Not strictly better. Loss of life is worse than damage (damage can be prevented). Probably mostly better though as opponents can't tap it to damage you.
Never had your city of brass ported I guess?
I've had my City of Brasses Manipulated by Ice, but that doesn't make this strictly better.
I was about to freak out about how mana convergence was the most broken land I have ever seen. Then I saw the posts about city of brass.
I need sleep but aside from that JOU seems to be shaping up to make me regret quitting standard but oh well at least I'll have new toys for cube that don't cost 30 bucks apiece.
If the store owner says that I can't trade in the premises, I'll just go outside. If he says that I can't trade within 10m of his premises, I'll go to 11 meters. If he says that he doesn't want to see me trading, I will put a basket over his head and continue trading.
Yes, he's a local legend. He's only known to take his clothes off before he goes into the Ladies' Lockerroom. Nobody knows what he does in there because he's invisible, but it's almost certainly tons of masturbating.
Re: the Siren, since it gives the enchanted creature +1/+1 and flying, costing it the same as Mind Control was certainly not in the cards.
I think it could have been 6, though.
Unfortunately, it's not very impressive as a creature, and so it basically feels like another card like Gaea's Embrace. It's still very flavorful, and it's clear that I was right in that the Bestow creatures in JOU 'play well' on opponents' creatures.
Is the new City of Brass really going to be as big of deal as y'all are saying? I'm sure it'll see play, but back in the day City was a land you didn't want to play but did so if your deck absolutely needed it.

The mana for 2/3 color aggro decks is pretty terrible right now in Standard. This helps that a lot, which should help against Mono black and blue.
I'm excited to see more of Journey into Nyx and am ready to welcome back an old favorite (and very impactful card) in my preview for this column next week!

Any deck running nightviel spectre until rotation will love that land. Post rotation that bestow could slide right in the one drop spot of monoblue for the early devo and could provide quite the blowout late game.

I don't know about in other formats, but in standard this might make current shaky 3-color decks downright brutal. Heck Mono-black might be able to reliably splash another color and that right there is scary. Never underestimate a land that CitP untapped and produces mana of ANY color.
Edit: Also is Dictate of Karametra worded wrong? Shouldn't the end be "of any type that land could produce"?
This is better than city of brass, not by alot, but enough. Not just Because rishadan port won't hurt, but chromatic lantern, prismatic omen, urborg, and blood moon (all at least semi-releavant cards) give you the option to tap your land without hurting yourself, which is a little more relevant than bolting for the win when your at 1 and your opponents at 3 ( like you could with city of brass). Also Can't wait to try and use the new heartbeat of spring
Oh my goodness this art is just bonkers. I really do love magic mostly for the art. Just look at that land... Plus it's just bananas great! Also, launch the fleet seems delicious.

I'm in the strictly better camp for a number of reasons:
1) How often are you preventing damage that it's even relevant for City of Brass?
2) With a card like Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth or other cards that allow you to add other mana from your lands, this is strictly better than CoB since you won't take damage.
3) Anything that can tap, such as Rishadan Port, doesn't sting with this.
4) This is going to sound fringe, but I'm going to say it. Since paying life is a cost of the ability, your opponent can't interact. City of Brass tapping for mana causes the triggered ability to go on the stack, which means priority has to pass before you cast anything. That may sound stupid, but it does actually give your opponent information since you're announcing the color you're adding and giving them a chance to do something preemptively. If they had something like Silence or Orim's Chant and based on the color you added they knew what you were going to cast, they could cast their spell and prevent you from playing yours if it's sorcery speed.

If they reprint LoA I'll take back every bad thing I've said so far about this set, that card would be really fun to try and make work in standard. Also having a modern frame would be great.

If you're in the strictly better camp you need to open up a dictionary and look up the word strictly.
So... Gemstone Mine will be practically worthless once this gets printed? Fine by me, I'm building Legacy Dredge, and this is certainly a welcome addition. Also, I'm slightly pissed that Athreos wasn't spoiled this week, but it MUST be because he's insanely good, right? RIGHT?
For what it's worth, the opposite of evergreen is "deciduous" so I suggest we start using that from now on to refer to shroud, banding, islandhome, etc.
mana confluence is beautiful and awesome. a much needed update to city of brass.
dictate of karametra is going to create some very scary end steps. suppose they play rakdos's return the next turn and empty your hand only to drop some ridiculously huge creature the next turn.
the siren is gonna go directly into my edric EDH deck.
also that fleet maker is interesting too. very good in the right circumstances.

Edric loves another 1/1 Flyer too
This set is starting to look sweet
If that's really it, I'm disappointed.
Mana Confluence is interesting. Not my cup of tea since I'm usually mono blue anyway but people will enjoy it.

Strictly better. You only lose life if you decided to tap it for mana.
