I think the rule changes makes sense (not from a flavor perspective of course) but from a rules perspective. It does not make sense using Metamorph as Legend removal or Beleran as JTMS removal.
Ochimusha, that is what I though as well. That or a legend block in development to be seen 2 years from now.
Clone and such were not meant to act as Hero's Demise. And new players who have trouble keeping up with confusing board states or seldom used rules in multilayer games will no longer feel bad for making those rare mistakes.

Oy, the Chicken Littles are out in force. I love the new Legend rule, the previous ones always felt weird. Yeah, it'll change how clones are played, but maybe that means they can be a little cheaper, and it will allow for much more interesting games/card designs. In my opinion. But c'mon, I have to assume the gameplay is still fun, cuz can we just think for a bleeding second that they know what they're doing over at HQ?
EDIT: Goblins player above seems to have enumerated a pretty significant impact.
Yeah, there are a number of definite consequences for Legacy due to the changes (Legendary rules and Sideboard rules). I can think of a handful right off the bat. Not sure if they are good or bad yet, but I guess time will tell.
Anyone following MaRo's tumblr must've known it was only a matter of time until this happened. He's hated the fact that Legendary was basically a weakness at all times, when it should be something beneficial.
Oh man. Theoretically these changes do make sense but... some generals in EDH are just ridiculous now. Uril the Mist Stalker is gonna be soooo annoying now with no way to kill him using clones
Whether we like the changes or not, how big is the net impact on most non-Commander constructed formats? We get about three months of super Geist of Saint Traft in Standard before it rotates out of the format, and even buffed, it probably isn't any more or less broken than things you can already do in Modern and Legacy.
EDIT: Goblins player above seems to have enumerated a pretty significant impact.
There's a big indication that Theros is gonna be legendary focused...
Very disappointed in the rules changes. Makes no sense from a flavor stand point (allied to the same person/creature at the same time?). Can't wait to get into suiciding legends into themselves .
Ex: "I attack with Ruric Thar. I block Ruric Thar with Ruric Thar."
Overall this is one of the worst choices WotC has made that I can remember.
Perhaps a change of rules to help sales of Theros (assuming its a legendary-intensive block). Otherwise perhaps a move for multi-player formats like commander so everyone can play whatever they want regardless of everyone else. Who knows.
Commander is changed forever. I expect to see some massive banlist changes with these new rules. Uril and other voltron commanders got an insane buff.
Depends on which way you look at it. True they no longer serve as removal, but on the plus side, you can copy an 8 drop for 2-4 mana and keep it. There's going to be a lot of shenanigans with mulitple legendary creatures in play now.
I'm very, very dissapointed with this rule update. Also leyline of singularity is very unhappy tonight.

I wish my 4/4s with haste and first strike that acted as Goblin Warchiefs were better and didn't die to instants and overshadowed all other 4 drops in the format. And that they had evasion too, and some way to dodge wrath effects.

It's still a weakness, just not as much of one. I don't think it's reasonable to extrapolate that this would happen from MaRo's posts; he's not in charge of the rules, after all.
(Note that under the old old legend rule, being a legend could be an advantage, if you landed it first...)
As a fan of clones, I'm actually pretty happy with this change. There have been many casual or EDH games where the only good targets out on the field are legendary. Sure, Sakashima and Lazav lose out on their uniqueness, but I feel this change will be a good change overall for Magic. I definitely see how it promotes fun play and makes planeswalkers that much cooler. Geist of Saint Traft will be something to deal with in Eternal formats, but we're already seeing format scalpels being printed. Renounce the Guilds is being used as we speak.
Wizards has officially killed Sakashima the Imposter I hope someone dies of kidney failure for this. Going out to stock up on native American traditional curse supplies now.

If this is the case, though, the game's been changed in accordance with this going forward, so it's an entirely new experience, as opposed to the three months or so we'll be playing with the new rules before INN block rotates.
My primary worry is what happens during the Wild Wild West period from rule changes to INN being out. I trust (perhaps naively) that if Theros is Legend heavy, they're not making Geist 2.0 or Sigarda 2.0 or something good enough to totally warp Standard around without being able to clone it to death.

This sort of change all started with mana burn being removed, but that at least wasn't so major since it legitimately wasn't something most players had any need to deal with.
But this is just further examples of how they are dumbing the game down by removing ALL DOWNSIDES. I'd dare say it's starting to get cancerous.

Whelp, time to unload all my Clone variants from my Commander decks. Dealing with a beefed up indestructible Sigarda is going to be so much fun...
Why let it be that way for 10+ years then?
It doesn't make flavor sense for 2 Geist of St. Traft to be on the field at once either.
Sideboard thing is cool though. :3

HOWEVER the new legend rule is just bonkers. as stated GoST is kinda of hard to deal with without "sac a creature" and clone effects.
