Thougthseize is needed in Modern to keep certain strategies in check, but I REALLY don't want it in standard. It's an unfun card makes it easy to pick apart synergistic decks because you can remove key pieces, and that just adds to the problems that powerful mythic rares already create. Thoughtseize should never be allowed in standard again.

Believe that I will be even happier to use my thoughtseize against your aggressive deck. There are almost no bad targets, and the trade of 2 life to kill your creature is fantastic, especially if your curve is fragile and I timewalk you with it or if the creature had haste.
but then you only get 1 standard type and 2 nimbus mazes and you are missing 1 color ;). thats why a nimbus maze cycle is slightly weaker than the checklands together with shocks.
I can see Magma Jet being in the set, but people are really letting MaRo get in their heads if they think his "a card that wasn't in MM" comment meant anything other than a card that seemed like an obvious exclusion ala Mutavault.
I HOPE that we get magma jet back. would be so freaking awesome. too bad i sold my playset a few weeks ago...
but nvm, since its an uncommon i think that was a good choice since it will drop in price when it gets into standard.
red burn would be awesome with magma jet and other decks would play it too i guess.
the only thing missing is a 1 mana burn which can exile voice^^
It wont happen, but what I would absolutely LOVE to see would be a VERY conditional, and fateful Time walk.
Something like:
"When Medomai, Time Walker deals combat damage to an opponent, you may take another turn after this one. If you do not win the game on this next turn, you lose the game."
A very unique Time Walk would be cool.
"When Medomai, Time Walker deals combat damage to an opponent, you may take another turn after this one. If you do, exile your library, then place your hand on top of your library in any order. Return Medomai, Time Walker to your hand."
I iz allergic to trollz and feeling very skeptic.
Medomai's ability sounds very red. So red that it sounds like Final Fortune and Second Chance kind of cards. Also why is it a U/W legend if it had the "all-or-nothing" version of timewalk that belongs to red?
Also green snake god? You mean Patron of the Orochi right? As only green goddess I see at this point is the archer lady.
Thoughtseize in this block...somewhere. Very vague. So vague in fact that it might as well be when people speculated from Futuresight to Scars of Mirrodin when Poison counters would come back.
or you could play a Glacial Fortress and have it do the exact same thing.
Right but its when you get into trying to play 3 colors that Nimbus Maze gets worse than the Checks. Wizards is clearly trying to get rid of three color decks as a thing in standard by pushing mono-color (devotion) and making fixing worse.
Beside that Checklands are better colorfixing (especially in 3+ colors) and more consistent overall.
In standard a Maze cycle would be better in/if:
A: 3 colors decks with cards very splashable ( N RW , N2 RB , N3 BW.. ...)
B: Cards that are not color intensive
C: The deck overall has litle amount of that type of land ( 6 NM land cycle, 8-12 shocklands and the rest on basics)
Nope. And to further build, I've been talking with my sources.
My source says it's better described as "conditional Time Walk" but it could be interpreted both ways.
There is a 1cmc Journey to Nowhere with a drawback for sure.
Their response was: "Maro answered the question 'Is the card-that-would-have-been-in-MM a black card?' as 'Maybe'."
They don't think Nylea looks like a snake.
And finally, my source says that it's more Horizon-Canopy-esque lands than Nimbus-Maze-esqe.
Not the exact Horizon Canopy and friends. They think Wizard said its going to be brand new lands instead of reprints
This post should be added to the OP to point out the confusion on the dual land cycle.

Being able to take Burning-Tree Emissary on the draw is very, very good.
Quote from Planeswalker"s Guide to Theros: Part 2 »
Medomai, the wandering oracle. The wise and ancient sphinx Medomai is not a consistent resident of Meletis. Instead, he appears a few times a year during moments of historical import, such as religious ceremonies, coronations, and the onset of wars. Medomai has been part of Meletis's history for many decades, seeming to possess cryptic knowledge of future events. His arrival is not necessarily seen as a good omen, as his predictions can be dire.
It's hard to determine just one specific thing that would make sense flavor-wise on his Time Walk ability. As he comes and goes, I think he may have "at the beginning of your end step, if Medomai dealt combat damage to a player this turn, you may exile it. If you do, take an extra turn after this one."
The last sentence suggests that a harsh drawback might be attached to taking an extra turn. I think that the library-exile suggestion might fit the bill there.
And finally, my source says that it's more Horizon-Canopy-esque lands than Nimbus-Maze-esqe.

I guess the Horizon-esque lands will be without the pay 1 life and some other draw-back, since Wizards has said over and over that casual players don't like pain land abilities.

It might be too complicated given modern design sensibilities, but it would be cool if each one had a different drawback that is linked to the color pair.

Why? This isn't a core set. No reason we can't have painlands in an expert level set.
"He plays in a walk in humidor so keep his foils from bending. He once kept an all land hand just to know what it felt like to be mana flooded. He uses power nine for ante. He is the most interesting magic playing in the world." Old man, "I don't always tap basic lands for mana, but when i do, I tap Gurus."
What if the omen is that your opponents next turn will hit you worse?

I fear I won't have much time to play Magic these days.
I get to watch worlds develop around me.
I get to watch great leaders, terrible oppressors, and trend setters rise and fall.

I look forward to the stories I will hear.
And more so to the ones I will watch unfold first hand.

actually that's specifically the other reason we can't have the painlands, because they're named after specific places.... on Dominaria IIRC?
and Wizards thinks new players are afraid of paying life.
We're not talking aboit pain lands. Were talking about new lands similar to Horizon Canopy in some way. So they could be printed in Theros.
As Corazu implied, this is an expert level set, not a core set. The paying life for mana statements have only ever been said with regarda to core sets. There is no reason why these duals could not be some type of pain land.
