talk.
It fizzles too, because it's actually not a mana ability at all; part of the requirements for being a mana ability is not having any targets.
It's also a sign that they didn't want to make a strictly-better Wind Drake and Wild Griffin simultaneously. The card is still a fine limited creature at 1HH, and rewards commitment to one or the other of its colours.
This...
...makes a remarkable amount of sense. Which goes to show that I shouldn't be designing cards.
Anyway, I'm surprised by the very few references to the Golgari business of rotfarming. At least Selesnya stays true to its roots of token farming.
Also, there are a lot of humans in this set. But I'm glad to see there are quite a few random Beasts going around.
I think this card needed something else to put it at the same power level as the other one mana hybrid creatures. Would 1/2 with unleash have been too strong? I don't think so.
Alternately, 1/1 first strike with unleash would have been good too. As would have 1/1 unleash with 1 damage to target creature on entering the battlefield.
As it is it's a good card but noticeably not as good as some of the others in the cycle.
they reprinted the richard wright lands!! they're soooooo beautiful. this set wasn't john avon's best work.
I don't follow the art very much and I am certainly no expert; but he seems to have done a very similar look for one of the cards for each color; the overhead, tall, skinny spires look. It's kind of repetitive but maybe that's what Wizards wanted, at least one land that looked like an image of the same city scape in each color?
The Yeong-Hao Han lands are more interesting to me. Many of them actually look more like the type of land they are; for example, his mountain really looks like a city in the shape of a mountain. And the forest looks much more forest-y, although somewhat less city-ish than the other cards.

Apparently red cannot have access to good 1 drops because Goblin Guide touched someone in R&D in a funny way and they're thraumatized ever since.
These people need to resign, they only printed Ash Zealot because they were afraid Burning Vengeance was gonna dominate standard

I disagree. A one-mana red creature with 2 power with basically no drawback is actually incredibly strong. This is easily the best of the cycle and may be one of the best cards in the entire set.
Exactly. 12 1 mana 2 power creatures in a turbo aggro deck is better than just 8.
The Golgari Zombies that you've been seeing on SCG is going to be the weaker/slower zombies. Watch out for Jund Zombies. It will be faster than most people are expecting.
I like your enthusiasm, but I think you might be missing how quickly it will be outclassed - a lot of the GW cards are very big, very quickly.
Or maybe I am overestimating the impact of GW on the meta?
I think GW got some pretty decent tools but not the best imaginable aside from the functional watchwolf reprint and dryad militiant.
Just last formate we were talking about how awesome a 2/2 with a minor draw back would be in red and now it's in both red and black, a color already rising up to be the most powerful aggro couple. In addition there's a slew of other cards that make decent use of unleash and shred freak is dang good as well, and more hybrid cards means that golgari can get into the mix easily for more midrange life. Though the golgari bit also plays in part with GW since they get a small slice of that pie as well like the shaman, but Red is looking better now than is has been in forever and I'm loving it.
Now if only I could get that electrolyze reprint so UR will start being awesome.
There's still 1 U, 1 R, 1 hybrid, 1 Rakdos and 2 artifacts to spoil, let's hope for that 1 mana haste creature or burn spell and aggro is ready to play.

Well for one it is much more playable in a dual/tri colored deck having a hybrid cost. Secondly it comes into play untapped meaning if you have a source granting haste it can attack straight away. Thirdly if the need arises where you need a blocker NOW, it can come in with the ability to block unlike Diregraf Ghoul which is almost always a miserable topdeck.
THIS. One of Zombies' weaknesses is that it has trouble defending if caught on its back foot or dependent on its 1-drops. Having 8 1-drops that CIP unable to block and 4 that stay that way makes for awkward hands and board position more often than is comfortable. Having the flexibility to bring the 1-drop in as a chump blocker can save a ton of damage in the right situations. I'm not saying that this makes the card an auto 4-of in Zombie decks as his lack of tribal affiliation is less-than-ideal, but it will be an option in some metas.
Likewise, Cackler presents the very best option thus far for giving BR Vampires a workable, dependable 1-drop creature for more aggro builds. Stromkirk Noble is a great card, but it doesn't work mana-wise in black-dominant vamp builds. Cackler flexes. The hybrid mana also means it can function as a 1-drop in evolving RDW (or RbDW) builds.
Bottom line, Rakdos Cackler may not be the strongest 1-drop to come down the pipe, but it is a flexible answer to a number of current deck construction issues.
Look. Red decks really like 2 power 1 drops. This does that, with a x/2 body to back it up to protect it a little from removal. Obviously will see play.

I think that all of these 1 drops are about to get a lot worse. Aggro typically loses to midrange, and a lot of the new decks are going to be midrange. A 2/2 for 1 is a lot less impressive against Jund than it is against Delver. Zombies will be good out of the gate, but I think it might get hated out. We'll see.
The missing hybrid card is known. It was Azor's Elocutors.
Card's we're still missing:
* Golgari Charm
* A red-black multicolor card which name begins with "Rakdos" (Uncommon)
* Artifact 1 (Rare)
* Artifact 2 (Uncommon)
* A blue card (rare, I believe)
* A red card (mythic rare, I think)
* One Multicolor card (Probably a Selesnya Mythic Rare)
* Effect of the Azorius Keyrune.
On today arcana they show dragon token,
I suspect the red mythic will be Sorcery with X casting cost and producing dragon token.
And maybe the GW Selesnya also X casting cost making wurm token.
Wizards print good rares, players complain about cash grab. They print underwhelming rares, players complain that the cards suck. They spoil the best cards first, players complain about the insane prices of preorders. They spoil the meh cards first, players complain that this is the worst set ever.
So. I think I understand now.
As far as these forums are concerned, WotC can never do anything good because:
Card that is new and probably good = "pushed"
Card that is new and probably bad = "EDH/casual fodder"
Card that is a reprint = "lazy"
Card that is a better version of an older card = "power creep"
Card that is a weaker version of an older card = "worthless"
Does that about sum things up?

Heh, that's my least favorite card of the set. Just goes to show how much individual opinions can vary.:D
My favorite card of the set is probably Havoc Festival.
Thanks to Rivenor of Miraculous Recovery Signatures!
Even I would admit that the average quality of red creatures in this set is higher than the last few sets. So, baby steps, but still, progress.
