Like, I was honestly excited for the mono-Red cards from this set because Red needs EDH love, and all of them are pretty bad, but From the Ashes is just wretched. If I want to waste a card to blow up lands, I want to waste a card to blow up lands. None of this namby pamby "you get to keep your basics because I'm nice. ^_^" nonsense. They play nonbasics, I blow up their nonbasics, no second chances, that's how it goes Wizards.
Even as a ritual, it's garbage; just get a real mana doubler if you're so concerned with big mana.

The wedding is over. Now it's time for the honeymoon.

Some of us like the "you get to keep your basics" type of land destruction. I get no pleasure in straight up denying lands to my opponent, nor do I have any fun having lands denied to me. Yet busted special lands need to be dealt with. Not to mention that I've seen plenty of decks that, if this is played a decent way through the game, won't be able to actually pull that many basics out of the deck (think of any 3-5 color deck with lots of fixers and/or a not mono green deck that used Boundless Realms).
It destroys all of everyone's utility lands, can deny lands against most decks if you use it at certain times and can be used as special land destruction by people who realize it's a casual, just for fun format and hate land denial. Seems good to me.
PS: Ghost Quarter is a fine card and it's the same compared to something like Strip Mine as this is compared to something like Armageddon.
