Shadowmoor/Alara didn't violate that because they don't consider Hybrid multicolor
(which is definitely debatable, but I see their point).
To cite an excellent article: "By the letter of the law, both hybrid and gold cards are considered “multicolor” cards, but the two have opposing impacts on your environment. In the abstract, hybrids are more castable than mono-color cards, and gold cards are less castable."
Hybrid cards can be and are played in more monocolored decks than monocolored cards. You need only look at Nightveil Specter and it's inclusion in both mono blue and mono black decks to see the truth of this. Hybrid mana facilitates monocolored decks better than monocolored mana!
This is why Hybrid is quite possibly my favorite Mechanic
Perhaps the "long absent" cards are the Filterlands, and this is another Hybrid set?
I'd be totally cool with that.

Snow is actually pretty rare in Mongolia, though, not because of temperatures (it is bitterly cold in winter) but because winters are typically extremely dry, with nearly all of the precipitation falling as rain in the summer months. You might get one big blizzard every few years.
Why is everyone saying the art looks snowy? I don't see any snow. Am I as mad as Mr sarkhan?
Yea I see no snow either. Just shady background that implies snow when it actually doesn't. Wouldn't be surprised if there was snow but I don't see any.

Keldon Marauders is a good example of that it doesn't have to be orcs - to me they look like gorillas, like the Keldon people, who for some reason use the human subtype
The Keldons where humans. Basically, one of the more advanced students from Urza's Academy on Tolaria defected and set up shop in Keldon to pursue his own version of Urza's Bloodlines project (the latter of which came to fruition with Gerrard Capashen). This changed the Keldons to become larger and more aggressive, as well as turning their skin grey/blue.
There is absolutely zero chance that Keldons would show up on another plane, unless it was a single Keldon who happens to be a 'walker.

More speculation about this set:
- My guess at the plot is that Sarkhan is both the protagonist and a villain. Now that he's traveled around and connected himself to dragons of other worlds, he will bring dragons back to Tarkir in some way in order to take revenge on the ones who killed them off in the first place. Both of Sarkhan's previous iterations created dragon tokens, so I would be shocked if his Tarkir version didn't reference dragons in some way.
- Every block since Alara has had two returning planeswalkers, and due to the emphasis on dragons, plus the fact that Sarkhan has been working for Nicol Bolas, I believe that this block will feature a new Bolas planeswalker card as well. Multicolor may not be a theme of the block as a whole, but now that every color pair has a planeswalker, I'd expect a more aggressive push to make tri-color planeswalkers.
- Alternatively, Sarkhan might be breaking his service to Nicol Bolas. Sarkhan was mentioned in supplemental material to resent Bolas's more scheming nature, and what better army to recruit to help you overthrow a dragon planeswalker than the people who wiped out the entire species?
- One possible explanation for the coloration of the expansion symbol is that KTK is being printed in the new frames. All cards will now spell out their rarity explicitly, which gives Wizards more leeway to play with the look of expansion symbols on the cards.
- Maro has frequently talked about wanting to give bushido a more generic name if it ever came back, but he has also mentioned that a fixed version of flanking could possibly return. I'm betting one of the two will be a major set mechanic in KTK.
- Perhaps the element that is returning "after a long absence" is related to Maro's comment that the set of evergreen mechanics will be changing in the near future.

To me it looks like intentional fog of war. Either created by human fires or that dragon.

Would Dark Confidant still be good if he punched you in the face for 5 damage a turn?
[EDH] It's built to be a casual format and to a specific vision, and if you don't like the vision, there's nothing wrong with that, but it's not going to change to accommodate everyone. Big tent is not a goal.
If mongolian is a theme in this deck, I am thinking a bit of horsemanship, first strike is big, and reach is common due to the mongols being famous archers and horseriders. As for lands, I will speculate on flip lands. Lands that transform like warewolves. They are basic lands on the front, dual lands of some sort on the back.

RIP Batman guy. I hope somebody picks up the slack now that you are gone. Sick children need their Batman.
I know Dwarfs aren't a creature type that people have been asking for forever. So I could see that being the new thing, "That people wanted for a long time, that we've done before." Considering there's only a handful of dwarf cards (38) and the last time we saw any was in Eventide.
Something they could do with the block structure would be to have Dragons, Khans, Khans drafts when the second set releases and then transition to Dragons, Warlords, Warlords when the third set it releases, instead of just going three packs of the third large set when it releases.
Why is Horsemanship not everyone's first guess? Seriously, let the fetchland thing go. WotC will reprint them all in good time. If banding want such a confusing mechanic it would also be a good guess. Horsemanship and banding would go great with the overall nomad theme (not the dragon theme).

Life is a beautiful engineer, yet a brutal scientist.

This still leaves the possibility that something influenced the humans of Tarkir giving them physical traits similiar to the Keldons.
Extremely unlikely considering that the three people who knew the bloodlines project are all dead, the defector got killed, Barrin blew himself up (and took a fair bit of Tolaria with him), and Urza... Well, we all know what happened there.
The grey skinned humanoids of Tarkir are not humans, they do however look a lot like Orcs.

This seems like the mythic symbol. Maybe they picked it over the common symbol because it pops out better or something.
And that brutish guy in the middle, looks like a Galkan from Final Fantasy XI.
All in all, waiting for the art of this set... looking to be promising as with Theros and Innistrad.

It isn't like MTG doesn't have a history of "borrowing" ideas from popular culture.
