Destroy all nonbasic lands. For each land destroyed this way, its controller may search his or her library for a basic land card and put it onto the battlefield. Then each player who searched his or her library this way shuffles it.

Order of Succession seems quite interesting. Unlike Switcharoo/Legerdemain/Juxtapose, you don't need a creature of your own to cast it. However, in a 4-player game, you'll never be able to get the creatures of the guy two seats away. It also bypasses shroud/hexproof/protection. I rather like it for low creature count decks.
Shattergang seems a touch too expensive to activate to be truly devastating, though it does seem like he could do some good work.
From the Ashes is a less harsh Ruination that just wrecks Dr. Moneybags no-basics.

I wasnt aware thats how that works. So long as it say chooses it ignores the rules based around "target"?
Correct. Only spells/abilities that use the word "target" (and Auras when cast) target things. Choosing an object is an action that takes place as part of resolution, and does not target.

screws over 5 color decks pretty hard (assuming there running a decent mana base) and a lot of problem lands. Too bad it doesnt combo with Valakut, the molten pinnacle lol...unless you make it indestructible. yup im making that a deck
So, a Jund Goblin General? Finally I don't have to choose between the Worts anymore for Goblin Tribal fun. It's effects are surprisingly cool too, I'm sure a lot of mileage can be gained from it, though it's not the fastest card around. It'll see play, for sure, just not sure how much.

My Commander decks:
Chandra, Torch of Defiance - Oops! All Chandras.
Prime Speaker Zegana - Draw for Power.
Pir & Toothy - Counterpalooza.
Arcades, the Strategist - Another Brick in the Wall.
Zacama, Primal Calamity - Calamity of Double Mana.
Edgar Markov - Vampires Don't Die.
Child of Alara - Dreamcrusher.
As long as it doesn't explicitly say "target" it doesn't target.
That said it's worth keeping up with the Oracle wording for older cards, as templating was far less strict back in the day.
Edit: Nath'd.
This is exactly where I got confused, Ive seen both situations on older cards eratta'd. I had just assumed anything that made you select something was targeted; I appreciate the info.
Order of Succession means the last guy to choose will be able to steal your best guy. It should have been the caster who can choose last. Now it is really bad.
If you don't have creatures, you also will end up without any (as what you steal automatically gets stolen from you).
Not a fan.
Also not a fan of the goblin legend. I do like how it is 3 goblins and each activation requires 2X and that it is 3/3. But it should also have costed 3 to make it really Vorthos.
As abilities go, it seems pretty strong, it is mana intensive. But I guess the deck will have lots of eldrazi spawn token makers or something.
From the Ashes is plain bad. Blood Moon and even Ruination seem superior.

I thought this originally too, however everyone chooses and trades at the same time, you choose in that order and then all trades happen, not one at a time.
Red/White/Black already has a very limited and boring selection of generals..
Kaalia of the Vast was kind of a big deal two years ago, it's probably best to give the wedges some cooldown time before they get their second run in the spotlight.
Basically, if you want to open packs to get cards for Standard and Modern, the simpler approach is to just buy all the singles you need and then set some money on fire to make up the difference.

I don't think it's supposed to be as much of a punisher card. It's a half way decent ritual for you since the basics come in untapped and there are loads of ways to benefit from a ton of lands coming into play.

That is correct. I would play a deck with 4-6 basics and the rest non-basic. If you come across a full non-basic opponent it pretty much guarantees a win with the correct deck set up.
from the ashes is an intersting effect that I'd like to see more aggresively costed in a standard legal set.
Costing it at 1R, and making the new basics come in tapped, would be quite the boon for modern, IMO. Insane manabases with minimal to no basics get hurt, but people playing a sufficient number of basics are essentially immune to the card.
Except that commander cards are not legal in modern anyway.
Right, but I was talking about the general effect, not just the specific card. It's easily on a powerlevel that could be reprinted in standard, even with the pushed cost of 1R.

I always feel guilty when playing Ruination, so this is the perfect solution

Literally the legend I was wishing existed the other day while finding a creature to make an artifact and creature abuse deck.
Nope. This year they're only doing decks for the Alara shards
Not this go around. Shard is in and wedge is out. You'll need to wait for the next wedge block/commander set/possibly planechase.

It combos nicely with Aven Mindcensor, Stranglehold. Good with companion Faith's Reward too. Best ramp card Boros ever had, wootz.

I don't always post about Rafiq of the Many, but when I do, I cardlink to the original artwork, and not the supplementary product version.

"Just fight without fear. Your soul is protected by the hand of Avacyn and will never submit to evil."
